Hillary: She's Baaaack

Today it is reported that Hillary Clinton, during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneris show, left the door open on possibly joining the Democrat ticket as the vice presidential candidate.

I don't rule it out, and here is why:

Right now, the top two candidates are Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, both well advanced in age. If one of them gets the nomination and goes on to be elected president, there is a pretty decent chance that they could die in office.

As you can see, there is her path to the presidency-through the back door. But she's used to that. She clearly still thinks she can be the savior of the Democrat party, and it sure needs saving.

Of course, I would be shocked if Bernie Sanders chose her as his running mate after what she did to him in 2016. But who can figure out what goes through Bernie's head?

Biden? Sure, why not? He would need  someone to get him dressed in the morning, get him down to the Oval Office, and tell him what to do.

With this woman, it ain't over till it's over.

Italian TV Chef Attacks Kirk Douglas as a Zionist

Not everybody is mourning the death of Kirk Douglas, the famed American actor who died yesterday at the age of 103. Gabriele Rubini, a TV chef better known in Italy as Chef Rubio, is attacking Douglas as a Zionist. Rubini is a supporter of the Palestinian cause, and is reportedly spending time in Gaza to support the Palestinian people, etc etc.

As reported by Vanity Fair, since last December, Chef Rubio is in Gaza in Palestine to participate in the Gaza Freestyle Project, a member of the Vittorio Arrigoni-VIK Italian Cultural Exchange Center, which is a group of people and volunteers of diverse backgrounds, whose object is "to organize emergency humanitarian projects to help the people of Gaza". As announced by Chef Rubio himself on his Internet site, his presence in Gaza would continue after the Gaza Freestyle Festival to document via social (media) "the humanitarian efforts of the collective of operators and the efforts of a people forced to live under siege.

Comment: I have come face to face with a lot of pro-Palestinian activists in the last dozen or so years. Most are either misguided, stupid, or just vicious Jew haters. It takes a special kind of jerk to attack a decent man like Douglas when he dies after such a long and distinguished life.

The Highs and Lows of the State of the Union

I have never been terribly interested in State of the Union addresses. They tend to be over-hyped in their presentation, and the language often gets too mundane, boring and corny. In recent years, the partisanship has been a turn-off even though it might increase the interest. Trump has no doubt made the SOU more interesting. Given the impeachment proceedings and all the rancor, I was sort of looking forward to last night's event.

While some of Trump's speech was standard cornball rhetoric, it was one of his best speeches. There were some negative references to what the last administration had failed to do, which outraged the Democrats, but mostly it was a positive speech.

Another feature of recent SOUs which has bored me are when the president starts talking about some heretofore unknown person in the audience who stands and receives applause. Last night, however, there were some truly inspiring moments; the Tuskegee Airman General Charles McGee and his grandson, the surprise appearance of an Army sergeant, whose wife and two children were in the gallery, and Rush Limbaugh (fighting advanced lung cancer) getting the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and others. Yet, for much of it, the Democrats in Congress sat on their hands. To be honest, they all looked like they had a bad case of the flu. Their facial expressions, posture and body language were downright embarrassing. Yes, there were a few times they applauded, a few even stood once or twice, but they also sat out many applause lines that everybody could have joined together on.

Then there was Nancy Pelosi.

Whether or not Trump saw her extend her hand at the opening is open to question. He was turning away and may or may not have seen it. That said, Pelosi knew that she was constantly on camera sitting behind the president, and that her expressions and actions would be seen by the whole country. Simple respect for the occasion and the office of the presidency should have compelled her to sit respectfully. She did not do that. Instead, she had a strange expression of disgust on her face and often resorted to reading (or pretending to read) her copy of the speech. It was unnecessary. She was listening to it real time.

But that was just for starters.

Incredibly, as the President finished his speech, she stood and tore the speech up and dumped it on the desk. When has a speaker of the House ever done that before? It was not only a gesture of disrespect to Donald J Trump, whom she clearly loathes, it was a gesture of disrespect to the presidency. Many are saying today that she also tore up the references to General McGee, Rush Limbaugh, and all the other worthy people who were in the gallery being recognized. Whether she considered that prior to doing what she did I don't know.

Pelosi probably never considered that not only were Americans watching on television, her constituents and Trump's constituents, but people around the world were watching as well. Today, I spoke on Skype with a Dutch friend of mine in the Netherlands. The first thing he wanted to discuss was Pelosi tearing up the speech. He felt that it was shocking and inappropriate.

