"Open " Discussion on Israel Boycott

Hat tip Dusty

This event sort of fell through the cracks on my part, but I am posting this news after the fact. This concerns what was billed as an "open" discussion on the boycott Israel question by some outfit called the American Studies Association.

Here is a report on the conference from JTA dated two days ago.

http://www.jta.org/2013/11/26/news-opinion/united-states/at-american-studies-association-boycotting-israel-finds-wide-favor

"A number of the speakers, particularly Palestinians, said the American Studies Association and the field it represents is a refuge from what they describe as an American society that is uninterested in their viewpoint."

Quite right, as Ben White might say. Once you are removed from university campuses, the large majority of the American people could less about the Palestinians. A large part of it might have to do with acts of terrorism over the past 40 or so years and dancing in the streets on 9-11.

And who is Ben White, you ask?

You don't wanna know.

At any rate, these academic dreamers and friends of the Palestinians can talk all they want about boycotting Israel. It ain't happening.

Here are a few of the innovations that came out of Israel just LAST WEEK alone. Let's boycott them!

In Medicine alone:

Tel Aviv University researchers have succeeded in isolating a protein known as Gene 0.4 that kills bacteria. In what is a first step toward developing a substitute for antibiotics, the protein prevents bacteria from dividing, thus destroying them and combating infections.

The remarkable SAGIV device invented by Hebrew University students that provides 100% accurate insertion of intravenous tubes into a person’s veins.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem has signed a research agreement with Philadelphia’s Children’s Hospital and Drexel University to advance pediatric medicine.

Tel Aviv University researchers have found a way to control overactive eosinophil white blood cells - a disorder that can lead to allergies and autoimmune diseases. In lab tests they have located and regulated the two cell receptors PIR-B and PIR-A that protect or shut down the oesinophils.

For those suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) Israel’s Discover Medical has developed a less-intrusive CPAP mask to help them breathe at night. It is fitted like a boxer’s mouth guard and also requires less air pressure from the CPAP machine.

In Science and Technology alone:

Ben Gurion University scientists have developed a revolutionary method for producing alternative liquid fuel from two of the most common substances on earth, hydrogen and carbon dioxide.

Israel’s BT9 has enhanced its Xsense automated data collection and analytics system for the cold supply chain. The range of products monitored by the sensors now include meat and poultry, fish and seafood, dairy, ice-cream, chocolate, snacks and medicines.

Israel’s HUHA team devised a solution to preventing bicycle theft that is only slightly larger than a plastic coca cola cap. The Cricket is a silent alarm that uses bluetooth technology to alert smart phone users if anyone touches their bicycle.

Israel’s Energy Industries is to construct a plant in Kumasi, Ghana’s second largest city, to create electric power from natural gas extracted from a large landfill. Test drills will determine the amount of Methane gas that can be obtained from it.

A new Israeli start-up, Adallom aims to detect and prevent advanced computer attacks from cyber criminals inside or outside a company. Adallom monitors and interprets user activities and builds up a “profile” for each user. In this way it can determine suspicious behavior and alert management.

I've just pick out a few of the highlights of Israeli developments they would like to boycott... now how many of the Palestinian "academics" would supply in their stead?

A refuge from a society that is generally uninterested in their viewpoint... Generally a refuge is a place of safety from direct attack, not a place to find someone who will listen to you. It is in the nature of such a "refuge" that you will accomplish nothing hanging out there. If you want America to boycott Israel, you have to go out and convince all those indifferent people to support you. If they don't, there won't be any boycott. They may have reasons of their own that are not years. Such is life.
