Austria: Rabbi Attacked by Knife-Wielding Woman in Vienna

Vienna-Wiener Landstrasse district

On Thursday, a rabbi was attacked on a Vienna street by a knife-wielding woman shouting, "Slaughter all Jews" in German. Though she was unable to stab the rabbi, she knocked his kippa off his head before fleeing. Police have launched a search.

Anti-Semitic attack on rabbi

During the attack, woman screamed anti-Semitic words

Vienna: an anti-Semitic attack upon a rabbi occurred Thursday in Vienna-Landstrasse (a district in Vienna), the Interior Ministry announced Friday. A woman threatened the rabbi at a bus stop with a knife, tore his kippa from his head, and tried to kick him. At the same time, the attacker screamed, "Slaughter all Jews". The rabbi was uninjured.

Sharp reactions

"Jew hatred and anti-Semitism have no place in our society. My solidarity is with all Jewesses and Jews living in Austria," tweeted Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen. Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz had already reacted, Thursday night: "I condemn the anti-Semitic attack on a rabbi in Vienna in the sharpest terms. We must fight anti-Semitism with all our determination and do everything to enable Jewish life here in Austria to be safe. Because Europe without Jews is no longer Europe," declared Kurz. Interior Minister  Karl Nehammer added: "In addition to strengthened protection for synagogues all measures will be taken to quickly clear up this obviously anti-Semitic-motivated attack. There is no tolerance for anti-Semitism." The president of the Vienna Jewish Religious Community, Oskar Deutsch, described the attack as, "a disturbing incident that has unsettled many."

The attacker is about 50 years old and 170 centimeters tall, and wore a grey coat (Editor).

France: 18 Months for Threatening to Behead Teacher

In the wake of the recent beheading murder of  Samuel Paty, a French teacher who showed caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad in his class, a number of copy-cat threats have occurred in France. In Nice, a 19-year-old man, who threatened a French teacher with beheading, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. The below article from Le Figaro is translated by Fousesquawk.

Nice: Youth sentenced to 18 months in prison for having threatened to kill a teacher "like Samuel Paty"

A young man of 19, with no record, sentenced for threatening a teacher with death on social media

-by Le Figaro with AFP, published yesterday (11-27-20) at 13:23, updated yesterday at 14:20

A young man of 19 has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for having threatened to kill a teacher "like Samuel Paty", in reference to the teacher decapitated in October in Val d'Oise, the prosecutor of Nice reported Saturday.

Judged in an immediate appearance, Friday 27 November, the defendant defended himself, according to an account of the hearing published by the daily, Nice-Matin, explaining that it was a "joke" only intended to show off in front of  (another) young high school student.

This young man, holder of a professional baccalaureate and presently finished with school, had gotten wind on social media of an incident that had happened in one of the teacher's classes. The latter, a  teacher for some 30 years, had asked certain pupils for an explanation, who were suspected of having cheated during a "white" baccalaureate test.

The defendant had then succeeded in obtaining the private account address of the teacher on another social media, in order to be able to threaten him with a similar death to that of Samuel Paty, a teacher killed by a young man after having shown caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad to his pupils during a course on freedom of expression.

"My client has lived through two very difficult weeks," explains Julien Darras, lawyer for the civil part (of the case-representing the victim). This teacher was forced to stop his courses and remove his name from his mailbox, while the police were identifying the author of the threats.

The defendant, with a clean record, faced up to 7 years of imprisonment for public support of terrorist acts by electronic means and death threat. He has ten days to file an appeal of this judgment accompanied by an immediate custody warrant.

Since the attack that struck the faithful of a Nice church on 29 October, more than 20 cases for (verbally) supporting terrorism have been conducted by the prosecutor's office of Nice, stated Xavier Bonhomme, national prosecutor. One man had already been sentenced to 18 months in prison for having threatened people in the proximity of this religious edifice, the magistrate added,.

Since the murder of Professor Samuel Paty on October 16, acts of (verbally) supporting terrorism and death threats have multiplied. A resident of Roubaix, 21 years of age, convert to Islam, was sentenced on November 19 in Lille to 18 months of prison, including 12 months probationary suspension for supporting terrorism on social media. In Var, at the end of October, another young man was sentenced to 18 months in prison with a committal warrant, for similar acts of supporting terrorism. According to Franceinfo, 187 cases have been opened in France for "threats", "Provocation to commit violent infractions," or "supporting terrorism", since the death of  Samuel Paty

The November 2 Terror Attack in Vienna: Intended Target Was Church

-RTL.de

On November 2, a jihadist terrorist opened fire in the heart of Vienna killing four and wounding 23 before being shot and killed by police. Today, it is being reported that the actual intended target of the terrorist was a group of youths holding a prayer service in a Catholic Church. The below article from Krone.at is translated by Fousesquawk.

 https://www.krone.at/2285793

Terrorist had Catholic Youth Group in Sights

The background of attack warnings on local churches is frightening: Because the ISIS-killer wanted to cause a bloodbath during an evening prayer of the Catholic Youth group in the Ruprecht Church on the night of terror in Vienna. The Islamist failed (to get through) the closed door, however, due to a timer lock...........

As reported, Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP)  in connection with Advent and the Christmas season, strengthened the protection of local churches. The details behind the security alarm are-despite the silence of the prosecutor's office- shocking: Because according to "Krone" investigation, 17 children, specifically, the Catholic Youth Group, escaped catastrophe by a hair!