This is what we presented to the world last night-the "world's greatest deliberative body". Trump fulfilled his role last night, but Nancy Pelosi and her gang did not. They were, frankly, an embarrassment.

I have never considered Pelosi to be a very bright person though she is said to be politically shrewd. Now she is becoming a caricature of herself. Some claim that she is having problems with alcohol, which may account for her increasingly embarrassing performances. I don't know if that is true, but something is very wrong with Nancy Pelosi.

Few campuses are worse than UC Berkeley. On Monday, the student senate was supposed to vote on a bill condemning anti-Semitism-specifically Bears for Palestine for promoting anti-Semitism. That was until the little brown shirts of the pro-Palestinian movement took over the proceeding. It was all too familiar. Israel Unwired has a video.

One has to ask: Where is the feckless chancellor of UC Berkeley, Carol Christ? Where is the feckless president of the University of California, Janet Napolitano? They are hiding under their desks. They should both resign. The tenure of both women has been an abject failure.

Concern for Safety of Women in Amsterdam

Mayor Halsema: Great concern for their safety

Amsterdam- The city leadership of Amsterdam is greatly concerned over the safety of girls and women in Amsterdam. According to Mayor Halsema, girls and young women are being confronted with sexual intimidation or violence in increasing numbers. Therefore, she is announcing measures.

Research shows that 51% of women in Amsterdam have been confronted with street intimidation. For the ages 15 to 34, the percentage is 81%. Especially around the Central Station, by the red-light district, around the Leidseplein (Square), Bijlmer, Jan Evertsenstraat (Street) and the Mercatorplein (Square) are places where many reports come from. Also online there is a large increase of sexual harassment and violence.

Halsema states that for a smaller group of girls and women the situation in Amsterdam is "really alarming and almost hopeless due to a negative spiral of abuse and violence, sometimes extended over several generations." The most unsafe place for women is at home, many perpetrators are ( ex) partners or family members. In Amsterdam, for example, the number of registered violent incidents  went up by 7 percent: from 6,183 in 2017 to 6,608 in 2018.

Greater readiness to report

The figures are a reason for Halsema to begin a campaign, the focus of which, is victims of sexual intimidation and violence, on the street or online. One of the aims is to create more readiness to report, so that the police and the Public Prosecution Service can conduct investigations. A personal approach is also being launched for girls who have been multiple victims of sexual violence.

Halsema is also entering into talks with the hotel-restaurant and night club industry because personnel are likely to see practises of pinching, intimidation and abuse. "Most do not count this as one of their responsibilities."

Search for safe places

For victims, safe places to live and be sheltered have become the most sought after-even outside the city. Social workers are also encouraged to work differently. "Social workers and parents often have little control, and there also seems to be a professional inability, whereby the problems are incompletely recognized or cases where people work past each. other," says the mayor. Amsterdam earlier introduced a ban on street intimidation, but it is not enforced in the capital city because the court in the Hague earlier ruled that the similar Rotterdam provision is not legally valid.  According to the judges, such a ban can only be introduced by the Second and First Chambers (Parliament).

Actually, I would put Islamic terrorism right at the top. "Piddling little minor problem", indeed. And I have news for Professor Cole. Lots of people have fallen down and hit their head in the shower. (Just yesterday, a couple of people fell in the shower and hit their heads in London.) He might want to choose a more apt comparison. But it's not the first time Cole has pooh-poohed the issue.

A bigger threat than Hitler's Axis? Seriously? World War II caused some 56 million deaths. I challenge Cole to produce numbers of deaths due to climate change that can match that. And a minor correction: It was the US Military and the military forces of our allies that defeated Hitler. With all due respect, it wasn't Cordell Hull. I guess Cole just doesn't want to give any credit to our military.

Then there is Big Issue number 2. Plutocracy.



One of the biggest canards against Trump is that he is racist, represents racists, and is keeping minorities down. If Cole is concerned about inequality, he might want to look at the economic indicators under Trump's presidency. Not only is the economy booming, but unemployment figures are at historic lows-especially for African-Americans and Hispanics. And that is represented in the growing approval rates for Trump among those groups. 

"Only Bernie Sanders among the candidates understands the urgency of the Crisis of Plutocracy and has a workable plan for dealing with it. Tax policy was the major instrument working against vast inequality and plutocracy in Eisenhower’s 1950s and we need desperately to return to that."

