CNN host Jake Tapper has recently come out with his "blockbuster" book, accusing the Biden White House inner circle of misleading the American public (and the press) about former President Biden's cognitive decline. We also have former host of NBC's Meet the Press, Chuck Todd, stating in his podcast discussion with journalist Mark Leibovich that White House insiders, desperate to jump ship on Biden during the 2024 campaign, deliberately exposed him to a presidential debate with Donald Trump in June, hoping that would give the Democrats enough time to put forth another candidate (Kamala Harris). Todd, as he did in April, refused to lay any blame on the press for going along with the cover-up. Todd also attacked Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for refusing to admit the truth, just as he did in May while appearing on CNN. For Chuck Todd, it was solely the Democrats around Biden who hid the truth from the public, not the news media. Anybody who says different is spreading right-wing disinformation.
Going back to the fateful debate between Trump and Biden, I vividly recall watching it and thinking as it progressed that while Biden was performing predictably awful, I fully expected the post-debate analysis on Fox, CNN, and MSNBC to follow the usual partisan lines. Fox would point out Biden's deficiencies (which were real and there for the world to see) while the other network talking heads would claim that Biden was victorious, that he "knocked it out of the park", and would point out key moments where Biden had made Trump look foolish, etc. etc. etc.
Instead, the mainstream networks, as soon as it was over, acted like they were shocked that Biden had looked so bad, and that, perhaps, he was indeed going downhill cognitively. It was virtually unanimous. The mainstream media basically reacted the same as Fox. The only difference was that Fox had been saying it for years. In fact, anybody with half a brain had seen the decline in Biden during the 2020 campaign when his team virtually confined his public appearances to his basement. Did anybody really need these "revelations" from the mainstream media immediately following the 2024 debate? The entire world had been watching Biden decline for 4 years while the Democrats and the media were complimenting the emperor's new clothes.
My impression watching the post-debate analysis that evening was that it was as if someone in the DNC had texted all the networks halfway through the debate that it was time to jump ship and go to Plan B (Kamala Harris), and the dutiful media followed the order to a T. While I don't believe in conspiracy theories, if you want one, there it is. Not credible? Perhaps, but what is also not credible is so-called journalists like Jake Tapper and Chuck Todd coming forward after all these months and pointing fingers at others. Not that I am defending or absolving the DNC, Schumer, or White House insiders, but I find it incredibly hypocritical for Tapper and Todd to play the role of whistleblowers, for lack of a better word, while all along, they were part of this total denial of what was so obvious.
When did they ever come out and say (prior to the debate) that Biden was clearly in cognitive decline and should drop out of the race? Remember back in October 2020 when Tapper took Lara Trump to task on TV when she mocked the explanation about Biden's supposed stuttering issue? Stuttering! We have been watching Biden in Washington for 5 decades. Did anybody detect any stuttering? Biden has consistently been wrong over his political career, but he wasn't senile until recent years. Anybody who has watched him over the decades could see the decline. If he ever suffered from stuttering in his younger years, it has not been a factor in his cognitive decline.
While I am happy that people like Todd and Tapper are exposing the Democrat leaders and Biden White House insiders for what they are, they refuse to own up to their own roles in this fraud conducted against the American people. They are acting like the proverbial rats jumping off the sinking ship. The fact remains that the mainstream media (with the notable exception of Fox and conservative talk radio) refused to report or admit that the country-and the world- had a major problem on their hands. We had a president who was drifting into senility while the world was burning. All the while, we had a media so desperate to defeat Donald Trump that they spent 4 years ignoring the fact that the emperor had no clothes.
