LA Crackdown


Lately, I have been reporting on the efforts to get Jamiel's Law passed in Los Angeles so that LAPD could start getting known illegal alien gang members off the streets. A sensible common sense move, right? Well not according to the overwhelming majority of the LA City Council, the mayor, the police chief and whoever else draws a paycheck from the City.

But not to worry. While LA burns under the violence of gang warfare, its mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa has time to go to Washington to give a warm up speech for Barack Obama at the League of United Latin American Citizens convention (now that his first favorite, Hillary Clinton, has flamed out).

Meanwhile, savor this piece of pending legislation offered up by City Council member Jan Perry, who represents South LA. It seems Ms Perry is alarmed about the rate of obesity of her constituents (how she knows is beyond me). It also seems that 45% of the eating establishments in her district are fast food joints. Solution to this clear and present danger? Ms Perry is proposing a moratorium on allowing any more fast food restaurants in South LA.

Well done, Ms Perry. Now the city leadership is micro-managing what its citizens should eat. Talk about a nanny state gone wild. But on the positive side, if the LA City Council can't prevent its citizens from being killed by gangs, they sure can prevent them from dying of coronary disease-if they live long enough without being killed by the gangs, that is.
