Why Would CAIR Run From a Debate With Robert Spencer?

Hat tip Jihad Watch

With a public debate scheduled in Michigan with a Muslim representative, Robert Spencer is asking in the below article why the Michigan chapter of CAIR would urge their followers to stay away.

To me, this points to a central issue. Islamic leaders and CAIR-type organizations prefer to be involved in inter-faith events where they can pour out all the talk of peace and love. Yes, they often answer questions, but the format is rarely conducive to give and take with follow-up questions. They know their talking points, and they know the obvious questions they will receive. To those they have their canned answers.  But if you can engage in follow up and debate, they know that their lies have very short legs and cannot survive the persistent questioning. In a debate with an expert like Spencer, Mr Walid of CAIR knows that Spencer will win. Walid also knows that he himself could not win an open debate with Spencer. None of them can because they do not have the truth on their side.
