Update on Voter Intimidation Case

Here is an interview by Fox News' Megyn Kelly of civil rights activist Bartle Bull, who was a witness to the efforts by New Black Panther Party members to engage in voter intimidation in Philadelphia-the case dropped by Eric Holder's Justice Department.

Excellent post, Gary. I'd missed it as I was out the day she did that interview. Thanks for posting it.

This guy Bartle Bull sounds phony as a $3 bill. He vaguely refers to voter intimidation, but doesn't describe one act of intimidation. The DOJ has a simple reason for dropping the matter -- its just not a federal case.

If it's not a federal case, then it's not a case. Ever heard of the Voting Rights Act?

Precisely Gary, there is not one word of testimony that one voter was turned away, or that this thug attempted to turn one voter away. The only testimony from Bartle Bull is that the man made rude, incongruous, remarks about "being ruled by a black man, cracker." That might even be a misdemeanor of some sort, considering he had a club, but its not voter intimidation. It sounds to me like he was jeering at white voters about the probability that the next president would be black -- not exactly in the spirit of Obama for America, but some black people did have that kind of attitude. Others had the attitude "Keep cool, be nice to the white folks, we want Barack to win." The latter is undoubtedly more effective, if a bit patronizing.

More to the point, Bull greatly exaggerates, if not makes up, his credentials as a civil rights lawyer, and Fox blithely takes his word for it. Remember the guy running for the senate from Connecticut who "forgot" exactly where he was stationed by the military?
