Charles Bolden of NASA Outlines Obama's Space Program

The below article from Fox News regards an al-Jazeera interview with NASA Director Charles Bolden, who explains that the chief objective of President Obama in the area of space exploration is to "better relations with the Muslim world".

I'm not making this up. Read the story:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/05/nasa-chief-frontier-better-relations-muslims/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+foxnews%2Flatest+%28Text+-+Latest+Headlines%29

With all due respect, maybe Mr Bolden (or Obama) should get his priorities straight here. This is not only patronizing but downright silly. What (modern) contributions in the field of space exploration is he talking about? I realize that Egypt (where Bolden was speaking) has a long history of civilization and learning, much like Greece. Much like Greece, however, I ask what has come out of there lately of a positive note?

Next he'll be talking about the Austrian influence on Japanese literature.

When talking on Roman TV, say something a Roman audience will be interested in hearing. When approached by Fox TV, guard the flocks and herds before something is snatched.

I don't think that you understood what the man was saying. He wants to get the Muslim world in on space exploration and to embrace their history in the sciences - a history that, as you pointed out, they have long since turned their back on.

Trying to get the Muslim world to embrace learning and science? What's wrong with that? It's the perfect antidote to religious extremism!

I think that you're just looking for nits to pick.

This is about as bizarre as some of the ridiculous things Obama said in his Cairo speech. Does he think that his audience is only those that are sitting in front of him?

Perhaps. But do they embrace scientific advancement? No. Religious fundamentalism is opposed to that sort of a thing by its very nature.

Perhaps it's naive wishful thinking on the part of Bolden, but I think that he's pointed in the right direction.

Lance,

Look up in the sky. That's the direction Bolden is supposed to be headed. Leave the foreign relations to the Sec of State.....

Strike that.

Siarlys,

Could be.
