UC Davis Chancellor Grovels Some More

Yesterday, UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi held an open meeting to address the incident last week when protesters were pepper-sprayed by campus police (who had been ordered to dismantle an encampment with tents that had been set up by protesters). It was an exercise in groveling in sackcloth and ashes. The below article is from this week's The Aggie (UCD campus paper).

It appears that one thing is lost in this article. Last Friday (just before the cops sprayed into action), Katehi had sent out a letter demanding that the encampment be dismantled by 3 pm.

Whatever happened to that demand?

"As Tuesday came to a close, protesters continued to occupy the UC Davis Quad. Student EMTs worked to organize a schedule for the medical tent. Others tried to decide what to do with their tents over Thanksgiving break. Students not involved in the protest took time out of their day to ask protesters about the movement. Some protesters said Tuesday that despite the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, many students are planning on continuing to occupy over the break. It is not very clear what will happen between Wednesday and Sunday, but one thing is for sure — there will be a holiday dinner."

Well, as the saying goes,

"Whose campus? Our campus!"

After all these articles written about this episode, I still can't find out the reason they are "occupying." If they are acting in sympathy with the other "occupy" sites, then the only coherent demand I've read is that they want their college tuition loans forgiven.

If they want to change the "system" then they should say what they want to replace it with. If they want some bankers to go to jail, they should specify which one and what law they say he broke and what evidence they have.

It is all these nebulous "hope and change" platitudes they think is worth occupying for that demonstrates the damage that Obama and the left wing have done to this country. They embrace bumper stickers and believe they are a united political movement. When you get right down to it all they know they want is more free stuff.
