Zaid Shakir the Mentor

 Zaid Shakir (Photo-Radical Islam)

Ryan Mauro of Radical Islam blog has posted the below-linked article on Zaid Shakir, founder of the Zaytuna Institute at the University of California at Berkeley. Shakir has been featured here at Fousesquawk in the past as an associate of UC Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian. In the below post, Mauro describes a sermon Shakir reportedly gave in 1992 and posts an audio of said sermom. Mauro also links other reported statements by Shakir.

Most recently, I mentioned Shakir in passing while reporting on the December 15 Muslim Public Affairs Council convention in Pasadena hosted by Pastor Ed Bacon and the All Saints Episcopalian Church. One of the young speakers at this event was a convert to Islam named Dustin Craun, who told the audience that he had recently re-located to the Bay Area so he could be "mentored" by Shakir.

A lot of people tried to warn Pastor Bacon of the dubious nature of MPAC, but he held a press conference and condemned them as bigots. Perhaps Pastor Bacon would like to research the history of Shakir's comments as reported by Mauro in the above post. One of the speakers at his church is being mentored by Shakir.
