Yesterday, during a campaign speech in Nevada before a largely Hispanic audience, the hapless Harry Reid had this to say to his audience.
There are a lot of things Harry doesn't know. To Harry, why would a person of Hispanic heritage vote Republican when ALL Hispanics vote Democrat?
Why would a person of Hispanic heritage vote Republican when the Democrats will treat them as disadvantaged children in need of a helping hand?
Why would a person of Hispanic heritage vote Republican when the Democrats will treat them as a special and distinct group of people that can't make it on their own?
Why would a person of Hispanic heritage vote Republican when Democrats are telling them they don't have to work (in spite of a culture that emphasizes hard work). The government will take care of them.
Why would a person of Hispanic heritage vote Republican when Democrats would allow anyone and everyone from Mexico to come across the border illegally- when their own forefathers followed the rules and immigrated legally (as my father-in-law and his family did.)
Why would a person of Hispanic heritage vote Republican when Democrats are protecting illegal alien gang members from deportation-so they can continue to prey on the Hispanic community?
Why would a person of Hispanic heritage vote Republican when that party will treat them the same as anyone else?
Why would a person of Hispanic heritage vote Republican when Democrats take them for granted?
Why would a person of Hispanic heritage vote Republican when they can stay on the Democrat reservation?
There are so many things that Harry doesn't understand.
Somebody help Harry.

The Left is a Party of Constituencies! They pay off the trial lawyers, the unions, the blacks, the women, the teachers, government workers, etc. in exchange for votes. They always try to appeal to some group by telling them what they are going to do for them.
By contrast, the Right looks at what is good for America. That happens to be capitalism, freedom, smaller government, stronger military, lower taxes, higher morality.
While the Democrats are paying off one congressman after another to pass the healthcare bill in the dead of night the Republicans are saying this is not right for America. It will bankrupt the country. We should increase competition across state lines, enact tort reform, set up high risk pools, etc. We should fix what has to be fixed but not change the whole system.
That is why Reid simply can't understand why a Hispanic would vote against his (supposed) self interest. It never occurred to him that the Hispanic might be motivated by anything higher. Maybe he doesn't want a tax break or amnesty. Maybe he wants to start his own business or work for a living.
One of the most telling indicators about Left /Right politics is the high incidence of Democratic single women changing their party affiliation to Republican once they get married. The interpretation goes that when they are single they need the government to provide things for them and so they vote Democratic. When they get married and start a family and take on responsibilities they switch and become Republicans. A large constituency for the Democrats are the single women. A large constituency for the Republicans are the married women.
The Left has to always catch one constituency up with another... the Right doesn't have that problem.
Facts are stubborn things.
