Alleged Discrimination at Cornell University

"Discrimination" Prohibited by Title VI Under Sections 601 and 602

Section 601 of Title VI: Addressing Intentional Discrimination

Section 601 of Title VI requires that, as a condition for receiving federal dollars, recipients comply with the mandate that "[n]o person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

-From the US Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VI

Cornell University

William A Jacobson is a law professor at Cornell University and the editor of Legal Insurrection, a blog that largely deals with anti-Semitism and leftist radicalization on campus. He is speaking out on a controversy on the Cornell campus centering around English professor Eric Cheyfitz, an anti-Israeli activist, who also happens to be of Jewish background. Currently, Cheyfitz is under investigation by the university over an allegation that he refused to allow an Israeli student to enroll in a course he will be teaching regarding the Gaza conflict, a course that Jacobson and others feel is biased to the Palestinian narrative and will only fuel more anti-Jewish feeling at Cornell. Cheyfitz is also facing possible disciplinary action by Cornell. As noted by Jacobson, Cheyfitz is not under scrutiny for his political views on Israel, nor for the course he has created, but rather because he allegedly violated the civil rights of a student based on nationality.

Jacobson's article in Legal Insurrection can be read here.

Ironically, almost 20 years ago, when DOE/OCR was investigating complaints of anti-Semitic discrimination at the University of California at Irvine (where I was teaching at the time), the case was eventually unsuccessful, partially because among the Jewish students who were complainants, none were Israeli. At the time, religion was not included in the 1964 Civil Rights Act, but national origin was-and still is. Thus, if a professor were to deny a student from enrolling in a course due to that student's nationality, that would constitute a violation of the student's rights- in plain, simple English.

At any rate, if this is accurate, it is clearly wrong and must be treated seriously by the university. This has gone on too long, and it's time to use the law if the universities will not do what's right.

Germany: Two Turkish Families Fight it out in Gelsenkirchen: One Dead

Gelsenkirchen

In the Ruhr area of Germany, two Turkish families took to the streets of Gelsenkirchen on Sunday night and engaged in a mass brawl involving some 30 people using knives, stun guns, and baseball bats. One man died of a stab wound, and several others are in serious condition. Six people are in custody. The cause of the clash is unknown, but it is reported that there was an earlier fight on Friday between the two groups.

The article below from MSN is translated by Fousesquawk. We are working on providing a video with English subtitles.

"Tumultuous situation" with 30 people: Man dies after mass brawl in Gelsenkirchen

In the evening, police were called to the Bismarck quarter of Gelsenkirchen. Several people were involved in a mass brawl there. As a result, several people were critically injured. One man died of his injuries in the hospital. Others wound up in handcuffs.

At least 5 people were seriously injured-4 in life-threatening condition-  in a serious fight involving up to 30 people. According to Bild-Zeitung, a 56-year-old died in the hospital from a stab wound to the heart. Two other victims are still in critical condition, according to the newspaper.

According to the latest information, on Sunday evening, around 8 pm, knives, stun guns, and baseball bats were used, as reported by the police and the State Prosecutor's office in Essen.

According to police, three male suspects, ages 16, 29, and 52, as well as three female suspects, ages 25, 28, and 50, were arrested.

According to some reports, police were deployed in large numbers and extensively closed off the crime scene on Pommernstrasse (street) in the Bismarck quarter to secure evidence and interview witnesses. A police helicopter was also at the scene.

According to Bild, a connection to clan criminality is unconfirmed. According to the newspaper's information, it was reportedly a fight between two large Turkish families who live in close proximity to each other. Earlier on Friday, there was a clash. It is possible that a (meeting to resolve the dispute) broke out into violence.

As to the background of the clash, there is no definitive information as yet. For this reason, police have set up a homicide squad and ask witnesses to call 0209/3657112 or 0209/3658240.

Belgium: Man Found Hanging From Traffic Sign on Brussels Beltway

Suicide or gangland murder?

In a scene reminiscent of those we have seen in recent years in places like Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, a body was found hanging from a highway traffic sign on the highway ring around Brussels on Sunday. It is not clear whether this was a gangland slaying (of which Belgium has its share) or a suicide. An autopsy is pending. The identity of the man is unknown to the public.

The article below in the Dutch-language daily, HLN, is translated by Fousesquawk.

*Update 9-29-2025. Investigators are still operating under the belief that it was either a suicide or a settling of scores by a drug gang. The French-language Belgian daily, La  Libre, is reporting that the deceased is believed to be a 29-year-old Albanian.

Body hangs for hours behind traffic sign on Brussels Ring

On Sunday morning on the Brussels Ring at Anderlecht, the lifeless body of a man was found. He was hanging behind a traffic sign and was tied to it with a rope or cable. That is reported by the Sudinfo newspaper and was confirmed to our staff by a source. "It is reminiscent of how the Mexican cartels sometimes operate," a source said.

September 28, 2025, at 20:43. Last update: Yesterday at 22:20

It looked like a scene from one of the "Narcos" series on Netflix. Today, on the highway on the border between Dilbeek and Anderlecht, by the Westland Shopping Center, the body of a man was found. Not lying on the ground, but hanging behind an orange traffic sign fastened with a rope or a cable. Most likely, the lifeless body was hanging for some hours before the alarm was sounded at midday. "Some saw it this morning and thought it was a  Halloween decoration,"  said a source.

Cartels

The Highway Police were the first at the scene, after which the case was turned over to the Federal Judicial Police. The death is considered suspicious, though it could also be a suicide. "It is reminiscent of how the Mexican cartels sometimes operate," said a source close to the case.

The prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the death.

*Update ( 10-4-2025). There is still no official confirmation of the cause of death of  Bekim H. the 29-year-old Albanian man found hanging from a traffic sign, but it leans toward suicide. Some Albanian media circles believe he was involved in cocaine trafficking and was killed by a rival gang. His brother disputes the claim that he was involved in criminal activity but suffered from depression.

Georgetown University: Flyers Celebrating Charlie Kirk's Death Discovered on Bulletin Board

On September 24, flyers were discovered on a bulletin board on the campus of Georgetown University celebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk. A group calling itself the Georgetown John Brown Gun Club, a far-left group, is linked to the flyers. It is unclear whether this is a registered club at Georgetown University.

