Last night, police arrested a 22-year-old man who is suspected of a serious sex offense in the Weesperzijde in Amsterdam. A woman was attacked and seriously abused sexually there. But the police cannot yet say if there is a connection between the cases.

A police arrest team arrested the suspect at a Central Agency for Reception of Asylum-Seekers (COA) location in Amsterdam. He is a man without a fixed abode or place to stay. Police declined to state his nationality.

Approached by an unknown man

He is suspected of a serious sexual crime last Friday in the Weesperzijde neighborhood. While walking along the water, a woman was approached by an unknown man and assaulted. That happened around 00:30 am.

The victim was beaten and seriously abused sexually. The suspect fled in the direction of the city center.

Police initiated a large-scale investigation and tracked down the suspect with the aid of camera images in the area.

Death of 17-year-old in Duivendrecht

On Wednesday morning, 17-year-old Lisa from Abcoude was found dead in Duivendrecht. She herself called the police because she was being followed by a man who was on a bicycle. The Holterbergweg, where she was found, lies some 5 kilometers from Weesperzijde.