Terrorist wanted to cause a massacre in the church

While they were holding a-not public-prayer hour in the Ruprecht Church in the heart of Vienna, the ISIS-killer wanted to break in with an assault rifle and pistols. However, he failed- due to a time-locked entrance. Seconds later, the attacker, was "taken out" with one shot by WEGA agents in front of the oldest church in the city. The "Investigative Group 2 November" interviewed the shocked women and children.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that the interim report of the Commission on the possible breakdowns investigated by anti-terror forces will be made public before Christmas.

Archdiocese spokesman: "You reacted with presence of mind"

The spokesman of the Vienna Archdiocese, Michael Prüller, on Friday afternoon, described the situation on the evening of the terror attack. The 17 youths escaped the attacker by turning off the lights when the first shots were fired. "You reacted with presence of mind and hid," Prüller further reported. The youths stayed hidden in the darkness until 2:30 am on Tuesday. Then the police gave the all-clear that the 17 girls and boys could go home.

Fousesquawk comment:

Make no mistake. From the murders of French priests to the desecration of Christian statues and churches themselves in countries throughout Western Europe, Christianity in Europe is under attack by Muslim migrants, asylum-seekers, refugees, or whatever you call them. And as long as these new arrivals are there, the problem is not going to go away. Only by chance were 17 children saved from a massacre only because they were Christians.

Along with a myriad of other crimes (not to mention terrorism), this is just the latest in a series of attacks against churches and Christian statues by these so-called refugees.

Switzerland Terrorist Stabbing in Lugano

On November 24, in the Swiss city of Lugano, near the Italian border, a 28-year-old Swiss woman stabbed another woman in a department store and attacked a second woman. Investigation has revealed that she had attempted to travel to Syria in 2017 to join a jihadist fighter she had met online. The below report from Corriere del Ticino is translated from Italian by Fousesquawk.

EU Priorities: Taking Care of Migrants and Fighting Islamophobia

Hat tip Jihad Watch

Silvia Sardone

The below article from the Italian daily, Il Giornale, concerns the priorities of the European Parliament in assisting migrants and fighting "Islamophobia". It also features remarks by Italian delegate to the European Parliament from the Lega Party, Silvia Sardone.  Sardone, who is from Milan, was recently threatened with rape because she had opposed the construction of a mosque in Milan.

The below article is translated by Fousesquawk. The article includes a video of Sardone's remarks at the European Parliament. We are working on English sub-titles.

Europe's priority on migrants: housing and jobs for those who disembark here

The new plan on integration into the EU revealed: Space and social inclusion projects and new housing for migrants. Meanwhile, the report on civil rights arrives in the European Parliament: No mention of terrorism, priority given to the fight against racism and Islamophobia

-Mauro Indelicato, 24 November 2020

Crucial days at Brussels, between sessions in the European Parliament and commission meetings. It was to be expected given what is happening in all of Europe, between the pandemic and the resulting economic crisis.

Still, the on-going arguments have nothing to do with recovery or recovery plans. On the contrary, they talk about migrants and civil rights.

The EU plan on integration

In these days, for example, placed at the top of the work agenda of the European Commission is the new plan for integration of migrants. These are multi-year projects, with which the EU is trying to give precise directions on the issue. In the last hours, the plan, which will substitute that approved in 2016, and which should last for a period of time including (the years) between 2021 -2027, was announced by the  European Commission itself.

It is based on four principal pillars: Education, work, access to health care, and adequate housing. The responsible principals of social policies are the member states, but the EU has the possibility to coordinate the policies and give specific directions. And according to the institutions of Brussels, in the coming years, the various governments must always commit themselves to inclusion, with investments and spending relative to more adequate accommodation for the migrants present in (EU) territory.

The first point concerns inclusion in the world of education: "There is a need to commit to education and training that are inclusive from early infancy to higher education," the commission plan reads, "concentrating on the facilitation of recognizing qualifications and on continuous learning of the languages, with the support of EU funds" The second point, however, concerns the work world, where all migrants "and women in particular," the plan further reads, must receive the support to express, "their full potential".

Then there is the third point, concerning the health sector. "In addition to specific financing of the EU, " the document states, "the action plan looks to guarantee the people are informed as to their rights and recognize the specific challenges faced by women, in particular during and after pregnancy." Finally, the fourth pillar calls for, "adequate and convenient finances through the European Fund for regional development, the  European Social Fund Plus, the Asylum Fund, and Migration and Invest EU," to find better housing for migrants.

Investments and priorities that could cause-and not a little- (those) outside the EU institutions to wrinkle their nose. Especially because for the moment, in the countries hardest hit by the Corona virus pandemic, there are no clear indications as to funds that the EU will make available to re-start the economy. Whose eventual collapse, not so remote through anti-contagion measures, could involve everyone, from citizens to migrants.

Report on fundamental rights

Also because then, if on the one hand, the commission is giving importance to the plan on integration, on the other, the EU Parliament, at this time, is discussing the report on the state of fundamental rights in 2018-2019, And here, according to the EU institutions, the priority is to stop the spread of racism and Islamophobia: "Instead of confronting the actual situation, it seems the program of a party of the extreme left, with passages that are biased and embarrassing," commented Lega deputy Silvia Sardone in her remarks in the European Parliament. "It talks of a European Parliament that has helplessly witnessed the spread of racism, of Islamophobic sentiments, of hostility and intolerance against Muslims, while (saying) nothing about terrorism, victims of attacks, about those who hate Europeans, our way of life, our culture, our values."