The university has condemned the flyers and is investigating, along with appropriate law enforcement officials.

Here is how the campus newspaper, The Hoya, is reporting the incident. In addition, this article in The Hoya is reporting threatening notes against "lefties" and referencing the KKK that were discovered on campus around midnight on September 27.

Obviously, both messages are to be condemned. Like far too many universities, Georgetown University has not been immune to discord and extremist thinking. The Kirk assassination has brought the problem of political violence on our college campuses to a whole new level, and these sick messages only underline that fact.

This is a cancer in our universities that has been growing and festering for decades and has now reached its nadir with the assassination of Kirk at Utah Valley University. Tolerated by weak-kneed administrators and egged on by radical professors, far too many of our institutions of higher learning, predominantly our most prestigious, have been infected by this sick counterculture. Somehow, it has to be reversed, and now more than ever, it is a time for everyone concerned in academia, including students, to do some self-reflection and reevaluate what a university is supposed to be. Is it supposed to be a center of resistance to the "establishment", a place to protest against all the ills of the world, a place to train the next generation of activists, or a place to educate as opposed to indoctrinate?

France: 20-Year-Old Afghan Charged with Raping 80-Year-Old Woman

Victim died as a result of the rape

A 20-year-old Afghan man has been charged with the rape of an 80-year-old woman in the town of Niort, France, an attack that occurred in July 2025. As a result of the rape, the woman died, but according to the charges, the death was  "unintentional". The defendant is identified only as a 20-year-old Afghan national.

The article below from La Nouvelle République, which is translated by Fousesquawk, also refers to two similar cases that occurred in the same region in recent years. They are hyperlinked (in French). They are noted in the translation below by asterisks.

20-year-old man placed in pre-trial detention after the rape and murder of an 80-year-old woman in Niort at the beginning of summer

Caption: The crime was committed in Niort on the night of Saturday, July 5-Sunday, July 6, 2025: The case was assigned to the officers of the Organized and Specialized Crime Division in Poitiers.

By Aurelien Douillard   Posted 9-27-2025 at 12:37, updated on 9-27-2025 at 18:00

The Prosecutor's Office in Poitiers, responsible for criminal cases in Deux-Sevres, has just confirmed the arrest of a man suspected of rape leading to the unintentional death of a woman at the beginning of July 2025 in Niort: The victim was 80 years old.

The facts played out on the night of Saturday, the 5th to Sunday the 6th of July 2025 in Niort, but the Republic Prosecutor of Poitiers confirmed them on Friday evening, September 26: Rachel Bray stated that a man born in 2005 had been charged, "last week" for rape leading to unintentional death. This was, "at the end of his period of custody, carried out per the request of an investigating judge." In this case, " the Judicial Court of Poitiers has responsibility under the criminal division," the magistrate stated. The investigation is assigned to the investigators of the Organized and Specialized Crime Division of Poitiers, formerly the Judicial Police.

At least two previous cases since 2019

This case is reminiscent of two others that have occurred in the recent past in the department. One night in September 2019, a 20-year-old young man raped an 83-year-old pensioner in her residence in the Niort city center. The criminal court of Deux-Sevres sentenced him in 2022 to 18 years imprisonment and to be then placed in social-judicial supervision for 7 years.*

In the summer of 2020, a (person on the fringes of society) sexually attacked and then murdered another 80-year-old woman in her home in Bressuire: He was sentenced, during the same Deux-Sevres Criminal Court court session, to 30 years imprisonment with a security period** of two decades, to be followed by 10 years of social-judicial supervision.***

Translator notes:

* The defendant's name in that case was Walid Jhihiri.

** Under French law, a security period is an initial period of the condemned's prison sentence in which he or she cannot file for a reduction in sentence.

*** The defendant's name in that case was Youssouf Bacar, a native of Mayotte, a French overseas possession.

France: Three Female ISIS Returnees Sentenced to Prison

Three French women, all converts to Islam, have been sentenced to prison by a court in Paris for having joined ISIS in Syria. One of them is the niece of brothers Jean-Michel and Fabien Clain, also French converts, who are believed to have been killed in Syria.

The article below from Le Figaro is translated by Fousesquawk.

Syria: Three French returnees sentenced to 10 to 13 years in prison

By Le Figaro with Agence France Presse

58 mintues ago

The Paris Special Criminal Court has sentenced three women, including the niece of the Clain brothers to prison terms of 10-13 years for belonging to the Islamic State group

Jennyfer Clain, 34, is sentenced to 11 years imprisonment. On Thursday, the prosecutor of the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office (Pnat) requested 13 years for her. Her mother-in-law, Christine Allain, 67, is sentenced to 13 years imprisonment, two-thirds minimum to be served. The prosecution had requested 15 years.

The third defendant, another daughter-in-law of Christine Allain, Mayalen Duhart, 42, is sentenced to ten years imprisonment with an order of deferment (delay in reporting to prison), in conformance with the  (prosecution) closing argument. All of them are also sentenced to (post-custodial) social-judicial supervision.

"Ideological commitment is completely behind her"

The lawyer for Jennyfer Clain, Attorney Guillaume Halbique, welcomed a "balanced" decision for his client. "The fact of not having a period of security* will allow us to consider filing a request for reduction of sentence," he added, indicating that the niece of the Clain brothers  "a priori" will not appeal the decision. "The ideological commitment is completely behind her and has been for a number of years," her attorney claims.

*Translator's note: A period of security in French jurisprudence is a period of time in which a person sentenced to prison cannot appeal for an adjustment of sentence.

On Friday morning, Jennyfer Clain expressed her "sincere and profound" apologies to all of the "direct and indirect victims, in France, in Syria, in Iraq, and elsewhere" of the jihadists and to her 5 children. "I am not a victim; the victims are the others, those the organization I belonged to tortured and massacred: I am responsible," Mayalen Duhart declared before the court retired to deliberate.

The three women had been on trial since September 15 for having joined ISIS in 2014 along with their children. They remained in Syria until 2019 before being arrested and returned to France.

The James Comey Indictment

James Comey, the former director of the FBI, has been indicted in the Eastern District of Virginia for perjury and obstruction of justice. The indictment stems from testimony he gave before the Senate in September 2020 (during the 2020 presidential campaign) as to whether he authorized former FBI official Andrew McCabe to leak information to the press about the Bureau's investigation into Donald Trump.

