Reid: Opponents of Health Care Plan Would Have Defended Slavery
Senate Majority Leader has now gone over the deep end-again. Monday he accused Republicans and government health care opponents as being akin to those who defended slavery, opposed women's rights and the Civil Rights bill.
Reid, of course doesn't know his history. Isn't he aware that President Lyndon Johnson would never have passed civil rights legislation without the support of Republicans? The Democrats-especially the southern legislators opposed him vehemently. It was the Republicans who helped Johnson get the legislation passed. Furthermore, Strom Thurmond, then a Democrat, launched a filibuster against the 1957 legislation. (He became a Republican years later.)
Harry Reid has become a caricature of himself- the Rush Limbaugh "Dingy Harry" in person. His intellect is obviously limited. He makes outrageous accusations that paint his opponents as genuinely evil people.
The man is a joke.
If polls are any indicator, Reid will be voted out of office in 2010. He and Nancy Pelosi are poster children for the outrage that has erupted in America over the heavy-handed on-going government take-over of every aspect of our lives.
I suppose if and when he is voted out of office, Reid will whine that he was the victim of "racists" and other right-wing evil-doers. Then it will be interesting to see if this aparichnik will simply return to life in Searchlight, Nevada or remain in Washington as a powerful deal-maker with his lobbyist sons.
Put your money on the latter.
