A CAIR official in Orlando is one of 101 persons arrested in a child sex sting. Saleem was arrested allegedly for trying to hook up with a 12-year-old.

As Another Cop is Buried.....

New Orleans Housing Authority Officer James Bennett was buried last Friday. He was shot as he sat in his patrol car for no apparent reason other than he was a cop.

This did not happen in a vacuum. There was, indeed, a reason why Officer Bennett was assassinated as he was sitting in his squad car. It is a direct result result of the public demonization of our police at the hands of the liberal media, the Al Sharptons of the world, our Justice Department, and our own president.

Let's don't forget the recent murder of two New York cops as they sat in their patrol car a few months ago. I will say it here and now: The Marxist mayor of New York City, Bill De Blasio, has blood on his hands for his own public statements about the police that proceeded the killings.

And De Blasio is hardly the only big city mayor deserving of criticism. The current mayor of Baltimore, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, has acted in a totally irresponsible manner as has her public prosecutor, Marilyn Mosby in the indictment of 6 cops in the death of Freddie Gray. If, God forbid, a Baltimore cop is shot and killed, these two will have blood on their hands as well.

And our media? Let's go back to the Ferguson incident in which Officer Darren Wilson killed Michael Brown. We all remember the "Hands up, don't shoot" mantra, don't we? How often was that repeated by the media and elected political leaders in Missouri and Washington, not to mention Al Sharpton? Except it wasn't true. It was based on the lies of a street criminal named Dorian Johnson, who was with Michael Brown when they strong armed that liquor store and engaged in a confrontation minutes later with Officer Wilson. Subsequent investigation, supported by forensic evidence, supported Officer Wilson's account of the incident. Johnson lied. And yet, "Hands up, don't shoot" still persists.

Our then-attorney general, Eric Holder and our president covered themselves in shame as they implied that Officer Wilson was guilty of murdering Michael Brown. Sharpton, who masquerades as a civil rights activist and journalist for MSNBC, also convicted Wilson-just as he convicted George Zimmerman in the Treyvon Martin incident in Florida.

And equally as astounding is the fact that the De Blasios, Sharptons, Rawlings-Blakes, Mosbys, Holders and Obamas and their stooges in the media are completely ignoring the record homicides of blacks in the big cities at the hands of other blacks.

Those black lives don't matter. They only matter if if they are killed by cops in the line of duty. The reason is because all those deaths demonstrate the dysfunction that exists in the inner cities-something that the Holders, the Sharptons and the Obamas cannot fix. Nor we they address. It is much easier to blame white cops.

A Despicable Op-ed in UC Irvine's New University

Reading university campus newspapers, you come across a lot of dopey stuff. I tend to go easy on student journalists because, after all, they are young people learning to write and learning about the world too.

I don't go so easy on professors who write tripe like this piece that is running in this week's New University, the campus newspaper of UC Irvine, where I teach part-time in the Extension. In the below piece, sociology professor Chuck O'Connell takes exception to the university commemorating Memorial Day. You'd better take your blood pressure medicine before you read this piece. (I have submitted a comment in the reader thread. Whether they will publish it is doubtful.)

"I don’t know if Mr O’Connell is a veteran. I am. (full disclosure: I was stationed in Germany for three years during the Vietnam war.) As a vet, I take exception to his op-ed, in which he literally spits on Memorial Day and implies that those who gave their lives for our country deserve less than our commemoration.

Mr O’Connell: If you want to get up on your soapbox and insult our military, you could choose a less auspicious occasion than Memorial Day. You should also consider this: Were it not for the United States of America, and especially our military, no country in the world would be living in freedom today.

I think your op-ed is despicable."

Chuck O'Connell seems to me like one of those liberal professors with an axe to grind. The first time I caught his act was in January 2009 when I attended a day-long circus at UCI entitled, "Whither the Levant" It was non-stop Israel-bashing featuring such "luminaries" as Norman Finkelstein, Saree Makdisi and Gabriel Pieterberg  of UCLA and UCI's own Theo Goldberg and Mark ("Don't call me anti-Israel") LeVine. At one point, O'Connell appeared and gave a rambling, disorganized talk that touched on everything from the Israel-Palestinian question to the distribution of wealth, labor laws, and the US-Mexican  border. I remarked at the time that somebody needed to give the man a lesson plan.

The last time I saw O'Connell was when he brought in a crackpot anti-Israel activist anthropology professor named Jeff Halper. This guy actually immigrated from the US to Israel but now travels the world trashing his adopted country. The highpoint of the evening was when he told a student audience (plus me) about something called "spectral dust". This is a substance, you see that can be programmed with the DNA of a target you want to eliminate. Released into the Palestinian territories, it seeks out, locates and kills its target.