Scrolling down the report, it speaks, in effect, of measures to take against the spread of policies that lead to discrimination and, in which a presumed "criminalization of solidarity" would emerge, with clear reference to the tug-of-war in the last years between the Italian government of the yellow-green (alliance) and the NGOs. The priority, that of the EU, (is) quite far from a reality where, on the contrary, millions of people await a concrete response on the economic and health front.

"Re-Defining" Anti-Semitism and Israel

This article first appeared in New English Review.

On numerous occasions, I have checked into a blog called, "Informed Comment" by University of Michigan professor Juan Cole. For those readers not familiar with Cole, he is one of the virtual army of leftist professors who are activists in the campaign against Israel. It is Cole's position that Israel is oppressing the Palestinians, denying their rights, occupying their land, and, in general, (Israelis) have no right to even be there in the first place. In the past, I have posted many of Cole's articles in Informed Comment accompanied by critiques.

Currently, he is running a guest article by three writers who attack the working definition of anti-Semitism as defined by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), a definition that has gained wide recognition internationally. The writers are Jasmin Zine, Greg Bird and Sara Matthews, who are professors at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada. It is their position that the IHRA definition is an assault upon free speech-namely the right to criticize the state of Israel and its policies vis-a-vis the Palestinians. They point out that there are 7 aspects of the definition that relate to the state of Israel. In other words, it is their position that the IHRA definition considers (any) criticism of Israel to be anti-Semitic. They are particularly upset that the government of Ontario has chosen to adopt the IHRA definition.

Here is the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism from their web site. I have cut and pasted one pertinent paragraph.

"Manifestations might include the targeting of the state of Israel, conceived as a Jewish collectivity. However, criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic. Antisemitism frequently charges Jews with conspiring to harm humanity, and it is often used to blame Jews for “why things go wrong.” It is expressed in speech, writing, visual forms and action, and employs sinister stereotypes and negative character traits."

Note that the definition itself states that "criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as anti-Semitic". That is fair, and virtually every pro-Israel activist I know acknowledges that. However, when Israel's enemies attack her for this or that perceived human rights abuse against Palestinians while ignoring the practices of virtually all of her neighbors, there is obvious hypocrisy.  In addition, is it unreasonable to include points such as calling Israel a Nazi state or holding Jews everywhere responsible for what Israel does? The US State Department definition of anti-Semitism has similar wording in regards to Israel, and it has also come under attack as being an assault against free speech. Critics charge that the DOS definition categorizes all criticism of Israel as anti-Semitic-which is false. I have personally heard professors speak at UC Irvine and make this false claim.

More to the point-and from my own observations- I believe that the attacks on Israel are largely over religion as opposed to who is entitled to what land. All too often, I have seen how attacks on Israel by pro-Palestinian forces, especially on campuses, have crossed the line into pure Jew-hatred. Why is it that virtually the entire Islamic world has joined forces against Israel on this issue? (Granted, some Middle Eastern countries, such as Egypt, Sudan, the UAE and others have decided to give up the fight.) But on university campuses across North America, Muslim students from backgrounds as diverse as Afghan, Pakistani, Arabs etc. have all embraced the Palestinian cause. That is hardly a coincidence. Islamic teaching stresses that land occupied at any time by Muslims is to be Muslim land forever. Thus, in any conflict between Muslims and non-Muslims, Muslims everywhere must support the Muslim cause.

The point I am trying to make here is that when discussing Jew-hatred, anti-Semitism, or whatever you want to call it, we cannot ignore the fact that the Koran and Islamic teaching are downright, well, anti-Semitic (and anti-Christian).  This is not to ignore or excuse Jew-hated by many other factions, including white nationalists, neo-Nazis, KKK-types, and others. Indeed, anti-Semitism has taken so many forms over the centuries. Originally, it was based on theology and the accusation that the Jews crucified Christ. The anti-Semitism of Martin Luther was based on theological differences. Later it evolved into other forms involving old tropes; money-changers, bankers, the Jews control everything, etc. Over one hundred years ago there was the Czarist Russian-created Protocols of the Elders of  Zion-a pure forgery, that some fanatics still accept as fact. Then came the Nazis, who cared nothing about theology. To them, Jews were a race-which was inferior and a threat that had to be removed from Germany and Europe.

Today, so much of the Jew-hatred we see today is centered around the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Is it any wonder why the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism mentions Israel? It should also be stressed that so many of Israel's attackers resort to classic anti-Jew tropes, such as harvesting blood, dual loyalties, controlling everything from the banks, to Hollywood, to our government, and the world itself. Today, Israel is accused of harvesting the organs of dead Palestinians to sell on the world market. That canard comes from the pro-Palestinian lobby. (Maybe I should not use that word, "lobby" because it is still a dirty word used against Jews in America who support the Jewish state of Israel.)

I would also like to address this statement from the article:

"Websites run by neoconservative campus groups demonize, harass and intimidate scholars who support Palestinian rights, support BDS and are critical of Israel’s policies. These targeted attacks have a chilling effect on classrooms, research and campus politics."

