Follow-up to Anti-Semitism at UC Berkeley

Professor of Jewish Studies, John Efron, speaks out against anti-Semitism

Ecology Professor Andrew Gutierrez heckles young demonstrators

Jewish students at UC Berkeley are speaking out about their concerns about anti-Semitic expression on their campus in the wake of the discovery of swastikas on campus.

(Hat tip to the Orange County Independent Task Force on Anti-Semitism and J Weekly (SF) for the report.

In the wake of all this, I decided to check out the UCB website to see if Chancellor Robert Birgeneau had anything to say about all this. Nothing there.

So I went to the Daily Californian campus paper to get the reaction to last week's events. Nothing. All I could find was that the chancellor is negotiating with a bunch of hunger strikers unhappy over Arizona's immigration law and punishment for students who disrupted the university a few months back. Apparently, the chancellor has agreed to one of the demands that he issue a statement condemning the Arizona law and call on President Obama to find a way to repeal the law.

This is a classic example of what is going on in our universities. A group of students and faculty protest against anti-Semitic hate and get heckled by a professor because he detests Israel. Shocking.
