Obama Comes to the Southland

President Obama in the air
(LA Times)

This is what Southern California, from LA to Orange County looks like this weekend as President Obama tours the Southland. No, he is not inspecting hurricane damage, nor is he meeting with the president of China.  He is going to private parties to schmooze with donors. Big donors. The LA Times has the report.

Not only was LA traffic snarled (once again), but if you wanted to attend one of those gatherings, it costs some 38,000 bucks, plus $10,000 to get your picture taken with the Great Man.

Of course, the Times doesn't want to appear too harsh on the President. Thus, they point out that the Democratic Party (partially reimburses the government for some of the costs. (No reimbursement to the common folks who were unable to get to and from work because of the traffic snarls and closed off streets.)

The Times also takes pains to (partially) justify this stuff and point out that those Republican presidents all did the same thing.

For me, there is good news. With all that money Obama is raking up, he doesn't need my three dollars anymore. Just think. If I had won that lottery, I could have had dinner with the Obamas for three bucks.

Oh yee suckers.

Oh, he needs all the $3 donations. A lot of $3 donations mixed in with a more limited number of $38,000 donations brings the AVERAGE donation way down. That makes for better press. Remember when George McGovern's average donation was $27 and some odd cents?

When the Koch Brothers and their millionaire friends in Texas stop funding PACs that flood the airwaves with Goebbels bytes, I will write to my president and urge him not to do any more big fundraisers.
