Isaac Herzog Meets Old Joe

 Watching this morning’s White House meeting between President Biden and Israeli President Isaac Herzog was embarrassing. Biden, as expected, was at his doddering worst in extending his public greetings to the Israeli president. He read his remarks from note cards, mumbling and at times unintelligible. Herzog, on the other hand, needed no notes in his remarks, not even an “uh”. What an embarrassing contrast. 

To make matters worse, that shameful group of Democrat House members, known as “the Squad” are boycotting tomorrow’s address to Congress by Herzog.

One wonders why Israel even bothers to send Herzog to Washington.

Creepy Joe

 Yesterday some guy posted a group of photos of old horror film characters. It included photos of Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Peter Lorre, and other creepy characters. Being the wise guy that I am, I asked, 

“Where’s Joe Biden?” That didn’t too well with the poster, who responded, “Go away with your bs”.

Well, my friend might want to reconsider his reaction after Creepy Joe capped off his latest dumpster fire trip to Europe by appearing in Helsinki nibbling on the back of a terrified little girl and smelling her hair, as Creepy Joe is wont  to do.

The preacher will be tried by the criminal court of Paris for rapes committed between 2009 and 2016.

On Friday, two investigating judges ordered a trial before the departmental criminal court of Paris for Swiss preacher Tariq Ramadan, accused of the rapes of 4 women, a judicial source said, confirming sources close to the case.

Tariq Ramadan will be tried for the rapes allegedly committed between 2009 and 2016, according to the indictment order of which AFP (Agence France Presse) has knowledge.

"A terrible admission of weakness"

Relief for plaintiffs

Attorney Laure Heinrich, who is representing three women in the case investigated in Paris, including two with Attorney Laura Ben Kemoun, said that her clients are delighted, "with this decision and with the manifestly meticulous work done," by the magistrates.  Attorney Ben Kemoun added that the plaintiffs were "relieved and ready for the future".

In this case emblematic of the #MeToo era, Tariq Ramadan, 60, at first denied having had extra-marital sexual relations before admitting to "relations of domination," rough but "consensual". The affair, which led to the downfall of this charismatic and contested figure of European Islam, was triggered at the end of October 2017 by the complaints of Henda Ayari, a former Salafist-turned-secular militant, and "Christelle", who reported rapes respectively in 2012 in Paris and in 2009 in Lyon.

Between February 2018 and October 2020, Tariq Ramadan had been successively charged with rape by the first two plaintiffs and three other potential victims. He had been incarcerated for ten months.  

Two of the victims had been identified by police from photos and messages recovered from his computer, while the third, former escort girl, Mounia Rabbouj, had accused him of nine rapes during the period 2013-2014. The investigating judges finally decided to refer the preacher to the departmental criminal court, made up of professional magistrates and with no public jurors, for rapes of Henda Ayari, Mounia Rabbouj, and one of the women identified by photo, as well as for rapes of a vulnerable person- "Christelle". 

Germany: Eritrean Festival in Giessen Turns into Riot

At the controversial Eritrea Festival in Giessen, bottles and rocks were flying. Police were injured, and 200 people arrested. Hesse's interior minister is calling on the federal government to act.

On Saturday, police checked more than 400 people, and banned a large part of them from the location. Some 100 persons were taken into custody, some of whom had traveled from other European countries. It involves suspicion of bodily injury, breach of peace, resistance against law enforcement officials, and property damage. More than 1,000 police officers were deployed at the location. Hundreds of others from all over Hesse were called in.

The mood was also partly heated on social networks. The police warned of false reports. A police spokesperson said that some of the videos circulating on the internet showing riots are believed to be from the previous year.

State Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) called on the federal government to summon Eritrea's ambassador. "It must be made clear to the Eritrean government that Eritrean conflicts cannot be fought out on German soil," said Beuth in Wiesbaden. "Our policewomen and policemen are not a buffer for conflicts in third countries.

Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) tweeted: "I strongly condemn the violence and rioting against police officers in Giessen. Thanks to all the emergency forces. My thoughts are with the injured officers."