Yes, Bernie has a plan. Raise our taxes. Income redistribution. Cole is arguing that we-desperately-need to raise taxes.

Finally, there is Big Issue number three:

"Microfibers and microplastics are everywhere. In fish, microfibers have accumulated in key organs and caused starvation and sterility. They are accumulating in human beings, too. Microfibers attract carcinogenic chemicals and concentrate them in key organs. This development is extremely alarming. As a cancer survivor, that angers me to a boiling rage."

Yes, it's crisis time because microfibers and microplastics are everywhere. And how about that insect Armageddon? And it's all because of those corporate polluters and Donald Trump.

I am all for keeping panda bears and Siberian tigers from going extinct, but I'm not so sure about the California cockroach.

Randall Stephenson aside, this paragraph implies that CNN supports Trump, which is a laughable implication. Stephenson might be a Trump supporter, but CNN is on a  non-stop crusade to destroy Trump.

And I wish Cole had provided an explanation for the Sixth Major Extinction, so I didn't have to Google it. For all I knew, it come have been the Coming of the 12th Imam.

But fear not.

Bernie Sanders is a Marxist. That is not the formula for this country. It is a system that is a proven failure. It is a system that has currency only in academia, where theories dominate. There is a vast difference between theory and reality. The Soviet Union, where Sanders spent his honeymoon, and the East Bloc were a reality. Cuba is a reality. Only fools like Sanders, his young, immature followers, and his cheerleaders in academia fail to see that.

The Latest London Stabber: Sudesh Amman

Details are now coming out about the identity of the man who went on a stabbing spree Sunday, stabbing two people before being shot dead by police-who were apparently surveilling him since his release from jail last week.

His name is Sudesh Amman (20). Last week, he was released from jail after serving about half of a three-year sentence.

Clearly, Britain needs to pass some new legislation. Amman was serving time for a terrorism-related offense and was let out early. Thus, a detachment of police had to put him under surveillance because they feared he would strike. And he did.

Belgium: Stabbing-Shooting Incident in Ghent

Today, at about 4pm, Belgium time, a man was shot by police in Ghent after stabbing two passers-by with a knife. The reason for the attack and the identity of the suspect are not known at this time.

Shooting-stabbing area of Brugse Poort

Bevrijdingslaan in Ghent closed after shooting incident


Ghent- The busy Bevrijdingslaan in Ghent was rocked Sunday afternoon by a shooting incident. What happened is not yet clear. The police are at the scene en masse.



What exactly happened Sunday afternoon around 1600 hours is still unclear. The police have closed off the street, but are giving no further information. "The investigation is in progress, (and) we will give a statement later," says the public prosecutor. Though the prosecutor is giving no further statement for the time being, it speaks of a "serious incident."

The reason for the incident is still unclear. But the bystanders in the Koffieshop cafe on the corner of Notelaarstraat (Street) tell what they saw. According to them, a young man was being chased by the police. When the officers told the man to stop, he- according to witnesses- (made stabbing motions) around himself. Two bystanders were, thus, wounded. One of the victims was (reportedly) struck in the stomach.  The police then reportedly shot the attacker in the hand.

The fire department set up a tent on the street to treat people. The Bevrijdingslaan is closed between Notelaarstraat and Virginiastraat. 

* Update: Dagelijkse Standaard (NL) is reporting that the stabbing suspect in Ghent is a woman, not further identified. Translation pending.

*Update (Monday). Four people were stabbed, and a 26-year-old woman shot in the hand and under arrest for attempted murder. Prosecutor says, motive unknown but no connection to terrorism. 

UK: Police Kill Jihadist Stabber in London

At about 2 pm, London time, in what police are describing as a terrorist incident, an unidentified jihadist went on a stabbing rampage, injuring at least two people before being shot dead by police.  The Daily Mail has all the video and photos.

*Update: BBC is reporting that the dead suspect had been relased from jail in late January after serving about half of a three-year sentence (offense unknown). He was reportedly under police surveillance as a terror suspect when he launched his attack. Finally, he was clad in what is now described as a fake bomb vest.

Comment: Britain may have gotten out of the EU, but they still have to deal with a massive Muslim population, some of whom are bent on killing innocent people. The idea that only certain designated police are allowed to carry firearms is outdated and insane. It is time to arm every police officer in Britain.
