LeBron James and "The Moment We Were All Waiting For"

Well, at least if you are an NBA fan. Yesteday evening after my class, I stopped in at one of the local Baskins-Robbins for a milkshake....

(Heh heh) Well, anyway, there was this big TV on the wall just above the malt machine, and it was turned on to ESPN. The topic was LeBron James and that he was going to make his big announcement that evening about which team he was going to sign with. Of course, ESPN was making a major production out of it with a one-hour TV special, in which LeBron would cap the show with his big decision.

Exciting stuff. Who will he choose?

One would think ESPN would want the suspense to last till the actual announcement, you know like The Bachelor, where Jack finally gives the ring to Jill, but suddenly their news ticker at the bottom of the screen started announcing that "according to inside sources, all signs point to James signing with the Heat..."

Some suspense. That was like Jack telling Jill on the opening segment, "You're the one!"

And sure enough, James picked the Miami Heat. I guess some other news organization got the word early, so ESPN had to start looking like they knew something too.

How about that reaction from the owner of the Cleveland Cavs? He all but took out a fatwa on James. Then he made the stupidest statement since Keith Olbermann's previous show when he "guaranteed" fans that the Cavs would win a world title before James did with his new team.

"You can take it to the bank."

Yeah, right. The James-less Cavs will win the title before the Heat with James, Duwayne Wade and Chris Bosh? Maybe he meant to say the Cubs.

But there is good news with this announcement. There will be no riot next year at the Staples Center in LA. You can take that to the bank.

Who really cares? It would be very funny if the Heat comes in last place.
