Germany: Vandals Hang Palestinian Flag in Front of Reichstag

-Heute

This morning, a 22-year-old man climbed the flagpole in front of the Reichstag building in Berlin, threw down the German flag to the ground and raised the Palestinian flag in its place. On the ground, two of his accomplices filmed his action. They were detained and firemen restored the German flag to its rightful place and the Palestinian flag to its rightful place, which hopefully was in the nearest garbage can. Apparently, the two accomplices were released, but the pole climber has been turned over to State Security on charges of mopery and defaming the State and its symbols.

The Austrian news outlet, Heute is reporting that German police are stating only that the three little rascals are Germans "without a recognizable migration background", whatever that means.

The below article from the Munich daily, Sueddeutsche Zeitung is translated by Fousesquawk.

Palestinian flag hung in front of Reichstag- Klöckner demands more protection

November 8, 2026

A 22-year-old switched the German flag for a Palestinian flag. Bundestag President Klöckner reacted by demanding more protection for the Bundestag. Thus far, hardly any money from the special fund has been drawn for schools and day care centers.

A man hung the Palestinian flag in front of the Reichstag- Klöckner demands more protection

A man replaced the German flag with the Palestinian flag in front of the Reichstag building. The 22-year-old climbed the flagpole on Sunday morning and threw the German flag to the ground. The Palestinian flag briefly flew until the fire brigade removed it at noon.

According to a police report, the man climbed the pole with a climbing harness and remained at the top for about an hour. Two men, ages 20 and 32 supported him from the ground and filmed the action. The group, "Peacefully against genocide" took responsibility for the action in the morning.  It is about, "civil society solidarity with the people in Palestine," according to an internet statement.

All three men were temporarily in police custody. The two accomplices on the ground were sent off and have already been released, according to police. The climber is reportedly being turned over to State Security. State Security is now investigating, among other things, suspicion of defamation of the State and its symbols. The flag on the Platz der Republik was raised on the night on October 2-3, 1990, to celebrate the reunification.

In response to the incident, Bundestag President Julia Klöckner demanded more protection for the Bundestag. She cannot accept, "that such a thing is possible in the German Parliament," Klöckner told Bild-Zeitung. It must be ensured that Parliament, "does not degenerate into a backdrop of activism of any kind." For the protection of Parliament, the direct surroundings of the Reichstag building are also relevant: "In this, the State of Berlin is also in question." Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) calls it, "an act of absolute lack of respect". It is clear, "that this is a planned action by leftist troublemakers."