So much for Jeff Halper. So much for Chuck O'Connell. Tonight, I will be sending in a response to the New University with a request that they put it into their print edition next week. Whether they will or not, I have no clue. I think what I sent in to the online edition pretty much covers what I want to say here. The op-ed written by O'Connell is despicable. It dishonors our country, our military, and its dishonors our troops, past and present.

Last week, Professor Chuck O'Connell wrote an article in New University taking issue with UCI's commemoration of Memorial Day. He  gave a list of wars with which he took issue with-all the way back to our war in the Philippines! It is not my intent here to debate our actions in each of those wars. My point of contention here is that O'Connell not only trashed our country, but our military and our troops as well.

I don't know if O'Connell is a veteran. I am though I hasten to add that I spent my three years in the US Army stationed in Germany during the Vietnam war. Thus, I hold great respect for those who have served in combat, and will respect their opinions if they are disillusioned about the wars they served in in Afghanistan, Iraq or Vietnam.

But where does O'Connell get off with statements like these?

or this:

I would submit that it is the veterans who can educate the university, both those vets who agree with O'Connell's opinions and those who do not. In addition, it is the university's responsibility to truly educate-not indoctrinate the students with some professor's personal view of the world.

And this:

"Note that nothing, absolutely nothing, is said about the people of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Yemen – the children, the women, the men – who have died because of the American attacks. Their cumulative death toll now numbers in the hundreds of thousands. Note that the flags in Aldrich Park are for the Americans only.  Note the nationalism promoted through this flag-planting ritual. Note that brown lives don’t matter. Note the racism of it all hiding behind honor and loyalty."

Outrageous. Professor O'Connell  cleverly implies here that our troops are racist killers who indiscriminately murder innocents. Not even mentioned are the actual terrorists and enemy fighters that our forces were facing in battle (Viet Cong, North Vietnamese army, Taliban, Saddam's Iraqi army, al Qaeda, ISIS etc).

O'Connell also implies that the university doesn't care about our veterans who suffer from wounds, PTSD, suicidal tendencies and homelessness. 

"Note that nothing is said of the tens of thousands of living veterans wounded by war: those with traumatic brain injury, with PTSD, with painful memories of sexual assault, with missing limbs and scarred bodies.  Neither is there any mention of suicidal vets and homeless vets.  Is it asking too much to recognize those living veterans who still suffer? Note the limitation of compassion in the silence."

O'Connell apparently thinks that it is only his crowd that cares about these issues. I can assure him that those of us who support the commemoration of Memorial Day and who support our military do care about our suffering vets. Nobody is more outraged about the well-documented failures of the Veterans Administration than vets themselves-whether we need their services or not.

Professor O'Connell: If you want to get up on your soap box and trash our country and our military, that is your First Amendment right. Guess who guaranteed that right: Our military. Have we made mistakes? Sure. Some of those mistakes were made in the context of fighting the Cold War. Now we are fighting fanatical terrorists who want to kill anyone who doesn't think like they do. But no matter what you think of our military history, were it not for the US-specifically our military- no country in the world would be free today. In my view, your article-especially questioning the commemoration of our war dead and our vets on Memorial Day- is truly despicable.

"Why Us?" Ask Local Muslim Leaders

The Orange County Register has a warm and fuzzy, politically-correct article on its front page today concerning the local Muslim community's divided response to President Obama's Countering Violent Extremism program being piloted in LA, Minneapolis and Boston.

“But we have to ask the question: Why only the Muslim community? Is the government working with all communities that face the challenge of violence and extremism?”

In response to the above quote, what other community sees its members going off to join ISIS or al Shabaab? Of course, Hussam Ayloush, the CEO of CAIR in Southern California, raised my eyebrows a few months ago when he asked why no programs were directed at the "thousands of young American Jewish men going off to join the Israeli Defense Forces killing the people of Gaza".

I see Shakeel Syed is mentioned in the article. This is the guy who was front and center at the trial of the so-called Irvine 11, the students who disrupted the speech of Israeli ambassador Michael Oren at UC Irvine in 2010. Syed showed up at the trial with duct tape over his mouth.



On another occasion a couple of years ago, Syed showed up at UCI during a speaking event by Hatem Bazian of UC Berkeley. On that occasion, he asked a planted question from the audience referring to Israel as a "racist, genocidal, apartheid state" (I was there.) In 2012, I met Syed at Loyola Marymount University in LA during another sharia town hall. We had to ask him repeatedly when the audience could ask questions of the speakers. Syed was also one of the sponsors of that infamous charity dinner in Yorba Linda in 2011 that featured "noted humanitarians" Amir Abdel Malik Ali and Siraj Wahhaj as speakers.

