At 9 pm Western Time, with 91% of the Indiana vote counted, Lake County (Indiana)votes are starting to come in-finally. This county is located in the part of Indiana near Chicago and includes largely black Gary. Initial reports indicate Obama is winning heavily in the county, and Clinton's lead has shrunk to 51-49%.
While the networks wondered why the delay in Lake County's reporting, Fox News' Bob Beckel, a Democrat, has once again, laughingly told the story of a past election when he called an (unnamed) mayor of Gary asking when the votes would come in. According to Beckel, the answer was, "When you tell me how many votes you need." This is not the first time I have heard Beckel tell this story.
So, as I write, is there monkey business going on in Gary, Indiana? Fox News reporters at the scene asked officials what the problem was and could only get the answer that the counting was slow.
Will this late surge in Lake County give Indiana to Obama? Interesting, very interesting.