Let me state at the outset that I am not a fan of Comey, whom I believe abused his powers as FBI director on multiple occasions and may have violated the law in his handling of the investigations into Trump, as well as presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, going back to the 2016 election. It was Comey who signed off on FISA affidavits for warrants to electronically eavesdrop on Carter Page, a Trump campaign member in the 2016 election, affidavits based largely on the Steele dossier, which has been discredited, and which the FBI had every reason to doubt even then, as they were including it in their affidavits.

That, however, is not the charge against Comey today. The charges center around who authorized a leak allegedly by McCabe to the Wall Street Journal.

On that point, I don't know what the facts are, and Comey will have his day in court. Having said all that, as a former federal agent (DEA), I am uncomfortable with this indictment.

This morning on Fox News, Andrew McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor whom I greatly respect, said that the case is weak because there are questions about what McCabe later said about the authorization from Comey. Even if McCabe testifies against Comey, his own credibility is zero (at least to most people, if not CNN, which hired him as their law enforcement analyst.)

Secondly, while I have always maintained that Trump was the victim of multiple witchhunts, designed to put him in prison or at least prevent him from running for president in 2024, and while I believe that other individuals like John Brennen, Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, James Clapper and others abused their positions of power and possibly broke laws as well, I am very uneasy about what can now reasonably be perceived as Trump's effort to gain revenge against these people. I am also troubled by Trump's statements about Comey subsequent to the indictment. He is literally trying Comey in the media. In my view, this is highly improper for a president. I recall when Charles Manson and his followers were on trial in Los Angeles decades ago, and then-President Nixon told the press that Manson was clearly guilty during the trial. Manson proudly held up the newspaper headline in court.  It is not the role of a president to pronounce anyone guilty until a guilty verdict has been rendered. Such statements can even prejudice a defendant's right to a fair trial.

Along those lines, I am also uncomfortable with a memo that Trump reportedly sent to DOJ days ago, urging indictments. I think it is improper. Some conservative pundits, in defending Trump's actions, have said that the DOJ works directly for the president. That is true, but it is improper for the president to pressure his attorney general to prosecute anyone. That is a decision to be made by the Justice Department based on the evidence and likelihood of a conviction. Prosecutions must be made in the interest of justice, not retribution.

There is little doubt in my mind that Trump was improperly targeted by both the Obama and Biden administrations. Is it going to become our standard in the United States of America that every incoming administration is going to try to put the previous administration in jail? That is the stuff of banana republics.

Andrew McCarthey also stated this morning on Fox News that he doubts the Comey case will ever make it to a trial. I have to agree.

Sweden: Will Send Hundreds of Prisoners to Estonia in 2026

Having obtained the required majority of Parliamentary votes, the Swedish government is going ahead with an agreement to send up to 600 prisoners to Estonian prison facilities in 2026. That is reported as an initial number. The move, much debated, has been approved due to the rampant crime problem in Sweden and resulting overcrowding of Swedish prisons. This is, of course, mostly due to the violent crime being carried out by many migrants in Sweden, either acting individually, in concert with terror organizations, or on the part of organized criminal immigrant gangs.

I assume most, if not all, of those sent to Estonia will be foreign prisoners.

The article below from the conservative Swedish news outlet, Nya Dagbladet, is translated by Fousesquawk.

Parliamentary majority secured- Prisoners will be sent to Estonian prisons

Organized crime

Posted today at 13:58

By Isac Boman

Caption: Agreement with Estonia initially includes 400 cells with places for up to 600 inmates.

The Social Democrats stand behind the government's proposal to initially rent 400 prison spaces in Estonia. The announcement means that the necessary Parliamentary majority is secured to solve the acute lack of space in Swedish prisons.

"We have concluded that this is necessary," announces the party's legal-political spokesperson, Teresa Carvalho.

Sweden and Estonia signed an agreement this summer to rent spaces in a facility in Tartu. The reason is the acutely pressing situation in Swedish prisons, where more and more people are being sentenced to long prison terms as a result of the rampant serious crime and efforts in recent years to combat it.

Prison services and concerned unions have long sounded the alarm that overcrowding in the prison facilities constitutes a serious safety risk for both personnel and the inmates themselves.

To hand over responsibility for prisons to another country is not entirely uncontroversial, since this is usually considered one of a state's core tasks. Therefore, a qualified majority in Parliament is required, something that the Tidö parties' (coalition) narrow advantage is not sufficient for.

"Cannot turn a blind eye to the problem"

The Social Democrats' announcement on Thursday is of great importance, even though  Teresa Carvalho stresses that the party would actually prefer Swedish solutions.

"Swedish correctional services should be conducted in Sweden," she says, and points out that several prisons in Sweden would both improve correctional services and create Swedish jobs.

"With that said, we cannot turn a blind eye to the problem of the shortage of capacity. We have concluded that it is necessary to rent this prison in Estonia," Carvalho, who visited the facility in Tartu this autumn.

The Center Party has also given its support to the proposal.

600 inmates beginning Summer 2026

The agreement with Estonia includes 400 cells for up to 600 inmates, with a planned start in the summer of 2026.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (Moderate Party) believes that Sweden and Estonia have the same views on human rights and the rule of law principles. He has also been to Tartu and believes that the government has received sufficient guarantees that the correction services there will be conducted properly.

With the Social Democrats' yes-announcement, the government can now go forward with the (highly) debated but, according to the judgment of many, very practical solution for Sweden's growing prison crisis.

Jimmy Kimmel: His Words and Suspension

There is a lot to untangle regarding ABC's brief suspension of one-time comedian Jimmy Kimmel following his disgusting monologue on the Charlie Kirk assassination. You will recall that Kimmel implied that the accused killer was part of MAGA and that MAGA was attempting to hide that "fact". He also mocked President Trump's (inartful) reaction to the murder when asked by reporters, (Kimmel) comparing it to how a boy would mourn the death of his goldfish. The reaction from the public was largely one of outrage.

Personally, I am no fan of Kimmel, who, in my view, abandoned humor a long time ago in order to rant against Trump and conservatives in general (which is his right). I find the above comments tasteless and disgusting. Should he have been suspended?

