Another School Drops "Crusaders" Mascot

Hat tip Creeping Sharia

First it was Maranatha Baptist College in Wisconsin and Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania who dropped the name "Crusaders"  as their mascot. Now it 's a Christian school in Denver. All because they are afraid of offending Muslims.

My old high school, University High School in Los Angeles, was known as the Warriors when I attended. In the subsequent years, political correctness made them switch to the Wildcats (whatever animal that is). I would argue that a crusader and a warrior can be many things other than the Christians who fought against Muslims in the Crusades and Native American tribes respectfully. However, political correctness and craven appeasement have no sense of reason.

Crusaders is dubious. Warriors could be a lot of things -- depends on the look of the mascot. I don't suppose anyone would want a team called the Cleveland Caucasians or the Kansas City Negroes. On the other hand, to call a team Trojans or Spartans is merely appropriating an identity that happens to be many centuries buried in the ground. I'm not sure one could object to the Dakota Dakotas... although "Sioux" is what enemy tribes told the Lakota were called. Most common use names for Native American tribes are similar. Arapaho don't call themselves that, nor do Cheyenne call themselves that. Most tribes call themselves "The People" and have other names for their neighbors.

All in due proportion and with moderation people.