So while complaining about their right of free speech being attacked, they attack the free speech of their critics (like me). Yes, websites like mine certainly criticize them, but how do we harass and intimidate? It is clear that to them, criticism is harassment and intimidation. "Scholars" are free to attack Israel until the cows come home, which they do on a regular basis on US, Canadian, and European campuses. In fact, it is their side which rules the roost. But let any pro-Israel speaker come to campus, and they can expect to be disrupted. Jewish students who stand up for Israel are routinely harassed and intimidated by pro-Palestinian students, faculty, and other radicals who show up to speak on campus. I have seen it first hand. I have been present at pro-Israel events at UC Irvine that are disrupted while campus cops stand around like potted plants, and cowardly university administrators hide under their desks. It is not the pro-Israel side that engages in disruption and bullying; it is the pro-Palestinian side, as represented by Students for Justice in Palestine and various chapters of the Muslim Student Association/Union. To say that our campuses are a hostile environment to anybody who defends Israel is an understatement. Every year, student governments all over the US and Canada have to spend hours or days heatedly debating boycott resolutions against Israel. Often they are accompanied by swastikas, such as occurred at UC Davis in 2015, just to name one example.

Then there is the above-referenced BDS movement (Boycott, Divest and Sanctions) directed against one nation in the world-Israel. It is a creation of the Palestinian forces and seeks to destroy the Jewish state of Israel. Twice I have been present when BDS co-founder Omar Barghouti has spoken on California campuses (UC Irvine and UC Riverside). He is a fraud masquerading as a human rights activist, but he is welcomed with open arms by leftists everywhere.

Contrary to the claims of the three authors of this article, Israel is the sole nation in that region under attack precisely because it is a Jewish state in a sea of Muslim states. Were Israel just another majority-Muslim dictatorship or theocracy, nobody would be complaining about so-called human rights abuses. That is why certain-not all- references to Israel can and must be defined as anti-Semitic. Those who seek to bring about the destruction of the Jewish state of Israel, while engaging in tactics of disruption and intimidation against Jewish students in the West do not get to define what anti-Semitism is.

Italy: Illegal Migrants Threaten to Cut Throats of Italians

Hat tip Libero Quotidiano, Radio Savana and Vlad Tepes: Translation of written article by Fousesquawk

On the Italian island of Sardinia, North African migrants being housed at a reception center have shown their gratitude to the Italians by making a hip-hop video in which they talk of cutting the throats of Italians. The Sardinian migrant center at Monastir, inhabited largely by Algerians, is being described as a "powder keg ready to blow."

Migrants in a reception center in Sardinia. Songs, dances, and music videos: "Italians, we will cut your throats"

-21 November 2020

North African immigrants in a reception center in Sardinia sing, dance, make music videos, and threaten to cut the throats of Italians. And someone on the left defends them invoking "cultural difference" or perhaps, linguistic specificity of street hip hop. The video of these immigrants awaiting recognition of their status is making the rounds on the internet, (posted) also on Radio Savana on Twitter, which wrings its hands against the "illegal Africans" who evade, rob, harass minors, brawl, get drunk, attack police, and more". Strong words, which, however, express the sense of anger and frustration of many Italians. In a word, injustice.

Muslims Protest at French Embassy in Stockholm

Hat tip Samnytt, RAIR Foundation, Vlad Tepes, and Gates of Vienna. Translation by Fousesquawk.

On Friday, a group of what are described as Salafist Muslims staged a protest in front of the French embassy in Stockholm in response to the recent events in France and the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron. The speaker in this video is Imam Muhsin Asinger of the Islamic Kurdish Cultural Center. In the below video, Asinger is seen speaking to his followers in the street in what seems to be a combination of Swedish and Arabic. The translation begins with two posters held by protesters. Later on in the video, Swedish sub-titles appear translating his Arabic chants into Swedish. That is followed by an interview with the imam in Arabic-apparently by a representative of the conservative Swedish news outlet, Samnytt, and is accompanied by Swedish sub-titles. You should note that the written Swedish sub-titles do not always synchronize with the voice. We have synchronized the English sub-titles to match the Swedish sub-titles.

The main issue here is that of burning Korans, criticizing Islam, and/or mocking the Prophet Mohammad. Asinger insists there should be a law against insulting Islam and Mohammad. In his talk to his followers, he recites chants to Allah to strike terror in the hearts of Islam's enemies. He also tells the interviewer that if the police do not deal with Koran burners, he and his followers will. He also claims that nobody dares criticize Jews, and that it should be the same for Muslims. He insists that he and his followers are not extremists and, in answer to a question, he says there is no difference between Islam and political Islam.

Biden Puts John Kerry in Charge of Weather

Batten down the hatches, Folks, because Joe Biden has just named John Kerry to be-get this- Special Presidential Envoy for Climate.

" Expect rain and thundershowers through 2024"

That means Kerry will get lots of trips back to Paris to practice his French as he drags us back into the Paris Climate Accord-which means we get to pour lots of money back into China and India so they can deal with the effects of Climate Change.

2019 FBI Hate Crime Report

This article first appeared in Times of Israel Blogs.

The FBI has released its annual report for hate crimes in 2019. What is significant is that Jews seemed to be the biggest target of religious hate crimes. There was not only a 14% increase in attacks against Jews but, as victims, they accounted for 60% of the total religious hate crimes. The numbers may shock some, but they didn’t shock me. I have been watching this problem fester for almost 15 years now.

I first began paying attention around 2006 when I was teaching part-time at the University of California at Irvine and saw how the pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel activism on our campus was often spilling over into unabashed Jew-hatred. The purveyors of this modern-day anti-Semitism tried to disguise it in the form of “anti-Zionism”. They denied they were anti-Semitic. Many of the anti-Israel professors and speakers invited to campus by Students for Justice in Palestine and the Muslim Student Union were themselves Jewish. That could not change the fact that vicious anti-Semites like Oakland-based imam, Amir Abdel Malik Ali, and Washington DC-based imams, Mohamed al-Asi and Abdul Alim Musa also came to our campus and engaged in heated anti-Jewish rhetoric. I know. I was present on several such occasions.