On the surface, one could point out that it was ABC and Disney that suspended Kimmel, not Trump, his administration, or the FCC. Was there pressure exerted on ABC/Disney by the above? I personally do not agree with the way Trump handles criticism. In contrast, George W. Bush, in my view, handled the intense criticism directed at him with grace and dignity. I also question the remarks made by FCC Chair Brendan Carr about how ABC should handle Kimmel. Were Kimmel's employers genuinely upset about his remarks, were they reacting to public outrage, or succumbing to the words of Trump and Carr? Was it all an ethical decision to suspend Kimmel or a business decision? And for that matter, did ABC cave in to the outrage over the suspension from Kimmel's supporters in lifting the suspension?

Having said that, I watched a replay of Kimmel's monologue when he returned to the show. To say the least, I was not impressed. Yes, he said some things that were appropriate regarding the murder and how it should be treated by society. Yet, at the same time, he said that it was not his intention to mock the death of Kirk-which is what he did with his goldfish comment. That line was designed to get laughs, something Kimmel doesn't do much of these days. In addition, his implication about MAGA was factually incorrect, which is obvious. This was a targeted political assassination, from the left in this case, something Kimmel cannot seem to accept.

He also made the statement, "This is not about me....". He then proceeded to spend the remainder of the show making it precisely about him. He talked about the threat to his First Amendment rights and how he was victimized by Trump and Carr. Charlie Kirk was quickly forgotten as Kimmel prattled on about his own "victimization".  In effect, he doubled down on the offensive words that got him suspended, just in a different manner.

All of that was lost on his audience, who cheered him as if they were cheering their favorite football team. Then again, I guess you don't buy tickets to someone's show if you aren't already a fan.

Personally, I don't care if Kimmel is suspended or not. I don't like him, so I don't choose to watch him-except when I need to understand what the controversy is all about, as in this case. As I said, he has the right to say offensive things. Nobody is talking about Kimmel being arrested for his offensive statements, but if ABC or Disney decide that Kimmel is hurting their brand and their bottom line, I think that is up to them.

France: Serial Sexual Predator on Trial in Paris

Hat tip Francois Desouche

"Terrified, Elsa met the gaze of a 60-year-old who was a few meters from her. "I cried for help," she remembers. "But instead of intervening, he turned his back on me and looked away as if nothing was happening." {...}

The French blog, Francois Desouche, is cross-posting an article from Le Parisien reporting on the trial of a 26-year-old Tunisian defendant, identified only as Nidhal O., who is on trial for multiple sexual assaults against 6 women in Paris committed over the course of 3 days in 2023.

The suspect is reportedly illegally in France, having already been deported from Belgium after being convicted for various acts of violence in that country.

The headline and first paragraph below are from Francois Desouche. The final two paragraphs are from Le Parisien. The complete article from Le Parisien is not available due to a subscriber block. Translation by Fousesquawk.

Paris: Expelled from Belgium, Tunisian, Nidhal O., in the country illegally, hunted his victims, "like prey". Six women attacked in the space of three days

September 24, 2025, at 17:40

Since Monday, Nidhal O., a 26-year-old Tunisian, has been on trial in Paris for sexual acts and attempted rapes committed against 6 women within the space of 3 days in December 2023. The verdict is expected Friday. Arriving in France a few months earlier, after having been expelled from Belgium, where he had been convicted for acts of violence, the Tunisian, Nidhal O., addicted to cannabis, seems to have been wandering the streets of the capital, where his immigration status is illegal.

(Translator's note): The text below was cross-posted by Francois Desouche from Le Parisien. There are only two paragraphs available due to a subscriber block.

For Elsa (first name has been changed), there is now only one way to sit on the Metro: "Arms crossed, coat closed, and face to the ground," she says. "At the (slightest) thing, I am on alert," the young woman continues, who no longer goes out with her tear gas spray. The reason for this "hypervigilance"? On December 5, 2023, shortly after 11 pm, she was the victim of a sexual attack in the corridors of the Miromesnil station while she was changing between lines 13 and 9.

On the phone with her sister, the 18-year-old student had almost arrived at the platform when she crossed paths with a man dressed in a green jacket. "He passed me and suddenly, I felt him grab my arms strongly from behind and drag me to the wall," Elsa remembers. Quickly, she found herself trapped with her attacker pressing his hand on her chest. Terrified, Elsa met the gaze of a 60-year-old who was a few meters from her. "I cried for help," she remembers. "But instead of intervening, he turned his back on me and looked away as if nothing was happening." {...}

*Update (September 27, 2025): On September 26, 2025, Nidhal O. was sentenced to 11 years in prison to be followed by a permanent ban from French territory.

What Should Universities Do About Employees Who Celebrate Assassinations?

Hat tip The College Fix

In recent years, Columbia University has arguably been the worst school in the nation when it comes to anti-Semitism and poor behavior by leftists on campus, on the part of students, professors, and outside agitators. The biggest problem has been the outrageous behavior of the pro-Palestinian forces, but in the wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, universities have been plagued by disgusting expressions of outright joy over his death and/or insults to his memory. Columbia is no exception, as exemplified by this report from The College Fix describing statements made by "environmental justice" lecturer, Hadeel Assali, who reportedly referred to Kirk as a "dead Nazi" on social media and condemned Columbia for lowering the flag to half staff in his memory while railing against Zionists and "colonial white supremacy". The article also lists others from various universities who applauded the death of Kirk, some of whom have been fired or suspended.

As many universities around the country scramble to comply with the Trump administration's efforts to eliminate anti-Semitism and leftist indoctrination from our campuses, the Kirk tragedy has added to the tension. It is hardly a secret that many in our universities feel no sympathy for Kirk, his family, and his followers. The case of Assali raises the question of free speech, ironically, one of Kirk's favorite causes.

So the question begs: Should Columbia take action against Assali for her repugnant words on social media? Should she be fired or suspended, as have others who have made similar comments?

