The Smollett Farce

I suppose people have wasted enough words on Jussie Smollett both after his hoax was revealed and now that the Cook County State Attorney has inexplicably dropped charges. Both Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel and police chief Eddie Johnson are outraged. One thing is for sure: The people who are responsible for dropping charges need to give a full explanation as to their reasoning. If not, an investigation needs to be launched. As it now stands, this really stinks. Smollett will forfeit his $10,000 bond and has done 16 hours community service for Jesse Jackson's outfit. Really?

Normally, defendants forfeit their bail when they fail to show up for court, not when charges are dropped. That's when they get their bail back. The police maintain that the expenses they ran up investigating this case ran into 6 figures. Ten thousand dollars doesn't begin to cover it.

And there are Smollett and his attorneys brazenly insisting that he had told the truth all along. To add injury to insult, the case record has been sealed!

I strongly suspect that some very influential people got involved in this matter, thus, leading to charges being dropped for no explicable reason. It cries out for an investigation.