It was just this specific situation at UC Irvine that made me an activist though I myself am not Jewish. As a student of the history of the Third Reich, I was already sensitive to the issue of anti-Semitism. As I watched the deteriorating situation for Jews in Europe, I realized that anti-Semitism was enjoying a resurgence in the US as well. The focal point for that resurgence was on our university campuses, and the entire University of California system was a particular hotspot, though it must be pointed out that the problem exists in universities all over the US and Canada. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is the latest example of campus under the microscope as a result of numerous complaints from Jewish students. And the spark that lights the fire on campuses across the country is the Israel-Palestinian conflict. It is one of the biggest hot-button issues on countless university campuses.

From the campuses, the problem has now metastasized across society. This is purely anecdotal and personal, and I don’t have the empirical evidence for this, but when I first got involved back in 2006-7, my impression was that it was a campus problem. The local Jewish community did not seem to be overly aware of what was happening on campus in the peaceful bedroom community of Irvine. Indeed, we struggled to bring the problem to the attention of the local community. In that effort, we and Jewish students who wanted to speak out and fight back were thwarted in our efforts by national Jewish organizations like the Jewish Federation (Orange County) and Hillel, both of whom were too embedded and invested in the university to want to make waves. Meanwhile, the ADL was simply missing in action. They prefer to this day to concentrate on anti-Semitism coming from white nationalists.

Not to defend white anti-Semites; they are to be condemned as well. I just don’t believe they account for the major part of the problem. Then again, I don’t have the empirical evidence at my fingertips. I hope that the FBI report gets wide dissemination. The public must demand action from the government. Not to get political, but under the Trump administration, the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights has taken an active role in addressing this issue. If Joe Biden becomes our next president, as it appears he will, I hope that policy will continue. I fear, however, that the Biden administration is going to be more Palestinian-friendly. That will have repercussions not only with our Israel policy but on our campuses as well. Jew-hatred has always been an issue that cuts across ethnic lines.

Next year’s FBI report will surely include the May 2020 pogrom that occurred in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles, largely carried out by Black Lives Matter thugs in the wake of the George Floyd death. The truth is that we all need to examine anti-Semitism within our own communities and within our own ethnic groups, white, black, Muslim, etc. Here in the US, our universities also need to address this issue. After all, at least in my opinion, this is where it began to explode.

France: Macron Meets with Islamic Leaders

Hat tip Francois DeSouche

This week, French President Emmanuel Macron met with several Muslim religious leaders at the Elysee Palace in Paris. Macron is putting pressure on France's leading Islamic organizations to recognize French values, the principle of secularization in France, and that Islam in France is a religion-not a political movement. Macron is also trying to bring more supervision over the training of imams and eliminate foreign influence on imams in the country.

The below article from France 24 is translated by Fousesquawk.

https://www.france24.com/fr/france/20201119-islam-de-france-le-cfcm-pr%C3%A9sente-%C3%A0-emmanuel-macron-un-projet-de-conseil-des-imams

Islam in France: The CFCM presents Emmanuel Macron a council of imams project

-19 November 2020

The French Council of Muslim Worship (CFCM) was received by Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace Wednesday. At the request of the President, its leaders proposed to him a national council project responsible for supervising the training of imams in France.

The leaders of the French Council of the Muslim Worship presented Emmanuel Macron Wednesday, 18 November, with a project of a national imams council. The head of State had asked them to create a body responsible for designating imams in France, stated the Elysee (Palace).

The chief of State has also asked them to write up, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, a "charter of Republican values", upon which the CFCM and the 9 federations that make up (the CFCM) will commit themselves.

He gave them two weeks to come and present this charter to him, stated the Elysee, confirming the information from Le Figaro and Parisien.

This charter, the President requested, must affirm the recognition of the values of the Republic, specifying that Islam in France is a religion and not a political movement, and stipulates the end of interference or affiliation with foreign nations.

The objective is specifically to put an end, within 4 years, to the presence in France of 300 foreign imams, (sent by) Turkey, Morocco and Algeria.

(Stop) the ambiguities

Since his speech on separatism and radical Islam at the beginning of October, and again after the murder of Samuel Paty and the Nice attack, the chief of State increased his pressure on the governing bodies of Islam in France to fight against foreign influence, radicalization, and political Islam.

On Wednesday, he received the leaders of the 9 federations that compose the CFCM for the fourth time since the start of the school year, according to the Elysee Palace. The president let them know that several of these federations are taking ambiguous positions on the subjects discussed and that they need to stop these ambiguities.

Among these 9 federations, representatives of one large part of the Muslim religious community, three of them, do not have a "Republican vision", like Milli Görüs, a Turkish (national), and the Muslims of France, (formerly -UOIF-Union of Islamic Organizations in France), the Elysee palace revealed. " If some of them do not sign this charter, we will draw the consequences," the president warned, who "took note of their proposals".

Designating the imams

The council of imams, presented as a sort of council on the order of the model of that of lawyers, would not only be able to designate imams and give them an official card- presently, no designation is necessary, and it is possible for one to proclaim himself an imam- but also to withdraw approval in case of a breach of the charter and a code of ethics, that it will have to draw up.

The President gave the CFCM 6 months to implement a training framework for imams.

