Germany: American Good Samaritan Stabbed on Dresden Streetcar

Dresden

It was what has now become an all-too-familiar scene in Germany these days. Late at night this past weekend, young women were being harassed by a group of young Arab men on a streetcar in Dresden, arguably Germany's most beautiful city. A young American man did what most American men would do in such a situation. He intervened on behalf of the women, at which point, he was beaten by one of the Arabs. Before it was over, another Arab man slashed the victim with a knife, causing several cuts to the face as both men fled. The incident has even led to headlines from the American press.

One of the men, who apparently was not the stabber but rather the first suspect who initiated the fight, was captured a short distance away. However, the on-duty prosecutor ordered his release on grounds described below. That suspect is identified as a Syrian man, Majd A., who has a previous record for robbery and assault.

So the police are now searching for the stabber, and both men are under investigation for aggravated assault.

As an aside, when I was a young US soldier stationed in Germany, I happened to intervene on a couple of occasions when I witnessed someone getting beaten in public. Back then, the people involved were German. Now, it is a different situation in Germany. Germans, who typically don't walk around with guns or knives, know that these young migrants and "asylum-seekers" in Germany, millions that former chancellor Angela Merkel allowed in during the Syrian civil war, are armed with knives or guns that they will not hesitate to use.  You literally take your life in your hands now when you get involved with these thugs from the Middle East, Afghanistan, and other hellholes. At least in our country, we have the Second Amendment.

Dresden-The knife attack on an American (21) on a Dresden streetcar has caused horror in his homeland. "Bloody hell" (literally translated: "Bloody Hell", meaning something like "Damn it" in German), the New York Post writes in the headline on the bloody crime.

It happened early Sunday morning around 12:25 am, on Streetcar Line 7 from Weixdorf to Pennrich  (Dresden). At the streetcar stop at the well-known Goldenen Reiter, according to police, two men from a group were harassing female passengers.

Passenger tried to protect the women

Police spokesman Lukas Reumund (48) told BILD: "A 21-year-old US citizen intervened and, in the ensuing altercation, was injured by one of the perpetrators with a knife. The two perpetrators then fled from the crime scene." The seriously injured US citizen was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Alerted, police were able to arrest one of the two suspects 700 meters farther on at another stop a little later. The 21-year-old, according to BILD's information, is named Majd A., according to police, a Syrian citizen who had fled with a rental scooter. Reumond: "We are investigating him and the as-yet-unknown person for serious bodily injury, among other things."

Victim suffered a cut to his face

After the incident, there were bloodstains visible on the streetcar, and tissues on the floor with which helpers had tried to stop the bleeding. Police spokesman Thomas Geithner (51) told BILD: "The US citizen was injured with several cuts with a knife." Initially, it was reported that there was one cut. His life was not in danger.

Accomplice has been released

According to BILD's information, Majd A. is not the stabber; the suspect who escaped caused the serious injuries. (Majd) A., according to BILD's information, initially attacked the US citizen with punches. The Syrian, who fled the scene on an E-scooter, is (previously) known to police for dangerous bodily injury, robbery, and unlawful entry.

Police spokesman Geithner: "He was temporarily arrested and, through a decision by the state prosecutor's office, was released".

How the senior state prosecutor explains the release

Senior State Prosecutor Juergen Schmidt (50) explains in a response to BILD's inquiry: "After an evaluation by the on-duty state prosecutor, there were insufficient grounds (to keep him) in custody. The  knife attack cannot be attributed to him."

The prosecutors, according to BILD's information, saw no chance of obtaining a custody order from the investigating judge. Despite his leaving the scene of the crime, there was no risk of flight, obstruction, or repeat offense. Majd A. has a fixed residence.

Stabber reportedly came back after fight

As BILD learned, there was initially an argument, by which, the US citizen was allegedly beaten by Majd A. (21). The second suspect was reportedly also involved.

Subsequently, the second suspect reportedly came back onto the streetcar and caused the serious injuries. This is considered an isolated incident, even though both men are being investigated.

How witnesses can report to police

The footage from the streetcar surveillance camera has now been secured. However, the police are still searching for witnesses to the crime-especially the several passengers on the streetcar, who can give information on the incident.

The weapon disappeared, and the second suspect is still on the run. Police spokesman Thomas Geithner: "We are searching for him at full speed. We expect to be able to identify him soon." Dresden Police are taking tips about the subject being sought at telephone number 0351/483 22 33.
