Hey! You know that 26 billion bucks that the federal government is gonna give to the states for teachers' salaries and retirements so's the states don't hafta lay off teachers and the teachers unions will be happy and keep supporting the Democratic Party?
"Uhhhh.....yeaaaah."
Well, there's strings attached, surprise surprise.
Ya see, one condition is that each state that accepts one dime of that money has to commit not to cut one nickel in education spending next year.
In addition, there's one state that's not getting any of that money. I'll give you a hint:
"Miss me yet?"
That's right, it's bad old Texas. Land of George W Bush and no state income taxes. A state that generally tries to use its money wisely. Why is that, you ask. Well, I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that the governor is Obama critic Governor Rick Perry. You know, he's the guy that met Obama when he landed in Texas this week and tried to hand him a letter as he descended from the plane; a letter that pleaded with Obama to help with the border situation, a letter that Obama directed him to hand to his horseholder, Valerie Jarrett, which she probably threw away as soon as she found the nearest trash receptacle.
No, it had everything to do with the fact that those crazy Texans didn't spend ALL of their stimulus money; rather they set some aside for a rainy day.
How irresponsible. So now, Texas doesn't get any of that 26 billion.
So the moral of the story is...beware of the government bearing gifts.
