Memorial Day





Today, we pay tribute to our veterans, the men and women who have kept us free with their sacrifices. Were it not for the American military, no nation in the world would be living in freedom today.

Have a good one Gary. I spent mine at a Memorial Day Service at the Veterans Cemetery. BBQ afterwards.

Findalis, nice to see that you observed, as I did, Memorial Day more than the TOTUS did...he was too busy playing golf evidently.... laid the wreath and then had to go hit the 18... a man's got priorities, right?

God help this country. God's blessings to so many who have sacraficed so much.

Findalis a true patriot? Of which country: the USA or Israel?

Linnea, I hope you didn't attend any BBQs or anything today. Surely you sat in quiet meditation, contemplating the meaning of today, and did not partake in any sort of recreation or leisure.

Ironically, I guess we also have Soviet military veterans to thank for the world being rid of fascism.

Okay you super patriots. Why didn't you, or don't you go to a veterans hospital and comfort some of the ones who gave so much, and that on a regular basis? Or see the orphans of the fallen soldiers. BBQ? Empty words by Findalis (a true patriot of what? Israel) and the ever so smart Linnea. I don't understand your values. It's all smoke and fluff.

Yes, Gary, I know that you did your duty long time ago.

Frankly, I don't know what you find so objectionable in this posting. What is objectionable about Findalis going to a memorial service at a Veterans cemetery? And what is wrong with being a super patriot?

Aside from the Midnight Mission in LA (which feeds homeless people), my favored charities are those that do work for wounded vets and children of fallen soldiers.

What is the problem?

Yes, we do have Soviet military vets to thank for their huge role in defeating Nazi Germany. Even I who grew up and got a Cold War education, was taught that what the Red Army did in WW 2 was heroic. I have met a couple of Soviet WW2 vets and seen newly-weds lay wreathes on the tomb of the unknown soldier -in Kiev and Moscow-. I honor what they did in WW2 at a cost of 20 million people. That we fell out-inevitably after WW2 is another matter.

Ingrid I volunteer one day a week at the Veteran's Hospital, and 2 days a week at the VA Nursing Home. Yesterday was spent with patients from the Nursing Home and my family (something I have done since my children were little).

Oh Bryan we remember those who died for the US on Memorial Day. The Russians have their own holiday for their war dead.

Ingrid how many hours a week do you spend at your local VA hospital volunteering. I spend 20 hours a week. I don't normally publicize it, since what I do is my own damn business.

I have been a volunteer for over 10 years now. Made many good friends there and there have been times when some of the older patients have died that I was one of a handful of volunteers who were the only mourners at their funerals.

Take some time out of your busy week and give one day or one hour to those who have served.

BTW, there are many young people (teens) who volunteer too. They aren't super Patriots, just good kids.

Bryan, I am not the President of the United States, for one. Don't you think it rather odd that the Commnander in Chief of the Armed Forces could find nothing better to do with his time than to get in another round? Secondly, I actually did attend services, and I did thank the "guys" in our town, and we have a lot of them being next to Camp Pendleton, and I did have my children put flags on the statues. The president should not have seen this as "just a chance for a quick round." He is a selfish, narcissistic prig.

Okay Findalis, I am sorry, I take back what I said, I didn't know you are that much involved with the veterans. Of course you are right not bragging about what you do there, and I was wrong about assuming that you only saw Memorial Day as a day of fun.

Linnea, can you link me to any proof that President Bush (W.) did things any differently on Memorial Day? He may not have played golf, but I'm sure he had some leisure time. We all know how much he loved clearing brush on his ranch in Texas. But please, show me how our previous President went above and beyond what our current one did yesterday. Otherwise you need to admit that you're criticizing based simply on party affiliation.

Thank you Ingrid. I try to encourage people to go to the Old Veterans Wards (or their local nursing homes) and give a few hours with those who have given so much for us.