Depending on their role (imams directing prayer, preaching imams, and conference speaking imams) different levels of knowledge of French and diplomas, up to university training, will be (required). The council will have to bring current imams into this model.

The membership of CFCM in this new Muslim religious organization in France would mark a victory for Emmanuel Macron, target of sometimes violent criticisms from Muslims in several countries for his remarks on an Islam "in crisis" and his words against radical Islam.

Aside from the calls for a boycott of French products, the French president, who rejects any accusation of being anti-Muslim and defends a neutral secularization vis-a-vis all religions, has himself personally become the target of jihadist threats.

Fousesquawk comment:

It sounds good, but only the actions and results can be judged. Macron bears a lot of responsibility as president for the dangerous situation in his country. That also extends to his predecessors as well. Since the recent attacks in France, it appears that Macron is taking a harder position, and he has incurred vicious attacks and threats from the Muslim world. It will not be easy to get French Muslim leaders to abandon the political aspects of Islam, which are deeply embedded in Islamic teaching. In the West, however, this should not be a point for negotiation. As noted above, stopping the influence of foreign imams in France is an important point. Importing imams from countries like Turkey and Saudi Arabia is a recipe for catastrophe. In addition, organizations aligned with radicals, terrorists, and bodies like the Muslim Brotherhood should be shut down.

A Look Back at Kathleen Sebelius

Hat tip Chris

Back in 2013, I selected former Health and Human Services director Kathleen Sebelius as "Jerk of the Year". One of the principal reasons was her refusal to bend the rules for a 12-year-old girl with cystic fibrosis to have an adult to child lung transplant needed to save her life. The courts overruled her, and as a result, Sarah Murnaghan received two lung transplants, one from an adult. The original link from the Independent Review Journal in 2013 describing the case is no longer online, so I am using this link from Daily Mail in its place.

Today, Sarah is still alive*, and one of my colleagues has sent me this update. It is from 2018. Had Sebelius' bureaucratic decision stood, Sarah would not have survived.

*As far as I know. The last mention of her online is from social media last year.

University of Illinois (UC) Under Investigation by DOE-OCR

This week we reported a statement by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign pledging to fight campus Semitism after a series of complaints by Jewish students. There is more to the story, however. The Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights has launched its own investigation into campus anti-Semitism at UIUC. The investigation was announced three days prior to the UIUC statement.

As always, I go to the campus newspaper to see what they are saying and reporting. The below article is from the current Daily Illini. It is a letter to the editor and is the only article I see addressing the issue. I have submitted my comments in the reader thread.

Christiane Amanpour's History

This article was first published in the Times of Israel Blogs.

“In that tower of burning books, it led to an attack on fact, knowledge, history and truth,” she said. “After four years of a modern-day assault on those same values by Donald Trump, the Biden-Harris team pledges a return to norms, including the truth.”

                                                 Kristallnacht 1938

I have never been a fan of CNN’s Christiane Amanpour. In the early days of her career, I did respect the fact that she reported from some very dangerous places in the world as a war correspondent. Over the years, I realized that her politics were not in lockstep with mine, but I could excuse that. What I found harder to accept was the fact that, like so many of her colleagues in the media, she mixed fact and opinion in her reporting. Of course, that is why she has lasted so long at CNN.

This week, Amanpour has created more controversy with her comparison of President Donald Trump to the forces that carried out the so-called Kristallnacht or Night of the Broken Glass in Germany in 1938 during the Third Reich. It was an obscene comparison, and she has seen fit to apologize, which is to her credit. Would she have apologized had the incident not caused so much outrage, so much so that even the state of Israel protested? I don’t know.

To me, it is not a question of whether Amanpour is anti-Semitic. I have no reason to believe she is. What I find so objectionable is linking Trump to this piece of history. Trump is many things, but I reject the charge that he is anti-Semitic. This is a man whose own daughter has converted to Judaism, the religion of his son-in-law, Jared Kushner. This is the president who has been more supportive of Israel than any other president in my lifetime, and this is the president who has put universities in the US on notice that if they don’t put an end to the bullying of Jewish students, they could lose federal funding. If Amanpour wants to trash Trump, I suggest she find a more apt comparison.

Amanpour apparently also needs to brush up on her history, which is supposed to be an important asset for a career journalist. In the television piece, she did comparing Trump to Kristallnacht, she mixed the event up with another incident from the Third Reich, the book-burning that occurred in 1933. On that occasion on the evening of May 10, 1933 university students collected books by German writers the regime looked upon with disfavor (many of whom were Jewish) and burned them in public ceremonies in university towns across Germany as Nazi officials gave speeches.

Five years later, in November 1938, Ernst vom Rath, a German diplomat working at the German embassy in Paris, was shot and mortally wounded by Herschel Grynszspan, a young Polish Jew upset that his family had been deported from Germany to Poland. When vom Rath died, the Nazis used the incident as an excuse to launch Kristallnacht, in which Jewish shops and synagogues were burned down across the country and thousands of Jews arrested.

In addition to the above-quoted reference to the “tower of burning books” (which was not Kristallnacht), Amanpour also included a film clip of the book burning, which had occurred 5 years before Kristallnacht.

Both incidents were despicable, but linking either of them to Trump is inaccurate and only shows the deep bias that exists in the American news media. Amanpour compounded her error by mixing up basic facts about the Third Reich that are so basic, any educated person should know the difference.

