A Sick Joke in Belgium

Hat tip Joods Actueel (Belgium)

The below report via Joods Actueel in Belgium describes a fake announcement heard on a train from Brussels to Namen on May 3.

http://joodsactueel.be/2012/05/03/joden-verzocht-om-uit-te-stappen-op-trein-brussel-namen/

Translation:

Passagiers geschokt door treinaankondiging “Welkom op de trein naar Auschwitz, Joden uitstappen”

(Passengers shocked by train announcement: 'Welcome aboard the train to Auschwitz. Jews get off.')

"Commotie vandaag op de trein van 16:50 van Brussel naar Namen. Via het omroepsysteem krijgen de passagiers plots volgende mededeling te horen in het Frans: “Welkom op deze trein met bestemming Auschwitz, alle Joden worden verzocht om uit te stappen op de volgende stopplaats, station Buchenwald”.

Commotion today on the 16:50 train from Brussels to Namen. Via the address system, the passengers suddenly heard the following message in French:

"Welcome aboard this train with destination Auschwitz, all Jews are requested to get off at the next stop, staion Buchenwald.."

The next paragraphs describe a statement by one passenger that she could not believe what she was hearing, and that the other passengers were also shocked. The conductor subsequently came on the address system and apologized.

The rail authorities state that the culprit is unknown and that apparently, someone gained access to the cabin where the address system was located and unattended.

There is nothing funny about this. This is sick. It is indicative of how Jews are being treated in many parts of Europe today.

What's the trans-Atlantic world significant news here? That Belgium has juvenile delinquents (at least one)? Who'd a thunk it?

Food for Findalis paranoia.
On our way back from Belgium in December we picked up two young hitch hiking Belgians, they spoke English fluently, had travelled all over the world, and listened very intently to part of my backround story, including the history of my family. They couldn't even relate to Hitler and the Nazis anymore, and told me that most Americans they meet don't even know where Belgium is located. Young people today have other things to worry about then anti-semitism and jokes from some idiot. Your blog is getting so boring.

Than why do you punish yourself, Ingrid?

Ingrid is doing you a favor Gary, no matter what the cost in pain to herself. She is concerned for your immortal soul, and recognizes that you need to hear what you sound like to people outside your immediate fan club.

Besides, like your junior high school English teacher, she knows you could do so much better if you made an effort.

Gary, I don't read your blog anymore because Findalis makes me sick.
I travel a lot, I just went to Spain, I make it a point to talk to young people whenever I get a chance. Most young Europeans love to speak English and do it real well, and they love most things American. They mix with other races and religions without any prejudism.
There will always be people who don't like others for whatever reason, but I don't like Findalis because she is full of hate and misinformation.
I would like you to check out my friend Geoffrey S. Cahn on "youtube". He does more for the understanding between German and Jewish youth than many others who could, but instead, like you, continue to publish pictures on your blog of nazis, which does not make you look like a friend of Germany.
Germans are not anti semitic, they just want to be able to voice an opinion even if it is anti Israel, without being called anti semitic.
The young people of Germany want to move on, and not be constantly held responsible for the sins of their fathers.
You and your fanclub need to get a life that embraces the present and the future, and Findalis needs to be committed.

Ingrid,

Sorry if you are offended. I don't bring up the Nazi past to slam Germany. I often point out that Germany has acknowledged its past.
NO I bring it up because I see history repeating itself. I see the situation in Europe much like Germany of the 1930s. I am not talking nearly as much of Germany as I am in other Euro countries.

Sometimes Americans don't like to be reminded of slavery, but we keep teaching our youth about it so it will never be repeated. It is not to say that America is an evil country in 2012.

Maybe when the last holocaust survivor is gone and the last perpetrator of the holocaust is gone, we can talk about moving on.

Gary, I don't believe that history repeats itself, there are always new problems to deal with. The wonderful Europe of 30 year ago never existed or why did so many Europeans leave to come to America? I have the unique perspective of being a German-American and having "lived" on three continents, and not on base, but with the people. Now I live in Europe but communicate constantly with the USA.

I don't claim to be an expert on anything, but I know that people like Findalis are the real troublemakers because the brush everything with one big stroke, and alienate people.

I see plenty of young people that have jobs, go to university, work hard, many in my own family. People live well all over Europe, the future was always uncertain but people surly live better than our grandparents.

I have learned that Jews are hated in every country, they know it, but it doesn't mean that everybody hates them. I talk to many Germans, and though some older ones still think that Hitler had the right ideas politically and economically, no one wants him back, and no one wants to see harm come to the Jews. So Findalis, get some treatment for your paranoia, otherwise your life will be miserable forever.
Gary, do you really believe that there will come a time when the last holocaust survivor is gone? Now their grandchildren are claiming they are suffering trauma. The holocaust is big business for some people.