The question reminds me of my own experiences teaching part-time at the University of California at Irvine when I became active in the anti-Semitism controversy. I publicly criticized the university-and the entire UC system- for what I perceived as an unwillingness to protect Jewish students from the disruptive, bullying, and hate-filled words and actions of the pro-Palestinian crowd on campus. In addition, I created my blog to disseminate my views on the subject. Along the way, I wrote critical articles about political Islam and its ties to anti-Semitism and terror. I offended many people. Should I have been disciplined by UC Irvine? The truth is that I never was. The university, both at Irvine and throughout the UC system, respected my right of free speech. Of course, in my opinion, I never crossed the line into indecent or disruptive words or deeds. I never celebrated an assassination. Others felt offended by my words. That's the cost of being an activist.

If these characters were being hauled off to jail for celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk, I would speak out on their behalf. That is not the case here, and that includes so-called comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who is dealing with suspension for his disgusting comments about the Kirk assassination.

In my opinion, it comes down to this: If an employer has credible grounds to think that an employee is bringing discredit to their company, institution, university, or whatever, they have every right to decide whether the continued employment of that person is in their best interests. Of course, it can get very subjective, especially when the person in question is speaking privately on social media or some third-party venue not related to their employer. Can an employer terminate someone because that person publicly encouraged a vote for Donald Trump or Kamala Harris? That would be extreme. It is easy to really get into the weeds on this, depending on the issue. Virtually any controversial subject is bound to result in someone being offended.

My common sense rule tells me that to publicly celebrate the assassination of someone you don't like is bringing discredit to your employer. I realize that many of the left considered Kirk to be a "racist", "Nazi", or "fascist". I believe they are flat out wrong. Kirk died because someone didn't like his views and his pronouncements, with which I most certainly agreed on most, if not all, topics. But regardless of the motive, murder is a crime in the US, and any celebration of such is wrong. Not in a criminal sense, but as to job protection, words do have consequences.

Universities are under fire these days, not just from the Trump administration, but from the public at large, and for good reason. If a university chooses to fire or suspend an employee for bringing discredit or embarrassment to their school with their public statements, I support that right as long as the university can make its case.

And while they are at it, universities might also consider getting rid of such useless academic topics as "environmental justice".

Berlin: Another Bloody Gang Fight (Afghans vs Syrians): One Dead

We recently reported on a knife fight in Berlin between what was reported then as two groups of Afghans, in which 6 participants were hospitalized with knife wounds. The incident occurred at the Humboldt Forum, a reconstruction of the old imperial palace in the Mitte quarter of the city.

Now it has happened again at the same site. On Friday night, a clash broke out between a group of about 15 Afghans who allegedly attacked three Syrians. One Syrian was stabbed and died of his injuries.

20-year-old dies after bloody fight at Humboldt Forum

Berlin. At the Humboldt Forum in Berlin-Mitte on Friday night, yet another clash.  A new hotspot for criminality?

Caption: In a clash at the Humboldt Forum, a man is killed.

A 20-year-old Syrian was fatally injured in a violent clash between two groups in Berlin-Mitte. On Friday evening at the Humboldt Forum near the Karl-Liebknecht Bridge, he was so severely injured by a sharp or pointed force that he initially had to be resuscitated, as a police spokesperson said in a video on X. As the State Prosecutor's Office reported on Saturday, the man succumbed to his injuries and died during the night. The spokesperson has initially declined to provide information as to the weapon.

In the fight, three people were attacked by a group of around 15 people at around 19:35, as the report states. The other two men from the smaller group, ages 22-23, were slightly injured. A homicide squad and the State Prosecutor's Office have taken over the investigation. There have been no arrests as yet. The analysis of physical evidence and witness statements is ongoing.

According to our information, the hostility between an Afghan group and a Syrian group was the trigger for the incident. Whether the violence broke out spontaneously or the clash was deliberately planned is as yet not clear. Police spokesperson Florian Nath told Berliner Zeitung as to the preliminary status of the investigation: "It seems as if a group of Afghans attacked a group of Syrians." The police confirm to us that the victim is a Syrian. As to the other group, there is no confirmed information since there were no arrests, the police told Berliner Morgenpost.

Similar incident at Humboldt Forum a few weeks ago

Only three weeks ago, at the Humboldt Forum, there was a knife fight between two groups, during which, according to police, 6 men suffered injuries.

At that time, a 24-year-old was critically injured in the back and operated on at a hospital. The other men, ages 20 -26, according to police reports, suffered stabbing and cutting injuries to the hands, legs, as well as the pelvis and upper body. A 14-year-old and two men, ages 19 and 20, were arrested. The background for the bloody clash was also initially unclear in this case. Whether there is a connection with the incident on Friday is under investigation. One parallel is at least apparent: Then also, Afghans and Syrians were going at each other.

Is the Humboldt Forum now a new hotspot? Not likely, according to security circles. It is probably a temporary move away from the nearby Alexanderplatz, one of the 7 "crime-plagued places" in the capital. This shift could have to do with the heightened police presence as a result of the police station there. However, Alexanderplatz remains one of the most dangerous corners of Berlin. In the past year, there were a total of 35 stabbings and 80 gun incidents recorded by police on and around the square.

The Assassination of Charlie Kirk

This article first appeared in New English Review.

As somebody who has been involved in campus issues for several years, the assassination of Charlie Kirk this week while speaking on the campus of Utah Valley University has hit me like a gut punch. I was teaching part-time at UC Irvine when I first heard about Charlie and his organization, Turning Point USA. My feeling back then was that this was just what the doctor ordered, and I came to become a great admirer of Charlie and his work. Over the years, his stature grew more and more nationally, and he inspired untold thousands of young conservatives who were fed up with the far-left indoctrination on our campuses. He literally went into the belly of the beast and took his message to the ones who needed it most-our youth in the universities. He invited open debate about anything. He not only was extraordinarily courageous, but he was also extremely intelligent and handled the exchanges easily, not in an angry manner, but with good cheer. He did not hate the young people who were challenging his beliefs.

As a Christian, Charlie supported Israel and supported Jewish students on our campuses as they put up with harassment, bullying, and disruption of their events by various Muslim Student Association chapters, Students for Justice in Palestine, Jewish Voice for Peace, and Antifa-types.