DOJ Dropping Drug Charges Against Mexican General

The Department of Justice is asking that federal charges against former Mexican Defense Secretary Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda be dropped so that Mexico can pursue its own prosecution against the general.

 https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/doj-to-drop-charges-against-former-mexican-defense-secretary-accused-of-helping-drug-cartels/ar-BB1b6GuH

"In recognition of the strong law enforcement partnership between Mexico and the United States, and in the interests of demonstrating our united front against all forms of criminality, the U.S. Department of Justice has made the decision to seek dismissal of the U.S. criminal charges against former Secretary Cienfuegos, so that he may be investigated and, if appropriate, charged, under Mexican law,” Barr said."

I have no inside information about this case or General Cienfuegos, but a lot of us retired DEA agents are shaking our heads over this revelation. Frankly speaking, it stinks. I worked a lot of international cases in my day, cases that involved prosecution in two or more countries since trafficking drugs from one country to another automatically breaks the laws of both countries. There is no double jeopardy involved when a defendant is prosecuted by two different countries. When a person is indicted in the US but is being held by another country for prosecution and imprisonment, the American indictment sits and waits until the person is available to be tried in the US.

And as to the above statement from DOJ, how many times have we heard this said by our government leaders? Cooperation with Mexico has always been a mixed bag, traditionally hampered by Mexican corruption at every level. DEA agents, past and present, are still bitter over the 1985 kidnapping, torture, and murder of Agent Enrique Camarena, the involvement of Mexican officials, and the spotty prosecution of the perpetrators.

On the surface, it would appear that Mexico is playing diplomatic hardball. Perhaps-and I underline perhaps, Mexico was caught off guard by the arrest of Cienfuegos in the US. I hope more will be revealed in the coming days and weeks because, frankly, the Justice Department has some explaining to do. I can only imagine the seething anger of those agents who worked long and hard to bring about the arrest of Cienfuegos.

* Update (11-19-20): Here is more from Vice.com on the background behind the Mexican government reaction.

Netherlands: Geert Wilders

Hat tip RAIR Foundation

Dutch politician Geert Wilders is not mincing words since the horrific events in France with the beheading of Samuel Paty, a teacher who dared to show Mohammad cartoons in his class. Wilders' position is clear: Islam has no place in a free, democratic society like the Netherlands. It is time to close the borders and throw the Islamists out of the country.

You can access the video here.

And I agree. If for no other reason, it is time to save lives and stop the slaughter of innocent people. And to decent Muslims in the West who want to live in peace with the rest of us, I say:

Stand with us.

University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) Commits to Confronting Anti-Semitism

Hat tip Jewish Insider

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has taken a major step forward in confronting what has been an on-going problem of anti-Semitism on its campus. Here is a joint statement issued by the University, Jewish United Fund Chicago, Illini Hillel, Hillel International, Illini Chabad, Arnold & Porter, and the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law.

Having followed the events at UIUC over the past couple of years (see previous articles here and here), I applaud Chancellor Robert Jones for this action and his statements in support of Jewish students. I think it is also notable that the university statement, rather than simply condemn anti-Semitism in general terms, has specifically included language that makes it clear that at least a portion of the problem is due to anti-Zionist feelings toward Israel. My own personal opinion, generally speaking, is that opposition to Israel is the major aspect of campus anti-Semitism in our universities. While it is not necessarily anti-Semitic to be critical of Israel's policies vis-a-vis the Palestinian issue, I have personally seen how it has all-too-often spilled over into pure Jew-hatred. All too often, we have seen and heard anti-Jewish canards that have been around for centuries and pre-date the establishment of the modern state of Israel used against Jews in general.

It is not just the University of Illinois. This problem has spread to campuses all over the country and must be stopped in its tracks. Student governments are being paralyzed every year by forced debate and votes on whether to boycott companies doing business with Israel-as if this has anything to do with student life on campus. Campus police have their hands full anytime a speaker who might be pro-Israel is invited to come at speak because disruptions by Students for Justice in Palestine and/or the local Muslim Student Association are sure to result. Meanwhile, vicious anti-Israel/anti-Jewish speakers appear regularly on campuses. And the result of all this is bullying and intimidation directed at Jewish students.

I have met many Jewish alumni from various universities who have recounted to me how they don't look back on their alma maters with fond memories because of the harassment they suffered and the lack of support they received from the university in question-and, in many cases, the lack of support they received from major Jewish organizations who are supposed to look out for Jewish students in these situations.

But to the specific case at hand, UIUC has had problems which they have acknowledged and pledged to make things right. This is a positive step, but it must be followed up on. The above statement should not just be something to stick in the files as "documentation" that the problem is being addressed. The coming months and years will tell us whether UIUC has become a safe campus for Jews.

Muslim Brotherhood in the Netherlands (3)

Hat tip Dagelijkse Standaard: Translation by Fousesquawk

A few days ago, we translated an article from the Dutch news outlet, Dagelijkse Standaard on the candidacy of a Muslim female parliamentary candidate for the Green-Left party, Kauthar Bouchallikht, and her possible connections to the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in the Netherlands.

The below article is a follow-up to that article and also appears in the Dagelijkse Standaard. It now appears that Bouchallikht is the daughter of an MB leader in the Netherlands, Mostapha Bouchallikht.

