Clueless Tom Harkin

Want to see what happens when a speaker who is not very smart meets an audience of people who are smarter than he is? Watch these snippets from Senator Tom Harkin's (D-IA)town hall appearance in Des Moines Saturday. Harkin is basically reduced to reading talking points off note cards as members of the audience hit him with pointed questions.

In one of his answers, Harkin doesn't seem to think that capitalism is the best way to regulate the insurance companies. He also goes on to complain about how much those evil insurance companies and their CEOs make. When it comes to illegal aliens receiving health benefits, Harkin assures the audience that will be prohibited in the bill-except, as one lady points out to the flustered senator, medical providers are not allowed to ascertain if a patient is legally in the country or not.

As usual, tempers get out of hand. One of Harkin's supporters gets in the face of a questioner and tells him, "Why don't you go home?"

Next time, Senator Harkin, you need to do your homework before you go in front of a group of people and tell them what's good for them.