We are still learning about the thinking of Tyler Robinson, the alleged shooter. It has been reported that he considered Charlie to be a "hate monger" and a "fascist". It is also reported by law enforcement that his rifle and bullet cartridges contained messages, like "Catch, Fascist", "Ciao Bella", and other writings that give a clue to his thinking. (Ciao Bella was the song made popular during World War 2 in Italy by anti-Fascist partisans.) This may indicate that Robinson's thinking is in line with that of Antifa. Whether he was active in the Antifa movement or participated in their antics is not known at this point. It does seem obvious, however, that Robinson's ideology is polar opposite from Charlie's, that this was a politically-motivated act, and that Charlie was murdered for his beliefs and what he espoused. As to the exact issue that most motivated this murder, we do not yet know. Charlie spoke on a number of social issues in his campus appearances.  It could be Charlie's support for President Trump, the Republican party, the transgender issue, the Israel-Palestinian conflict, abortion, his Christianity, or a combination of everything.

For how many years now have we been warning our university leaders that a tragedy would happen on a campus somewhere if they didn't take more decisive action to protect all people on campus, regardless of their background, religion, or beliefs? Yet, they have continued to wring their hands and prattle on about inclusivity and anti-Semitism having no place in their university, downplaying or denying its existence. For too many years now, they have all too often instructed their campus police forces to keep a low profile when controversial events are coming to campus. How many times up to now have they stationed campus police on rooftops overlooking outdoor areas where people like Charlie were speaking? I am unaware of any, but I bet they will now. They must.

In addition to sadness and anger over the assassination itself, I am beyond disgusted by the celebratory or unsympathetic reactions by some on the left, including our media. People like Matthew Dowd implied on air (MSNBC) that Charlie brought about his own death with the things that he said. MSNBC rightly apologized for his comments and fired him. What else could they do-stand by him and his comments? Shame on Matthew Dowd and his ilk. Ten of him couldn't make one Charlie Kirk. The same sentiment goes for Ilhan Omar and her filthy reaction to this event.

You would have thought that the left would have learned its lesson last year when then-candidate Donald Trump narrowly escaped assassination, not once but twice. When you continuously demonize someone by calling them a  "Nazi", a "fascist", a "racist", does it come as any surprise when some deranged person picks up a gun and tries to kill them? Unfortunately, the lesson was not learned; it just carried over to Charlie Kirk. Utah Governor Spencer Cox wondered whether this event would be a watershed moment for America, whether we would turn away from all the hate and violence, or rather, would this act just inspire more. He struggled to answer the question, as anyone would. Sadly, I think the latter will be the case. Being old enough to remember the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and others, I don't think we Americans learn our historical lessons very well.

Charlie Kirk died because someone did not believe that he and others had the right to express their views, which were contrary to their own. It is not surprising that it occurred on a college campus. He also died because he was such an effective spokesman for conservatism. At age 31, he had a bright future ahead of him. Many believed he could become president one day.  Many give him credit for helping re-elect President Trump. I totally agree.

May he rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing.

Portugal: Jewish Cultural Center in Portugal Suffers Constant Vandalism

-Sapo.pt

The Jewish Cultural Center in Lisbon has reportedly been the target of regular acts of vandalism and messages of hate. The article below from Sapo.pt is dated September 6 and is translated by Fousesquawk. (Note that the article incorrectly spells the name of the director of the Jewish center. The correct spelling is Waldman.)

"Killers of children": Jewish Cultural Center in Lisbon target of vandalism every week

Caption: "Killers of children": Jewish Cultural Center in Lisbon is the target of vandalism every week.

"There is an explosion of anti-Semitism in Lisbon", lamented the director of the Jewish Cultural Center, pointing out that Jews and Israelis living in Portugal are not responsible for the conflict in Gaza.

The Jewish Cultural Center-Rua (street) da Judiaria, in Lisbon, has been the target of weekly acts of vandalism and messages of hate since the beginning of the war in the Middle East, the founder of the association told Lusa.

Every week, stickers and messages written about the boycott of Israel and against the Israelis appear on the exterior walls, Luciano Waldeman (sic) said, giving as examples, "You are not welcome in Portugal" or "Death to Israel".

"People cannot separate the things," he lamented, stressing that the center has been the target of anti-Semitic attacks.

On Monday, messages like "Free Gaza", were written on the walls of the Jewish Cultural Center, but also declarations of hate towards Jews as "child killers".

The founder of the center on Rua da Judiaria also related that every two weeks, someone appears who tries to tear down the Star of David, a Jewish symbol in the form of a 6-pointed star, from the wall.

Luciano Waldman said that he has already had conflicts with persons from the group, Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS), a movement led by Palestinians that advocates for the end of occupation in Gaza and of the colonization of Palestinian territories.

"I said to the man, Look, I respect your opinions, but not the stickers. The man simply wanted to attack me, shouting like a crazy man saying, ' you are a Zionist, Zionists like you have to die, people like you deserve to die,' and so on," he (Waldman) said.

Contacted by Lusa, BDS denied the accusations and declared it has no knowledge of the conflicts, stressing that it doesn't tolerate discriminatory acts.

"In conformance with the UN definition of racial discrimination, the BDS movement does not tolerate any act or speech that adopts or promotes, among others, anti-black racism, anti-Arab racism, Islamophobia or anti-Semitism, or sexism, or xenophobia, or homophobia," the organization stated.

The movement further stated that it rejects the comparison of critics of the state of Israel with anti-Semitism.

"We repudiate any dishonest and dangerous attempt to equate and make criticism of the state of Israel equivalent to anti-Semitism," BDS stated.

Luciano Waldman said that he has received racist insults at Rua da Judiaria, for example, "Go back to your country, the man with the little mustache was right."

"There is an explosion of anti-Semitism in Lisbon," lamented the director, pointing out that the Jews and Israelis who live in Portugal are not responsible for the conflict in Gaza.

"We are not soldiers and we are not the government of Israel that is making decisions about the war,  the official stated.

He further stated that he has filed hundreds of complaints to the Lisbon City Council regarding the messages of hate, and the incidents are posted on the center's social media, on Instagram, Facebook, pointing out that up to now, nothing has been done.

"Nothing has been done, and things are only getting worse," the official warned.

Lusa attempted to contact the Lisbon  City Council to obtain clarifications, but the authority did not respond.

Shooting Suspect Arrested in Utah

I am relieved that the FBI and Utah police have arrested the man they believe assassinated Charlie Kirk. His name is Tyler Robinson (22), a resident of Utah.

