The below article from today's Nieuwsblad (Belgium) is translated from Dutch by Fousesquawk. It contains a video of the fight.

The stabbing occurred within a larger fight and must have happened around 17:30. Everything happened at the rest stop on the Kerk (Church) Street in Lommel. Emergency services, including ambulances and a MUG team (Mobile medical unit), came immediately to the scene and provided first aid to the victims. It was initially reported that two people were injured and 6 arrests were carried out, but that figure has been adjusted by  Acting Mayor Peter Vanderkrieken (CD&V party) to 4 injured and 8 arrests.

Two of the injured are in serious condition and were taken to the Pelt hospital. It is not clear if they are also in life-threatening condition. The other two suffered light wounds.

Learning a lesson

Peter Vanderkrieken (CD&V) also said that it was a fight between a group of Afghans. "There were about 20, and they were fighting. Most of them are not from here, but came to Lommel because they wanted to attack a countryman who was staying at Fedasil (Refugee reception agency) in Lommel."

The local police from Lommel were the first to arrive at the scene and alerted the Limburg Prosecutor's Office. The exact circumstances are being investigated further. The area around the incident was closed off with police tape, and a forensic lab team was called in to search for evidence and make an assessment. Further arrests are not ruled out.

The big fight was filmed and caused a lot of consternation for the many witnesses. "The police, fortunately, were able to intervene quickly, and people from Fedasil also came to the scene to mediate," said Peter Vanderkrieken. The (mayor) would not communicate any further on the case and is letting the police and Public Prosecutor's Office do their jobs.
