"One of the many wise things in the Qur’an is verse 13:11: “God will not change the condition of a people until they change it themselves.”
-Juan Cole

University of Michigan professor Juan Cole is one of the country's most well-known academic apologists for radical Islam. He also runs a blog inexplicably named, "Informed Comment". Naturally, Cole is Johnny-on-the Spot with a predictable reaction to the terrorist attack in San Bernardino. Naturally, it is not Islamic terrorism at fault here; it is the NRA and lack of sufficient gun laws. Cole even quotes the Koran to make his point.

As for that quote in the Koran, the rest of the verse states,

"But when Allah wills a punishment for a people, there is no turning it back; Nor will they find anyone other than Him to protect them."

Sura 13 was recorded during the Medina period of Mohammad's life when he was spreading Islam through war. I would also point out that the Koran said nothing about guns because they didn't exist at that time. I do know of two people, however, who read the Koran: That would be Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik. Who knows? Maybe they were acting out their own interpretation of Sura 13 verse 11.

*Update:

I sent in a comment to Cole's absurd posting. He sent back a preposterous reply doubling down on the workplace violence theme.

“Workplace violence linked to some sort of grievance”
Wanna walk that one back, Juan?

  • Actually the evidence is that Farook was subjected to considerable workplace bullying. If this were something primarily beyond workplace rage, why not hit a target with security implications?
Wow.