All we know at this point is that Robinson did not like what Kirk stood for. Whether there was a specific issue that allegedly drove him to commit murder or just a wide combination of issues that Kirk had addressed or talked about is not clear. It seems safe to assume that it was an act motivated by political issues and that Kirk died because of his stated beliefs. There may be more to this, something more specific, that we will learn in the coming days.

The work of the FBI and Utah authorities was outstanding in apprehending this man in less than two days. It appears that the release of the images of Robinson that were shown to the public yesterday was instrumental in his identification, apparently thanks to Robinson's own family members in turning him in.

I still have a lot of thoughts on this tragedy, but I will wait till we know something more as to specific motives or specific issues that led to this murder.

Charlie Kirk Assassinated

I am deeply shaken by the murder of Charlie Kirk today at Utah Valley College where he was speaking at an event. Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, established to defend conservative voices on college campuses, was one of the brightest conservative spokesmen in the country. His events usually featured him opening himself up to questions from students, especially his critics, about a wide range of issues. He was someone I greatly admired.

The shooter is not yet in custody, and at this point, we don't know the identity or the particular issue that drove this act. When more becomes known, I will have much more to say about this tragic event.

How many times have we witnessed conservative or pro-Israel speakers speaking on college campuses and being subjected to loud protests, disruptions, and even violent and destructive behavior by students and others on the far left? For years, we have been warning our universities that a tragedy was going to happen on one of our campuses if they didn't get their act together and protect all who were on campus.

Now this.

Germany: Woman Stabbed to Death in Magdeburg-Syrian Charged

Hat tip Gates of Vienna

Lubeckerstrasse, Magdeburg

On September 7, in the German city of Magdeburg, a 59-year-old Syrian woman was chased down on the street and stabbed to death by a knife-wielding man. When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman deceased and her attacker seriously injured by apparently self-inflicted stab wounds. The suspect, a 57-year-old Syrian man, was rushed to a hospital where he remains in serious condition. It is believed that the victim and her attacker had previously been in a relationship and living in the Magdeburg area. As yet, police do not know the motive for the crime.

Magdeburg (Saxony-Anhalt)- Cafes, Grills, beer gardens- On the weekend, Lubecker Street pulsates. Families stroll, old and young enjoy the sun, and everything seems peaceful. But on this Sunday, a violent act destroys the idyll.

A woman (59) was being chased shortly after noon by a knife-wielding attacker down the street. Witnesses heard screams. The victim apparently escaped through the entrance to an office building, which also houses a fitness studio. But the perpetrator follows her into the stairwell and repeatedly stabs her there.

Caption: A pool of blood from the attacker can be seen in front of the entrance.

Perpetrator injures himself

Police spokesman Stefan Brodtrueck: "Despite immediate rescue measures initiated, the victim died at the scene." Paramedics and emergency doctors also had to care for the attacker. "The suspect was found at the scene with serious injuries by police officers who had been called, and he was provisionally arrested.

According to BILD's information, the suspect reportedly inflicted the injuries upon himself. Both the perpetrator and the victim are Syrian citizens who were living in the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt.

The stabber was taken to the Magdeburg City Clinic under police guard. As the doctors there work to save his life, Magdeburg police officers closed off the area around Lubecker Street and Fabriken Street.

Caption: Officers in white protective suits carried evidentiary material secured from the crime scene to their vehicle.

In addition to dog handlers, the  State Police crime scene group, stationed only a few hundred meters away, was deployed. Police spokesman Brodtrueck confirms:  "A police helicopter was also temporarily deployed."

Victim was ex-girlfriend

The investigation at the scene of the crime lasted into the evening hours. In addition to securing evidence, Squad II ( murder, sexual crimes) investigators are looking into possible perpetrator-victim relations and trying to explain the motive for the act. On Sunday, a police spokesperson said: "The reasons for the act are still not clear."

Then on Monday, came the investigative update from the police: The woman and the Syrian (57) were earlier reportedly a couple. The circumstances of the act, however, remain unclear. Witnesses confirm, however, that the man inflicted the injuries himself with a stabbing instrument.

Caption: Under police guard, the Syrian suspect was transported to the Magdeburg State Hospital.

The investigation against the 57-year-old will be carried out under the charge of manslaughter. The State Prosecutor's Office in Magdeburg expects the preliminary autopsy results on Monday.

Afterward, it will be decided whether a custody order will be requested. It will also be decided as to his continued detention in a detention facility or prison hospital. According to the State Prosecutor's Office, on Monday, the man was still in the clinic, seriously injured.

Italy: Lega Exposes Illegal Mosques in Rome

Rome
-Rmx News

On September 4, the Italian Lega party, which strongly opposes mass migration into Italy, as well as the growing Islamization of the country, held a conference in Rome to address the issue of illegal, clandestine mosques operating in the city without authorization, a problem that seems to be ignored by Rome's mayor, Roberto Gualtieri. Lega intends to use public access documents to help identify mosques that are operating clandestinely.

We have previously reported on this problem in Milan, Italy's second-largest city, where illegal places of Islamic prayer have been set up in basements of apartment buildings in the city, without anybody's permission, and to the great annoyance of residents who see people arriving at all hours of the day to conduct prayers.

The article below from Il Tempo by Giulia Sorrentino is translated by Fousesquawk.

Rome-The capital of Islam

The Lega (The League) uncovers the first 17 illegal mosques

By Giulia Sorrentino, September 6, 2025

The list has come out of alleged illegal mosques in the capital, compiled by Lega (party), which has decided to chart all of the illegal Islamic centers identifying 17 through public access measures  It is not just that of Centocelle, where work has been stopped and sealed off, but also several areas of the capital that involve quarters like Magliana, Torpignatarra, Esquilino, and many others.

Because there are too many fake cultural centers behind which are actual places of worship that are not authorized and whose urban impact is becoming a burden for the citizens, who are asking for security and serious regulation. And it is for this that on Thursday, a "Mosques, urban legality, and transparency" conference was held, promoted by the Lega and with the participation of Euro Deputies, Anna Maria Cisint, Susanna Ceccardi, and Silvia Sardone, as well as (Rome) counselors Fabrizio Santori. Maurizio Politi, Antonio Giammusso, and the national representative for Relations with the Foreign Community, Souad Sbai.

