While I was composing my own remarks to the passing of Tony Snow, I also took the time to see what some of the far-left blogs were saying. As I write this, MoveOn.org seems to be ignoring the story. The Huffington Post put up a wire release with reader comments. I guess I would have to say that the comments were mixed, some proper, giving condolences to the family, but several others not at all kind.
As for the Daily Kos, one really has to wonder about their readership. While the Kos put up a lead post by someone who knew Tony's pastor and reported positive things, the overwhelming majority of the Kos' readership wrote in with negative words, several being vicious, vile, and not worth repeating here. Unfortunately, this seems all too typical for the far-left and reminiscent of when President Reagan passed on.
I don't want to waste too many words on those folks. Rather we should grieve for Tony's early passing, pray for his family and celebrate the good he did with his life.

Look, Gary, I'm not going to defend what some people on the left might be saying, but considering that you promoted a blog recently that has a cartoon on it that depicts a pregnant Muslim woman in a hijab, with a fuse coming out of her belly and the caption reading "The other Muslim bomb" I can only respond with a really loud and resounding:

There's plenty of hate coming from everywhere. Liberals are hardly winning the contest in who can be the most vile.

As for the cartoon, that wasn't on my blog. Are you referring to Lionheart? I think it was referring to the Muslim population explosion in Europe.
The theme of Lionheart's blog is to highlight radical Islamic activity in the UK and Europe and the surrender, if you will, of European authorities to a dangerous threat in Europe.
As for the cartoon, I probably wouldn't use it myself, but "I could no more throw Lionheart under the bus than my own...."
Hey, if you're trying to use Obama quotes against me, you've got the wrong guy. The best that I've been able to say about him is that I haven't completely decided that I'm not going to vote for him yet - hardly a ringing endorsement.
I'm sorry, but you've got some serious conservative blinders on. Yeah, the cartoon wasn't on your site, but that kind of propaganda is right up there with "If you worked as hard as a JAP, we'd be in Tokyo by now!" (That particular slogan was accompanied by a yellow-faced, buck-toothed charicature of a Japanese worker.)
I don't know how you can say that the liberals are winning the war of hate speech when conservatives have Michael Savage, Ann Coulter, that one doofus who kept saying "Barack Hussein Mohammed Obama), Sean Hannity, etc. It amazes me that you can defend them (to be fair, you've never defended Savage - or the doofus whose name I don't remember) and dismiss it as "satire" or "patriotism".
Again, the line between satire and reality is blurring. Forgive me, but you seem to be channeling Bill O'Reilly again. Just make sure you don't start citing financial journals that don't exist.

Sorry - was assuming that you knew all of the references. I was saying that his cartoon was reminiscent of the anti-Japanese propaganda posters of WWII. They were viciously racist - just as that cartoon is.
Aside from that, I'm just saying that you sometimes turn a blind eye to the vitriol from the right, excusing it as "satire" or something, and then you get all up in a huff about what the left is saying.
Well, at the risk of inviting a ten page response, if you can give me examples of vitriol from the right, I will try to address them.
Remember my original point- badmouthing someone who has just died like Tony Snow. Remember, when it was announced that Ted Kennedy had cancer, the right was almost unanamous (why can't I spell this word?)in hoping for his recovery (Sean Hannity et al) Check out the reader comments on Kos regarding Snow.
A quick internet search turned up the following quotes regarding Kennedy from conservative forums:
"Good riddance.
One less liar against the US.
Of course, there is no word as yet.
But I hope his dam*ed mouth, at least, is affected.
And I've no use for the rest of him, either."
"Gosh, I don't feel a bit of sadness and I ought to be ashamed. Maybe this is his punishment for the way he's conducted his life."
"I do not feel a bit ashamed at hoping the fat son of a pregnant dog dies.
He can take Pelosi, Reid, Kerry, Obama, Hillary, Biden, Dodd, etc. along with him as far as I'm concerned.
I would not piss on the man if he were on fire. I'd sit back and watch him suffer."
Do me a favor, Gary, don't defend those comments, because they're indefensible. If you do, you just might make my head explode.
I checked out Daily Kos, and while some people were definitely being vitriolic (although from what I can tell, most of the criticism was regarding the job that he did, and not the man personally), I honestly don't remember any that were as bad as that. (Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if you found some that were).
It should also be noted, regarding both the conservative AND liberal forums, that these are comments that anybody can post, and they're not posts by the people who run the forum.

I condemn every one of those statements (though for a moment, I thought you were reading yesterday's Daily Kos). Don't worry, your head isn't going to explode.
Pls refer to my own posting on Ted Kennedy's illness. Also, you should research the comments made by Hannity and other prominent conservative voices. Most of us learned a valuable lesson in this regard when Reagan died, and we had to see references to him burning in Hell.
Of course, you are correct that there is a difference between what the blog itself says and what the readers post. But stop to consider what kind of audience the Kos has that so many of its readers would make those statements. The Huffington Post has drawn criticism for leaving vicious comments up for hours or days before removing them (apparently in the interest of good taste.)
PS I think Keith Olbermann is on a "much-needed" vacation this week. If I miss or have missed his comments on Snow, I would be interested in knowing.
In reference to my question about Keith Olbermann's reaction to Tony Snow's death, I just Googled it and here it is:
"Tony Snow was a man who could set aside his politics and inspire others to do the same. It might surprise many at all political points, but while we could not have disagreed more on policy, we were in frequent contact, even during his days as Press Secretary, even as I was criticizing his work and he was — in his own words — yelling at the screen as he watched. It was with great sadness that I heard of his death today, and with sincerity I extend my condolences and my staff's to his family. In the best of us, there is a difference between the message and the messenger, and Tony Snow epitomized that."
If my previous response to Lance implied that I expected something else from Keith, I would be in error. Way to go, Keith.
That is what the left is all about. Looking at the difference, when it was announced about Kennedy's brain tumor those of us on the right sent out request for prayers for his recovery. With Tony Snow, the left is dancing in the streets celebrating his death.
This is the difference between adult behavior and childish behavior.

You are spot on. There are exceptions on both sides, of course. But in general, that is the trend.
