The Words of Thomas Sowell-or Somebody

This article by Thomas Sowell is short, but it is one of the best he has written. Could I say a modern day version of the Gettysburg Address?

Update: It appears that the article, which appeared in a Tennessee paper, was incorrectly attributed to Sowell. Whoever it was, however, Bravo!
Occupy Wall Street

A great article. One of the most intellectual human beings in this country, hits it right on the head ! ! !

Occupy Wall Street by Thomas Sowell

By Dr. Thomas Sowell

The current Occupy Wall Street movement is the best illustration to date of what President Barack Obama's America looks like. It is an America where the lawless, unaccomplished, ignorant and incompetent rule. It is an America where those who have sacrificed nothing pillage and destroy the lives of those who have sacrificed greatly.

It is an America where history is rewritten to honor dictators, murderers and thieves. It is an America where violence, racism, hatred, class warfare and of murder are all promoted as acceptable means of overturning the American civil society.

It is an America where humans have been degraded to the level of animals: of defecating in public, having sex in public, devoid of basic hygiene. It is an America where the basic tenets of a civil society, including faith, family, a free press and individual rights, have been always rejected. It is an America where our founding documents have been now shredded and, with them, every person's guaranteed liberties.

It is an America where, ultimately, great suffering will come to the American people, but the rulers like Obama, Michelle Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, liberal college professors, union bosses and all other loyal liberal/Communist Party members will live in opulent splendor.
It is the America that Obama and the Democrat Party have now created with all the willing assistance of the American media, Hollywood, unions, universities, the Communist Party of America, the Black Panthers and numerous anti-American foreign entities.

Barack Obama has brought more destruction upon this country in three years than any other event in the history of our nation, but it is just the beginning of what he and his comrades are capable of.
The Occupy Wall Street movement is just another step in their plan for the annihilation of America.
"Socialism, in general, has a record of failure that's so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it."

Dr. Thomas Sowell (A National Humanities Medal Winner)

-- The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are out numbered by the people that vote for a living.

"Could I say a modern day version of the Gettysburg Address?"

You could, but you would be insane.

Incidentally, Thomas Sowell did not write it.

Well, it was just a question.

Hmm, my fascism detector is getting some off-the-chart readings on this one!

@ C'thulhu

Sowell may not have been the writer who penned the piece attributed to him. But, that does not take away from the powerful words that ring true in the post, when addressing the damage performed by our "Radical -in-Chief President.

Problem is that it is becoming a fact. We are seeing it in California already. And almost 505 don't pay federal income taxes? Do the math.

It does appear that someone other than Sowell wrote it, but whoever it was-Bravo!

People are stocking up on guns and ammo. Just in case Obama is re-elected.

Well, this pathetic partisan screed COULD have been written by a petty narcissist like Thomas Sowell, but apparently others can write just as badly. I would have said a modern day Nuremberg Party Congress address (that would be the Nazi Party, not the Communist Party, for all you UC-Santa Cruz community studies majors).

When the federal income tax was first adopted, only the wealthiest ten percent were expected to pay anything at all. Somehow, nobody suggested disenfranchising "the 90 percent." Before the income tax, the federal government mostly got by on import excise duties, but nobody suggested that only the owners of merchant ships and wholesale warehouses should vote.

The notion that a casual band of political ingenues, performing a variation on the theme "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore," represents anything but themselves is a lot of wishful thinking on the part of those seeking any smear they can find to pin on the President of the United States. There isn't an ounce of substance to it.

The remaining rump of the Republican Party is indulging in its usual temper tantrum of morbid resentment, not out of racism, but out of a wounded sense of entitlement. That's why they hated Clinton, that's why they hate Obama. Starting with 1980 was supposed to be an uninterrupted thousand year reich of faux-conservative domination and deficits that Reagan proved don't matter. Those damn voters keep exercising their own judgement and ruining everything.

If somebody had told me that it was, in fact, a parody of a right-wing screed, I would have easily believed it.

I can't imagine why anyone could presume to fake a Thomas Sowell article. Sowell happens to be the country's foremost intellectual. He has written scores of books and a new article every week. They are available at

On the Super Tuesday elections he wrote, in part:
"It may clarify far more than that, including the future of this nation and of Western civilization. If a clear winner with a commanding lead emerges, the question then becomes whether that candidate is someone who is likely to defeat Barack Obama.

If not, then the fate of America — and of Western nations, including Israel — will be left in the hands of a man with a lifelong hostility to Western values and Western interests.

President Obama is such a genial man that many people, across the ideological space, cannot see him as a danger.

For every hundred people who can see his geniality, probably only a handful see the grave danger his warped policies and ruthless tactics pose to a whole way of life that has given generation after generation of Americans unprecedented freedom and prosperity.

The election next November will not be just another election, and the stakes add up to far more than the sum of the individual issues. Moreover, if reelected and facing no future election, whatever political constraints may have limited how far Obama would push his radical agenda will be gone.

He would have the closest thing to a blank check. Nothing could stop him but impeachment or a military coup, and both are very unlikely. A genial corrupter is all the more dangerous for being genial."

I don't know how it could be said better. The man is a national treasure, even more insightful and certainly more articulate than Eric Hoffer. (All the more remarkable, considering his humble beginnings.)

Indeed, Miggie. Indeed. If more people knew you, then you would be at the top of the list.

In a country where most people have some political vision, two politically blind men rate each other the nation's foremost intellectuals.