"We are here to say clearly that this is all unacceptable. As mayor of Monfalcone, I closed three illegal mosques, and today, as a European Parliament Deputy, I have constructed an administrative system that backs the mayors to the wall, too often from the left, who pretend not to see the abuses because they concern the Islamic communities," Cisint said. She then emphasized how public access measures are concrete measures useful to "force the mayors to 'self-report' and thus, close tbe illegal mosques. A system that we are implementing throughout Italy to force the mayors to assume their own responsibilities. And it is exactly what I have just done in Padua, and that we are now applying also to the Rome municipalities."

Underlining the importance of this battle is the Lega vice secretary, Silvia Sardone: "The topic of the spread of illegal mosques is a problem increasingly evident, to which we cannot close our eyes. We believe that the fight against Islamization and Islamism, given the growing dangers connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, is the battle of the coming decades. We are, with pride, following what Oriana Fallaci said when she was talking about Eurabia."

In fact, Fabrizio Santori, Lega group leader in the Rome Assembly, explained the numerous access requests for documents presented, aimed at verifying the judicial and urban status of the properties. "Rome is today the city with the largest number of illegal Islamic centers in Italy. We need transparency, clarity, and control. The phenomenon is out of control."

And, in fact, also Souad Sbai, director of the Lega for relations with the foreign communities, has emphasized the need to bring clarity because, " these centers are not prayer spaces, but rather instruments of Islamist penetration. It's time to say, enough, demand clear rules, and take care of the citizens, Italians and foreigners, who really want to integrate". Because as Susanna Ceccardi herself said, there is a total absence of controls: "Mayor (Roberto) Gualtieri must assume his responsibilities". There are too many irregularities, an exorbitant number of unauthorized places of worship, to which the Lega has decided to say enough with a method that will become a system to chart Rome and then all the other hotbeds of Islamic fundamentalism present in Italy.

Europe's Problem with Israel

This article first appeared in New English Review.

Pedro Sanchez

Spain has just announced it is recalling its ambassador to Israel back home for consultations. This is reportedly in response to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, referring to the Spanish government as "anti-Semitic" and "corrupt".  In addition, Israel has banned entry to two Spanish cabinet members. All this comes in the middle of a diplomatic crisis between the two countries due to the fighting in Gaza. Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, has called it a "genocide" (against the Palestinians) while announcing sanctions against Israel. Not surprisingly, Hamas has greeted the Spanish actions with great approval.

This, of course, follows the actions of France and Britain in calling for the recognition of a Palestinian state. More recently, Belgium has jumped on the bandwagon with its own plans to recognize "the State of Palestine". It matters little to them that a nation called Palestine has never existed. They might as well recognize the lost city of Atlantis as a state.

My reaction is that these countries should worry about their own problems, which include riotous mobs taking to the streets with their Palestinian flags in support of the terrorist organization of Hamas. And that is just part of the problem. All of these countries, as well as others in Europe, are dealing with millions of so-called asylum-seekers, refugees, and illegal migrants who are wreaking havoc on the streets of their cities, committing violent crimes, such as robberies, rapes, and murders. And then there is the problem of terror attacks by young Muslim men, the attacks against churches and synagogues, and the downright hunting down of Jews on the streets. The fact is that innocent people are dying every day in Europe from these attacks, both random and targeted. Rapes and bombings have now become commonplace. Returning to Spain, they are plagued by migrants storming their borders in Melilla and Ceuta by the hundreds at a time. The Spanish people are being victimized every day by these illegal migrants. Yet, their prime minister is focused on Israel.

So here we have Europe wringing its hands and worrying about "genocide" in Gaza. The word is inaccurate and springs from the lies that Hamas feeds to the all-too-receptive foreign press. If Israel intended to commit genocide against the Gazans, it would have been done within weeks of the barbaric attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

If Israel were committing genocide in Gaza, why are they allowing food convoys into Gaza, most of which have been hijacked by Hamas?

If Israel were committing genocide, why do they go to great lengths to prevent civilian casualties, even going so far as to alert people in buildings that they need to evacuate because the building is going to be bombed? And why are they striking these sites in the first place?  Because they are used by Hamas as military operations centers. The bloodthirsty terrorists of Hamas deliberately insert themselves within their own civilian population, knowing that if Israel strikes their location, they can show dead civilian bodies to the world. (Sometimes after being photographed by Hamas, these dead bodies get up and walk away.)

It seems that much of the world, after expressing the appropriate shock and condemnation of October 7, 2023, wasted no time in going back to the Palestinian side. In universities on both sides of the Atlantic, the pro-Hamas students and professors immediately began demonstrating against Israel even before Israel struck back.

Yes, October 7 is a distant memory.

My opinion is that these European countries are kowtowing to the restive pro-Hamas mobs on their streets. They are also afraid of all the other aforementioned newcomers who are prepared to go out and randomly kill people, heretofore for the sake of Allah, but now in the name of Palestine as well.

But what about Europe's Jews, who dare not walk the streets of the cities in Jewish garb? Don't they count? Indeed, every time a Jew is murdered in France, the president and interior minister rush to the microphones to condemn the latest horrendous act. Yet, what do they do to stop such killers from entering their country? What are they doing to remove these people? Not much. After all, Morocco, Tunisia, and other places, from where these killers come, often refuse to take them back. So what to do?

As for the Jews, who are leaving Europe in droves, it seems they are not all that important as an "interest group". All they can do is ask the government for more protection. After all, they are not going to riot in the streets, burn cars, attack churches, attack cops, or bomb buildings to get what they want. They are not numerous enough to count in elections. In that vein, it was just a few years ago that in Malmö, Sweden, a place now notorious for immigrant crime and anti-Semitism, the then mayor, Ilmar Reepalu, told the city's Jews that if they felt persecuted because they supported Israel, they could leave. (I am paraphrasing). Many indeed left.

To be fair, our own country has its share of crazies and feckless politicians who share the same feelings as the feckless leaders in Madrid, Brussels, Paris, and London-not to mention other European capitals. But we do have a president and administration that is on Israel's side, regardless of what the European governments do.

If European leaders think that by siding with Hamas, they are going to buy peace in their own countries, they are totally mistaken. They have a serious existential problem on their hands, one that will not be cured by throwing Israel under the bus.
