Who is Christine O'Donnell?
Christine O'Donnell
I guess we'll be hearing a lot about Christine O'Donnell (R-DE) now that she has beaten Congressman Mike Castle for the right to run for USA Senator. Most of what we'll hear will come from the mainstream media, who are already dismissing her as an extreme religious nut who has made misstatements and has financial problems. No doubt Keith Olbermann and his friends like Michael Musto will make lots of "manly" jokes about some comments she made about masturbation in a panel discussion a few years back. Anyway, to cut to the chase, here is her Wikipedia entry.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_O'Donnell
OK. So she is a born-again Christian who said that masturbation was a form of adultery. She believes in sexual purity. She is not a millionaire. That's a big one. How is she fit to join the millionaires club that is the US Congress? Let's see, what else? Oh, she is in a squabble with the IRS over $11,000.
Left out of Wikipedia's account is this 1998 exchange O'Donnell had with Bill Maher on "Politically Incorrect" (the most mis-named show in the history of mankind) on the topic of lying.
(Eddie) IZZARD: What if someone comes to you in the middle of the Second World War and says, 'do you have any Jewish people in your house?' and you do have them. That would be a lie. That would be disrespectful to Hitler.
O'DONNELL: I believe if I were in that situation, God would provide a way to do the right thing righteously. I believe that!
MAHER: God is not there. Hitler's there and you're there.
O'DONNELL: You never have to practice deception. God always provides a way out.
Great answer? Obviously not.
So there you are. Got anything else? Get ready because the national media is going to ride the above items like a surfer in Hawaii. Some in the Republican Old Boys Club in Washington will also pile on. The people in Delaware are going to take note of that.
Let's also take note of the guy she beat, Republican insider and former Governor of Delaware, Mike Castle, called by some the least conservative Republican in Congress. He is acting like a sore loser, making negative statements about O'Donnell even after the race was over, refusing to call and congratulate her and refusing to support her candidacy.
He's a jerk.
Let's take a look at Mike's official congressional website to see what he has to say about the primary election he just lost.

Did you find anything? How about the link to current news?
Not a word.
Here is a guy who has voted with the Democrats on cap and trade as well as the Police and Firefighters Monopoly bill. If that is the cost of having a Republican majority in the Senate, no thank you.
Keep laughing about that Tea Party movement, all you liberals. They just decided in Delaware that they were tired of the good old boy Republicans and wanted a fresher face who believes in the Constitution as well as open and limited government. They want reform-and that includes within the Republican Party.
But there may a consolation prize in store for Castle. He is now a contender for the 2010 Fousesquawk Jerk of the Year Golden Penguin award.

I can understand you not liking Maher's show, but there was nothing "politically correct" about it or him. He goes out of his way to offend people - the exact opposite of political correctness.
I will refrain from making up my mind about O'Donnell until I know more than the left-wing talking points.
Now that O'Donnell has made it to the ballot, she will have to be careful to choose her media outlets. If I was her, avoiding the liberal MSM would be a good idea. She will not be able to change their bias. Stick with Fox, as they are fair and have much better ratings. O'Donnell is in the heat of the spot-light and will have to take the high temperature. I do not like the Alinsky tactic of isolating, polerizing and demonizing by the extreme left, but it has started and will continue. Hopefull the real womens' rights groups will stand by her and not sell her out, as they did Sarah Palin. As far as Maher, stay away. Maher says G-d is dead, but G-d will say, Maher is dead, sooner or later.

She's a dope. Plain and simple. If the only meager defense you can muster up for her is that she's not Mike Castle then that is pretty bad.
This is exactly the kind of candidate that won't have wider appeal outside of the hardcore conservative Republican base, as I mentioned previously.
The Democratic candidate (no idea who that is) must be very happy though.
Squid,
Don't expect feminist groups to come to her defense even when the jokes are sexual. They don't even come to the defense of the poor woman facing stoning in Iran.
Their agenda is liberalism and democratic politics that's all.
Anonymous,
Excuse me, but I posted just about all the negative stuff that is going on about her.
Christine O'Donnell is the woman who just handed the Delaware Senate seat back to the Democrats. Good job lady!
(I would have preferred a decent Republican frankly. I just know there are intelligent, capable, patriotic, courageous, dedicated, humane Republicans out there with a lot to offer the country. Unfortunately, they are not running for office.)
Again,
The tea party vote is not about putting a Rep majority in the House or Senate. It's about putting people in office who will stop this insanity in Wash.
It's about putting people in office who will stop this insanity in Wash.
And creating some brand new insanity, apparently.
Lance,
Can't be any worse then this.
I am all for throwing the bums out of Washington, humbling both the Democratic and Republican leadership, and getting some people into office who will put the needs of the country first, get to work, and fix real problems. I am all for following the Constitution as it was meant to be followed.
Unfortunately, the clique who have emerged as the effective leadership of the Tempest in a Tea Party are none of the above. They are a self-serving bunch of juveniles who couldn't think their way out of a paper bag, and think governance is a synonym for "gimme what I want, gimme now, and don't talk to me about how much it costs or who pays for it." Good riddance - now, can we get to work on some real alternatives?
Like I said before, I want people who are politically libertarian, economically socialist, culturally conservative, and honest about the principles that there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
"Like I said before, I want people who are politically libertarian, economically socialist, culturally conservative, and honest about the principles that there ain't no such thing as a free lunch."
No such man exists. If he did, he would probably have eight arms, five legs, two heads and his feet attached to his hips.
Siarlys, your point of view is too nuanced. Don't you know that Gary's allergic to nuance?
Way too nuanced.
That's why Gary can't put together a political platform that can work in the real world. To borrow a rather petty turn of phrase, the DEA never had to sell its product in a free market to obtain the revenue to support its programs.
