DC Tax and Revenue Office Scandal

Harriette Walters

Since we are talking scandals so much lately, here's one I bet most of you didn't even know about. Yesterday, Harriette Walters (52) a manager in the Washington DC Tax and Revenue Office was sentenced to 17 1/2 years in federal prison for masterminding an embezzlement of the DC coffers to the tune of 50 million dollars. For almost two decades, Walters had directed false tax refund checks to her co-conspirators. In March, her niece, Jayrece Turnbull, pleaded guilty to related charges.

According to the terms of the plea, Walters could have received anywhere from 15-18 years. Thus, a fierce exchange went back and forth between defense attorney and prosecutor on the proper sentence. In the end, the judge settled on 17 1/2 years.

Questions: In light of the Bernie Madoff affair and other scandals we are hearing about 24-7, how many have heard this news from the mainstream media? Or is it only the blogs and radio talk shows that are talking about it? Why?

Here's a hint.

She's a Democrat........and a contributor to the party too.

Meanwhile, in other news, in South Carolina, Governor Mark Sanford..........

This reminds of the Eliot Spitzer (D) scandal and how the "MSM" totally buried THAT one, too! Oh, wait...

It's not about whether there's a D or an R next to their name. It's about which story is more sensationalistic. This story you posted is deemed "boring" by the media. So they go with something juicy and exciting, like the Sanford scandal. It's not that hard to figure out.
