May Day in Olympia

May Day somewhere in the world

"Power to the People!!"

Kudos to Michael Medved for reporting on this year's May Day disturbances in Olympia, Washington. It seems that Washington's capital city regularly experiences disturbances on May Day. This year was no exception.

In the downtown area, the usual rabble of anarchists threw rocks at the windows of a bank, painted graffiti on walls and grappled with police. Six people have been charged with felonies. At least one of them has been described by authorities as a "professional protester".

Meanwhile, at the capital building, protesters, who had been allowed to gather on the capitol steps, broke into the building demanding to meet with Washington's ultra-liberal governor, Chris Gregoire. This forced a lock down of the building with employees being locked in their offices. The "protesters" were advised that 5 of them could meet with a representative of the governor, to which one numb scull responded, "We will not be divided!" Eventually, some did meet with the representative while others busied themselves painting graffiti on the walls of the recently-restored capitol. No arrests were made-not surprising considering the liberal crowd that is "in charge" at the capitol.

According to an article in The Olympian, the populace is getting fed up with the annual intrusion of troublemakers celebrating May Day, the sacred Communist holiday. The Olympian also speculated that this year's brouhaha may imperil a proposal for Olympia to become a "sanctuary city."
