The Trump Jr. Meeting Hysteria

Donald Trump Jr.

Last  June, Donald Trump Jr. was alerted via email from an associate that  Natalia Veselnitskayaa Russian lawyer had negative information about Hillary Clinton and wanted to pass it on as a sign of the "Russian government's support for the Trump campaign".  Trump Jr. agreed to meet the lawyer, and on June 16, the meeting took place at Trump Towers in New York. Also present were Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort. Trump Jr. says that he agreed to the meeting as part of what is commonly referred to in politics  as "opposition research." The meeting lasted 20 minutes and ended when the woman had nothing to offer relative to Hillary Clinton. She apparently wanted to talk about the Russian adoption program.Trump Jr. has released the emails (which were about to be released by the NY Times) and agreed to testify before Congress about the meeting. He appeared on Sean Hannity's Fox News show and admitted that if he could do it over, he would have acted differently.

I take that to mean he would have stopped to think that Russia is an adversary country, and that he should have sought legal advice first or perhaps even run it by the FBI.

But I do not see a crime here.

What this does is feed into the Democrat/media narrative that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian efforts to influence the US presidential campaign. Predictably, the Democrats, from Nancy Pelosi to Howard Dean have reacted hysterically. Tim Kaine is throwing the word "treason" around.

Of course, the mainstream media, which is all over this, is loathe to talk about the Hillary Clinton campaign's collusion with Ukrainians, in which a DNC consultant went to the Ukrainian embassy in Washington. CNN briefly addressed it today, but the final verdict was that Ukraine is a friendly country while Russia is an adversary. True enough.

Yet CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the mainstream media are still ignoring the fact that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signed off on giving 20% of our uranium supply to Russia as her foundation accepted millions from people involved in that deal and husband Bill raked in a half a million dollar speaking gig in Moscow as part of the deal.

Today, it has been revealed that Veselnitskaya  was admitted to the US only via intercession by then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch. (Visa matters are handled by the State Department.) She then apparently overstayed her visa. I am no conspiracy theorist, but could this have been a set-up? Right now I'll just say the plot thickens.

I still can't find a Lefty who can say what the specific charge or (crime) is. What is it, specificallly, that Trump et. al. are supposed to have done? Collude? To do what? Was there any single thing that changed the election? If it was anything, it was the general view that Hillary Clinton was untrustworthy. She is blind to conflict of interest issues. She does not know what fiduciary duties are. That is something she did, not the Russians. The Russians didn't talk her into setting up her own network, or lie and obfuscate about its use, or lie outright about it (did not send or receive classified data) or destroy subpoenaed evidence. She did all that on her own. Even in the worst case scenario for Trump, if they assisted in getting what she did out in the open, it is a service to the rest of the country. Unless you can say that keeping all this information secret is a good thing... there is no argument.
