Are the Rats Leaving the Global Warming Ship?

(Original cartoon by Mike Lukovich-Atlanta Journal & Constitution-Ship "re-christening" by Fousesquawk)

The good ship Global Warming has been taking on a lot of water lately. I won't recap all the good stuff I have already written about, but this week, a couple of new developments have hit the news. First, Phil Jones, the disgraced ex-chief of the Climate Research Unit of East Anglia University, has made some damaging admissions, and Yves De Boer of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has announced his resignation.

Jones, has now admitted that there hasn't been any increase in temperatures for the past 15 years-even though the panic about Global Warming has been reaching its crescendo during this time frame. He also conceded that the debate about Global Warming is not settled, contradicting some guy named Al....what was his name?

Which Al?

Jones also acknowledged that since 1850, there have been similar warming periods-prior to recent increases in man-made greenhouse gases. And for good measure, Mr Jones even admitted that it is possible the world was warmer in medieval times than it is now.

In addition, there are accusations that the government climate advisory unit of New Zealand has manipulated raw data to show non-existent warming.

Meanwhile, Yves DeBoer, who is head of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and a prime organizer of the Catastrophe in Copenhagen has thrown in the towel.

"Cheer up, Yves. You're in Copenhagen!!!"

The Dutch bureaucrat will do what all failed bureaucrats do; he will become a consultant for a climate change outfit and also work in academia.

How gratifying to see all this unraveling before our very eyes.

Actually, he didn't. Have you read the actual interview, or are you getting this from some right-wing source?

I suggest that you check out the actual interview. You can find it here.

I'll admit that I don't completely understand everything that he's talking about, but I understand enough to know that it's not accurate to say that he's claiming that there was no increase in temperature.

I'll also admit that I don't think that he comes off very well with some of his answers.

Kirsti,

Jones still believes in Global Warming as he says in the interview. This is not a confession rather it constitutes damaging admissions.

No, I didn't get it from a right-wing source. I got it from the Orange County Register-a libertarian newspaper.

The point is still the same. You state that Jones said that there "hasn't been any increase in temperatures..." That's factually incorrect, and it leads me to believe that wherever you got your information from wasn't being entirely honest.

Oh, and Kirsti's my wife...I forgot to sign out of her account. In other words, the above comment was me.

It come from the OC Register editorial.

Whew, I thought for a minute you had an ally.

62 bottles of beer on the wall.....

Lance Christian Johnson said...

But that's not what he said! You're counting bottles of beer, but all you've got are bottles of Diet Coke.

Can you name any actual climatologists who have changed their minds as a result of all this?

Gary Fouse said...

What's a climatologist? Is that the guy who gives the weather on the 11 o'clock news? Oh no, that's a meteorologist.

Listen, I don't know the names of all the "climatologists" who have changed their mind. I also don't know the names of those who haven't changed their mind.

Do you?

I do know one thing, though. I know a fraud when I see one.

Gary, you're the one who's doing your little "99 bottles of beer" shtick, yet you have failed to show how any of these things are actually changing the scientific consensus. I'd imagine that if a significant number of climatologists (do you understand the difference between climate and weather?) have indeed switched over, that would be a pretty easy thing to prove.

And the bottom line is this: I've pointed out a very clear and obvious distortion of the truth on this particular blog post. The fact that you refuse to acknowledge this shows that you're just as bad as the people at the IPCC whom you criticize.

I tell ya, if anything pushes me over the edge to becoming an Al Gore apologist, it'll be arguments like this.

Gary Fouse said...

Lance,

I got news for ya. It's over. It's almost to the point where it's like Hitler in the bunker moving those non-existant armies all over.

Just wait and see.

PS:

That gives me a great idea for a post.

Lance Christian Johnson said...

Wow...you have COMPLETELY dodged my point.

"The fact that you refuse to acknowledge this shows that you're just as bad as the people at the IPCC whom you criticize."

Not quite, Lance. I have not falsified anything. I am not trying to impose draconian measures on the world based on slipshod science.

And what exactly are your scientific credentials again?

Gary Fouse said...

My "scientific credential" have nothing to do with it. You need to ask Phil Jones what his credentials are.
