Milan Hostage Incident

Hat tip Vlad Tepes and Gates of Vienna. Translation by Fousesquawk.

Yesterday, we posted a video (without sub-titles) of a hostage situation in the Duomo Cathedral of Milan. Today, we are posting the video with Engish sub-titles as police negotiate with an Egyptian hostage-taker and eventually overpower him, saving the hostage's life.

Much of the audio is unintelligible due to several people talking over each other, poor sound quality, and the fact that the suspect speaks poor Italian. Most of the sub-titles are of the policeman closest to the video camera, whose voice is clear, and that of the policewoman.

Today's Il Giornale reports that the suspect's name is Mohamed Zin Elaabdin Elhosary Mahmoud, 26, a native of Egypt with a residence permit in Italy. He has a police record in Italy for theft.
