Nobel Prize??!?

News item:

Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize.

In other news, the Chicago Cubs have been declared the winner of the 2009 World Series.

Cub left fielder Alfonso Soriano has been voted this year's Most Valuable Player.

The Detroit Lions have been declared the winner of the 2010 Super Bowl.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been awarded the Oscar for Best Actor.

Did I miss something? Did Obama bring the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan? Did he reach a peace deal with Osama bin Laden? Did he broker a deal between the Israelis and Palestinians? No? I didn't think so.

In all seriousness, isn't President Obama embarrassed? He has (rightly) said he doesn't deserve it. Now he should do the honorable thing and politely decline the award.

At this point, who can truly believe that this award is anything but a political statement and no more valuable than a Hollywood Golden Globe Award-which goes to the actor who gives the best goodies to the judges?

C'mon all you libs out there. Chime in and explain to me why Obama deserves this award. I want to hear all your tortured logic at work.

Nobel Peace Prize! Gimme a break!

Actually Gary, I pretty much agree with you, believe it or not.

And if you look at what liberals are saying, opinion is divided on it, probably about split down the middle. At least that's what I see on the Huffington Post.

There is hope for you, Bryan.

Prizes should not be based on what you believe, what you "represent", but on what you actually accomplish.

They gave it to him because they hate George W. Bush so much.

I actually think that it's a bit silly too.

Are you going to blame Obama for that one too? He didn't ask for it and why should he give it back? Maybe you all sitting pretty don't understand that for people to be given hope is enough, and certainly Obama has healed a lot of the wounds that were caused by the previous president. The USA is not alone in this world, other people count too, and maybe that is what was expressed by giving him that prize. He deserved it as much or as little as many others before.

Ingrid,

Hope doesn't put meat on the table.

Gary, neither does hate or killing or whatever else the rest of the world suffers. Hope gives people a reason to go on and maybe that will eventually put food on their table.
I guess you have never been hungry in your life, I have, growing up in post world war Germany, and all we had was hope, and that was a lot.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.

You are talking about another slap by the Nobel Committee in Bush's face, where have they slapped him before? I believe that Bush has slapped the American people in the face, but some of them seem to be so numb that they didn't even feel it.

Ingrid,

With all due respect, how is Obama a peacemaker? He has two wars on his hands and he has not ended either.

I guess he could just wave a magic wand and make the evil go away. I figured you to be realistic enough to know that this is not going to happen quickly. If at all.
People here can't believe all the venom that comes out of the USA, they always believed that Americans stuck together, frankly I am ashamed when I hear Rush Limbass talk about this subject.

Ingrid,

I agree with you that Obama cannot just wave a magic wand and make it all go away. But how can you give him a Nobel prize as if he had done just that?

As for Rush, it's like Lance says. Now the shoe is on the other foot. What about all the vitriol (in the USA) when Bush was president? Now people who were calling Pres. Bush every name in the book are calling Obama critics traitors and Nazis.
