On Sunday, Noam Chomsky, professor of linguistics emeritus at M.I.T. University and all-around idiot, was denied entry into Israel at the border with Jordan.
I don't know if you have read Chomsky. When I was studying linguistics, I was assigned to read his works on linguistics and universal grammar. He well be the preeminent linguist in America. But when it comes to his view of the world, I consider him an idiot.
As much as I disagree with Noam Chomsky when it comes to the Middle East, I think Israel screwed up on this one.
Israel will get a bunch of bad press and this may end up getting more people to listen Chomsky's nutty ideas and some delustional people might accept his ideas as being correct.
I disagree. I think any country has the sovreign right to deny entry to whomever they wish. Israel is a nation with its very existence on the line. If they want to deny entry to one who opposes their very right to exist, I say good for them.
Gary, I am with you. Chomsky's defense of terrorist regimes and his evident support for Marxism suggest he is not so brilliant. Further, his theories about language have been questioned and possible disproved. There is some evidence which shows language might be culturally generated. If so this disproves the very theory of language acquisition Chomsky is so well known for.

You can disagree with Chomsky all you want, but calling him an idiot says a lot more about you than it does about him.
Israel has good taste.
Lance,
Your indignation fills me with overwhelming shame.
It's hardly indignation. I just know that the man is no idiot.

And again, this tells me more about you than him.
Lance,
And once again, your indignation fills me with overwhelming shame.
Shall we go around again?

I saw him described somewhere as a self described anarchist. What can you say about that?
I never cared much about Chomsky but you got to admit he was right on when he claimed Obama was lying... see:
