A 22-year-old Syrian home care worker in Örebro, Sweden is charged with physically and verbally abusing elderly patients whom he was supposed to be caring for. The suspect, Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh, allegedly videotaped himself torturing prisoners while shouting, "Allahu akhbar" at them. Even while under suspension, the agency that hired him allowed him to return to work after only a 30-day suspension.

Domestic: A home care service worker in Örebro made videos as he tortured, humiliated, and threatened a long line of elderly Swedes. In the video clips, he calls them, among other things, "f-ing whore" in Arabic and shouts, "Alalhu akhbar" right in the ears of an elderly man. In spite of the police investigation, he was allowed to continue working in home care services. "Since we don't know more about the investigation, we can't suspend him more than one month," says the unit manager.

22-year-old Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh came to Sweden during the asylum crisis of 2015, Samnytt writes.

Now he stands accused, suspected of having subjected a large number of elderly Swedes to serious abuse.

Almasalmeh has already been previously convicted of, along with other Arabs, having humiliated, threatened with a pistol, and brutally abused Swedish Epa*-youths in Värmland.

Despite that, he got a job in home care services in Örebro, which allowed him to continue even after the current police investigation began.

According to the prosecutor, there are 13 claimants, after two of the victims died during the period of investigation. The oldest is 99 years old.

Footage secured by police shows how the 22-year-old repeatedly filmed situations where elderly Swedes were subjected to humiliating treatment. In one case, he targeted a 90-year-old woman.

"You look like a monkey, " he says in Arabic.

He continues to direct insults and threats at the elderly person.

"Oh, you whore. I swear I will curse you," he says.

"Eat shit, Whore!"

"I swear to Allah, I will let you freeze!"

Another clip shows an elderly man lying in his bed. Almasalmeh films him up close, aiming at his face. At the same time, he says in Arabic:

"How can we tell how it is with this bastard? Is he alive or dead? I swear to Allah I don't know (sighs). Are you here? (Pats the old man), are you here?

In another case, an elderly man is showered with ice-cold water after one can hear that he is "a son of a whore".

"I swear to Allah I will let you freeze!" Almasalmeh can be heard telling the old man.

Allahu akhbar torture

In another video, the suspect makes a hand movement in front of an elderly man, which, according to the preliminary investigation, "is similar to the movement for pulling a trigger on a weapon."

"Goodbye, (the Swedish man's name)", he says immediately afterward.

One clip shows an elderly man sitting in the kitchen wearing headphones. Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh uses a microphone connected to the headphones.

"Allahu akhbar!" he screams again and again into the microphone, and the sound goes directly into the ears of the elderly man.

The phrase, "Allahu akhbar" also appears in other films in similar situations.

Allowed to return

Although the suspicions were known for a period of time, the 22-year-old was allowed to return to work on January 2 after a short suspension, according to Samnytt.

"Since we don't know more about the investigation, we cannot suspend him more than one month," states the Örebro Municipal unit chief, Maid Prnjavorac, in an interview.

Prnjavorac referred to the activities chief, Sahra Strandberg, for comments. She, in turn, referred to Annika Roman, municipal area chief for elderly care, but she has not answered Samnytt.

Abdulrahman Al Khleef Almasalmeh continued to work until he was finally arrested later in January and subsequently remanded to custody.

He denies the crime.
