Rush hour in Detroit
Welcome to Detroit, once America's 4th largest city, the home of Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler, er Fiat. What better place to spend your long, hot summer vacation than what was once Motown?
And here's the best reason: There's plenty of room. Yes sir. No overcrowding here. The hospitable folks are giving up their homes so there will be plenty of room for tourists. That's you. You can actually buy a summer home for the price of one dollar.
Like this English Tudor.
Here are some sight-seeing ideas. First of all, you want to check out Detroit's old town, which rivals the medieval splendors of any European city.
Or visit the ruins of Detroit's greatest architectural masterpiece, Tiger Stadium. It puts Rome's Colosseum to shame.
Or visit the international quarter in Dearbornistan. They really welcome outside visitors. The annual Arab Festival is not to be missed.
Yes, everywhere you wander, you will see the imprint of Detroit's past great leaders who have left their mark on this city, from Jimmy Hoffa to Coleman Young to Kwame Kilptarick.
(And don't worry about parking.)
But where to stay? I recommend the Holiday Inn in Lansing. Or the Hilton in Ann Arbor. And don't worry about the commute. In spite of the fact that Detroit is the hqs of the Big 3 car manufacturers, there is no traffic. That's because there is nobody there.
While there, be sure and pick up some travel brochures for Detroit's sister-city, Calico, California. That can be next year's destination.

I might add that it has a HUGE airport where it is very easy to get lost. I had to pass through it once on the way to Ann Arbor. Next time, I drove from Milwaukee.
Some 40% of the street lights are out and it takes an hour to get a response for a 911 call ... among other things.
At least everyone is equal in the misery there... that is the objective of the liberals, isn't it? Life is too unfair, so we have to redistribute wealth and make everyone miserable equally.
Obama's America will look like Detroit.
.
I understand that the city council is planning to spend $440 million to build a new stadium.
Where are they going to get that money?
They already have a new baseball and football stadiums.
Miggie has it exactly right, both in terms of income and healthcare. Rather than figuring out how to elevate the standards of the poor, the plan is to redistribute wealth such that, in the extreme as we now have, instead of "haves" and "have-nots", we will all end up as "semi-haves" at best.
The same goes for Obamacare. Rhetoric aside, essentially EVERYBODY in America, including immigrants both legal and otherwise, already has totally free access to at least basic healthcare of one form or other. What we are ending up with is that the comparatively very few who had mediocre health care (ER's, possibly Medicaid, etc., but still MUCH better than in most of the rest of the world) may move up a notch or so, but not really very much.
In contrast, and as a result, the good/very good healthcare the many of us currently have will be reduced to the near-mediocre, and at a higher premium cost in most instances at that. Mine certainly is already starting to get there. All stemming from liberal worship at the altar of fairness/equality.
There are better ways to do a lot if not virtually all of this, none of which involve nearly as much redistribution of wealth, if in fact any at all.

I don't.