With its some 3 million inhabitants, Eritrea lies in northeast Africa on the Red Sea and is largely isolated internationally. President Isayas Afewerki has ruled the country for 30 years in a one-party dictatorship since a decades-long war fought for independence from Ethiopia. Other parties are banned, and freedom of speech and press are strongly restricted. There is neither a parliament, nor independent courts, nor civil society organizations. In addition, there is a strict military service and forced labor system, from which many people have fled abroad. 

City of Giessen wanted to ban festival

The Eritrea Festival is controversial because the organizer, the Central Committee of Eritreans in Germany, is considered to be close to the (Eritrean) government. The police had been preparing for days for a large-scale situation and the arrival of potentially violent (persons), after there had already been riots at a previous event in August. The city of Giessen initially banned the Eritrea Festival due to security concerns. However, this was overturned by the Giessen administrative court. Since early Saturday morning, according to police reports, groups of people of different sizes were seen rioting in various locations. People had torn down barrier fences and tried to break through police barriers. One group of an estimated 100-150 persons tore down a fence at the event location. At the festival in Hesse Hall, there were about 2,000 participants according to police reports.

There were clashes in various locations in the city, and objects were thrown from a bridge. Meanwhile, the police called on (the public) on Twitter to avoid the city area and drive around it. In the afternoon, the situation had apparently calmed down. A demonstration with about 100 participants went on without further incidents, a police spokesperson said.

Back when I was in school, you got suspended for things like fighting, playing hooky, or smoking in the bathroom. But this? 

Don't get me wrong; if they were harassing or physically assaulting the transgender kid, I would suspend them too. But not for incorrectly (or correctly depending on your point of view) using a particular pronoun. 

Another point is that it is the parents who need to address this issue with their children, not the schools. Schools should not be in the business of imposing values (including the LGBTQ agenda) unless it is affecting behavior. For example, fighting is not the way to resolve differences, and the schools don't want fights on their grounds. As I implied above, the school has the right and the duty to protect vulnerable students from harassment.  Using "the wrong" pronoun is not a behavioral issue.

Sweden: The Tension With Turkey Heats up

Next week, NATO leaders will meet in Vilnius, Lithuania, and Sweden will be present in observer status. A meeting between Sweden and Turkey in Vilnius is anticipated regarding Sweden's entry into NATO. It appears that Turkish strongman, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, wants Sweden to pass a law banning the burning of Korans. Is this Turkey's condition for voting yes to admit Sweden into NATO?

One Swedish member of Parliament, Mikail Yüksel, the leader of the Islamic political party, Nyans, has now openly stated that Sweden should bend to Turkey's wishes and ban the burning of Korans, which at the moment appears to be legally protected under Swedish laws regarding freedom of expression. Rotterdam- A 29-year-old man from Tajikistan and his 31-year-old wife from Kyrgyzstan were arrested Thursday morning on suspicion of terrorism, the State Prosecutor's Office of the Public Prosecutor (OM) reports. The two are suspected of "preparatory actions for a terrorist crime." The man is also suspected of participating with the terrorist organization, Islamic State (IS).

The two have been in the Netherlands since 2022. The woman was arrested in an apartment in Breda, (and) the man was arrested in Eindhoven. The investigators got on the trail of the suspects after an official report from the General  Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD). From this, it turned out the man is a  member of IS and had received the order to plot an attack. "The plans were not yet concrete, but the Public Prosecutor found them serious enough to intervene," the statement reads. 

The investigation was conducted in cooperation with Germany because the man was in contact with people who live in the North Rhine Westphalia state. In the German investigation, 7 suspects were arrested Thursday because they were allegedly preparing an attack. According to the newspaper, Die Welt, there were 7 men between 20-45 years of age from Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. They reportedly all arrived in Germany around the spring of 2022. According to German security services, they were in contact with the Afghani-Pakistani branch of ISIS.

Both suspects in the Netherlands will be brought before an examining magistrate on Friday. They are in restricted custody, which means that the suspects are only allowed contact with their lawyer.
