Follow up on Amir Mertaban's Appearance at UC Irvine

Amir Mertaban

On the week of May 9-13, the UC-Irvine Muslim Student Union held their annual week of anti-Israel speakers. On the evening of May 10, the speaker was local Muslim activist Amir Mertaban, a former MSA leader. Below is my own posting about the event.

Subsequently, the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) wrote a report on Mertaban's appearance highlighting his reluctance during the Q and A to state whether he supports or condemns Hamas and their charter.

IPT received a comment in response from Mertaban and subsequently obtained an interview with him. The link to the original article is contained in the follow up article, which is cross-posted below.

At the time I asked Mertaban about the statement from Al-Asi, I appreciated his instant and unequivocal response and returned to my seat with no further follow-up. Now he comes out with this religious recitation that implies (at the least) a threat against his critics-specifically Steven Emerson. It is disgusting.

The United West (which produced the video of the event) website has a clip of the Hamas exchange. It is under the heading of Muslim Keynote Speaker at UC Campus.
