Shura Council of Southern California Condemns Sectarian Violence

Below is the text of an e-mail sent out by the Shura Council of Southern California. Seems they are upset by the Sunni vs Shia violence going on in Iraq. It contains a statement by Muzammil Siddiqi, former president of the Islamic Society of North America and head imam of the Islamic Center of Orange County in Garden Grove, California.

(Garden Grove, June 20, 2014): The Islamic Shura Council of Southern California 
is appalled by the ongoing sectarian barbarism in Iraq and its neighboring 
countries. 

  
"Islam calls for the sanctity of all life and safety of every person. Actions 
that contradict this principle are a sin and a crime in Islam," said Dr. 
Muzammil Siddiqi, Chairman of the Islamic Shura Council. 
  
Military might or political maneuvering cannot repair the colossal failure of 
human conscience but a changed heart that feels for a fellow human being can. 
The blessed month of Ramadan offers that opportunity for Muslims of all 
persuasions to reflect, heal and restore themselves and their environments. 
  
The Islamic Shura Council calls upon the Masajid and Imams to play an active 
role in helping their respective congregations and communities in reaffirming 
mutual respect as best expressed in this Muslim Code of Honor. 
  
Among the code's guidelines are banning the practice of takfir, judging other 
Muslims as nonbelievers, and forbidding hateful speech about the beliefs and 
revered figures of all branches of Islam. We call on all communities to embrace 
this model of working together for mutual respect and harmony and we ask God, 
the Most Merciful, to grant us the wisdom to work for it.

Comments:

1 First of all, Siddiqi is a little late to the game since Sunnis and Shia have been fighting and killing each other ever since the death of the Prophet 

Muhammad in the 7th century. It is a sectarian war over who should have been Muhammad's rightful successor. This is hardly anything new.

2 Not one word about the on-going persecution, killing, rape, torture and arrests of Christians from one end of the Islamic world to the other. Not a 

word about all the Christian churches being burned. 

Not a word about the on-going sectarian persecution of the Baha'i in Iran.

3 Siddiqi's Garden Grove mosque has spawned at least two Jihadists, the fugitive terrorist Adam Gadahn 

and Sinh Vinh Ngo Nguyen. The latter was arrested by FBI agents as he was in the process of leaving the

country to join overseas terrorists. A Garden Grove resident, He was a frequent visitor to the Garden Grove mosque. 

Let's stop the hypocrisy, shall we?