And Michael Downing? I met him in 2012 at the Garden Grove mosque during a sharia town hall event held to convince the public that Sharia law was compatible with US law and our Constitution (which is clearly is not). Downing was on that panel and echoed that same sentiment. After the event, I spoke to him and told him that in 1992, Muzammil Siddiqi, the head imam at the GG mosque, had hosted the Blind Sheikh, Omar Abdel Rahman ( now serving life in prison for the 1993 NY terror plot), at the mosque and translated  his words on jihad for the congregation. Downing's response?

"Well, you know Gary, some people change over time."

To sum up, nobody wants to paint all Muslims as terrorists or terrorist sympathizers, but don't insult our intelligence by asking, "Why our community?"

The Anti Defamation League: Starting to Figure it Out?

The Anti-Defamation League has long been considered the leaders in the fight against anti-Semitism in America. My own personal observations have left to to believe that they prefer to focus their attention on neo-Nazi and White supremacy types. However, when it comes to anti-Semitism coming from Muslim quarters, they have not stepped up to the plate.

I have frequently said that in my experiences observing the anti-Israel hysteria at UC Irvine evey May courtesy of the Muslim Student Union and now Students for Justice in Palestine, ADL representatives, while being present at these events, have not spoken out.

But thanks to organizations like the AMCHA Initiative and Zionist Organization of America, attention is now being rightly focused on campus anti-Semitism. Now comes this report from the ADL on the subject. Finally. Welcome to the party, ADL.

Notice that the ADL, while correctly mentioning the BDS drive against Israel, still couldn't bring itself to identify the perpetrators. I will.

We can start with the various chapters of the Muslim Student Associations. Add to that the chapters of Students for Justice in Palestine, many of whose members are the same members of the campus MSA chapter plus some non-Muslims and even leftist Jews. Throw in leftist, anti-Israel professors and the invited activist speakers and there you have it.

None of that was mentioned in the ADL article. I mean, c'mon! If you are going to complain about victims, you need to say who the perps are.

The Farhud in Iraq

I recently cross-posted an article by Jerry Gordon in the New English Review regarding UC Irvine. In that article, one of the people Jerry interviewed was Reut Cohen, a former UCI student. Jerry also interviewed Reut as to her family background, which goes back to the Iraqi Jewish community. She also has family members who lived in Syria. It is a fascinating interview as Reut hails from a Jewish family that experienced the pogrom against Jews in Iraq in 1941, the farhud.

This is a reminder as to anti-Semitism in the Middle East that pre-dated the creation of Israel as well as what happened to hundreds of thousands of Jews living in Arab countries when Israel was created.

DHS Extends Protected Status for (Gasp) Somalis

To do so, applicants must file a Form I-912, Request for Fee Waiver, or submit a written request. Fee waiver requests must be accompanied by supporting documentation. USCIS will reject the TPS application of any applicant who fails to submit the required filing fees or a properly documented fee waiver request."

Inability to pay fees? Why are we letting them in if they are not self sufficient? Immigrants are not supposed to be an economic burden on us, right?

"The 18-month extension also allows TPS re-registrants to apply for a new Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Eligible TPS Somalia beneficiaries who re-register during the 60-day period and request a new EAD will receive one with an expiration date of March, 17, 2017."

I guess this is all to accommodate those Somalis who went back to join Al Shabbab and were thus unable to fill out the necessary forms because they were out of the country.

Here is an article in the blog An Inquiry Into Islam that caught my eye (for more reasons than one). In this piece, the author writes of a recent experience with young Thai immigrants.

As one who has lived in Thailand, speaks the language, loves the people, and enjoys meeting Thais in this country, I say a hearty, "Amen!" In fact, the great majority of Americans have no objection to immigration as long as the new arrivals come legally, obey our laws, assimilate, and don't try to impose their belief system upon the rest of us.

And that is where too many (not all) Muslim immigrants fail the test-on that latter point especially. Even many of those who are not jihadists or terrorists hold a wish that someday in the future, America would become an Islamic country living under sharia law. Many believe that this can be achieved through peaceful means by immigration, intermarriage, dawa (proselytizing), conversion, and a high birth rate. If you think that is a preposterous idea, look no further than Europe.

Sorry, but that is unacceptable. Add that to the rising cases of Muslims in this country who are taking up arms against us and you begin to understand why so many are against any further Muslim immigration into the US-and that includes me.

This has nothing to do with race. People talk about the "browning of America", but that is not an issue with me (I am married to a Mexican.) I mean, if we started to look like those beautiful young ladies in the above picture, who could complain about that?

No, this is a question of our safety in the age of terror and maintaining our American traditions not of some idea of white superiority, which I don't subscribe to- but our ideals of equality and tolerance for other religions, for the rights of women and gays. We have worked too long and too hard to get to where we are, and we are not about to throw it away.