This is the latest in our series of translated articles from European sources on the presence of the MB in Europe. It is the third such article from the Netherlands.,

Muslim Brotherhoodgate in Green-Left gets worse: Controversial candidate is now "probably" daughter of MB-leader

by Tim Engelbart, November 16, 2020

The net around Kauthar Bouchallikht, number 9 on the Green-Left party (list) in the coming Parliamentary elections, continues to close. The connections that this candidate maintains with the extremist Muslim Brotherhood is apparent not only from its membership-her own father is a prominent leader, a think tank is now writing.

Against its better judgment, Green-Left in 2020-2021, an otherwise completely secular party, is apparently planning to repeat the PvdA failure of 2012-2014 with Tunahan Kuzu and Selçuk Öztürk by giving a place on the list to an Islamist politician.  Because after it was earlier shown that their number 9, Kauthar Bouchallikht, through leadership positions in Islamic groups, carried with her the ideas of the MB, Jesse Klaver's party acted as if there was nothing wrong.

No, indeed, just a politician who is judged on her gender and religion, suggested the party leader. Nothing more to see here! So goes the not-so-convincing explanation from Klaver.

But that Bouchallikht is intertwined with the Islamists of the MB, which wants an Islamist theocracy, is not only evident from the dubious group, FEMYSO,* for which the future representative of the people was a board member. The connections also reach into her family domain, reveals the think tank, Global Influence Operations Report:

“The GIOR has discovered that in addition to her leadership position in FEMYSO, Kauthar Bouchallikht is likely the daughter of Mostapha Bouchallikht, one of the most important leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Netherlands. The Dutch trade register indicates that her Amsterdam address is the same address used to register a Dutch foundation where Mostapha Bouchallikht serves as Chairman. (…) Based on their respective ages, the most likely conclusion is that Kauthar Bouchallikht is the daughter of Mostapha Bouchallikht, a relationship confirmed by other sources in the Netherlands."

Jesse Klaver and Green-Left can stay hidden and pretend there is nothing strange with Mostapha Bouchallikht Junior. But in the end, the party is doing one thing by this: Put themselves on the pile, drop in the polls, and let the poison cloud called Islamism sneak through a crack into the Second Chamber. Does the party want to have all that on its conscience? We will soon learn.

Three Genders at University of California

You can't put a price tag on four years of college these days. Think of all the great things you learn, such as there are three genders, male, female, and non-binary. That is now official policy at the University of California and all its campuses. You can read all about it at the Daily Californian, the campus newspaper at UC Berkeley.

https://www.dailycal.org/2020/11/13/uc-president-michael-drake-announces-policy-on-gender-recognition-lived-name/

"Billy Curtis, UC Berkeley Gender Equity Resource Center director, and nine other LGBTQ+ resource center directors across the UC campuses have worked closely with the UC Office of the President for more than a year to create the policy."

One can only wonder how much time (one year) resources and money has gone into this project at the expense of things that really matter in education. I guess the next major undertaking at UC will be to make sure the new ID cards will include each student's preferred pronouns-or has that already been done?

Muslim Brotherhood in the Netherlands (2)

Hat tip Dagelijkse Standaard-Translation by Fousesquawk.

This is the latest in our series of translations from European sources regarding the presence and activities of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in Europe. This is the second such article from the Netherlands and concerns a particular Muslim candidate for office who is suspected of being connected to the MB.

Naive idiot club Green-Left (party) puts Muslim Brotherhood-Islamist  as (candidate)- Spot number 9 on election list

-by Tim Engelbart, 12 November 2020

So they have succeeded: As a strictly secular, left party, they have placed Kauthar Bouchalikht, someone from the extreme-right Islamic hate club, Muslim Brotherhood, on place number 9 in the coming Parliamentary elections.

Give credit where credit is due: Carel Brendel, retired AD- journalist, discovered that the leftist secular and liberal Green-Left placed someone from the hard-hitting, extreme-right Muslim Brotherhood on an election list spot for the coming Parliamentary elections. Her name is Kauthar Bouchallikht, and she was vice-chair of the youth organization of this sharia club (MB).

"The candidate commission of the Green-Left has awarded a high candidate position in the coming Second Chamber elections to Kauthar Bouchallikht, the vice-chair of the youth and student organization of the Muslim Brothers. The celebratory biography makes no mention of this striking activity."

And no, that does not mean that the Green-Left has placed a terrorist on their list. But the MB is a fanatical and fundamentalist movement that attempts to bring about sharia and Islamic law through democracy. In France, President Macron has recently started warning against these crazy people, Brendel writes.

"Nevertheless, the MB is seen by many as a problematical political-religious movement, which would promote 'Islamic separatism' (according to French President Emmanuel Macron)  and in the longer term possibly more dangerous for democracy than Salafism (according to what the agency for Protection of the Constitution in the German state of Nordrhine-Westfalen reported.)"

So it is important that the Green-Left remove this girl from the election list. Or the ideals of the party should be changed to re-establishing the Netherlands as a theocratic, Islamic state. That is, naturally, also possible.

Stanford University and the Hoover Institution

This article first appeared in New English Review.

Stanford University, like so many others, spent decades building a reputation as a premier academic institution in the United States. And like so many others, its actual worth as an educational center has declined in recent decades due to the usual assortment of left-wing faculty who stress indoctrination over education. One of the shining lights at Stanford, amid the negativity, has been the renowned Hoover Institution, a conservative think tank founded in 1959 by former President Herbert Hoover. Today it boasts people like Condoleeza Rice, Thomas Sowell, and Victor Davis Hanson.  Yet predictably, the forces of leftism on campus are challenging the relationship between the Hoover Institution and Stanford. This week’s Stanford Daily, the campus newspaper of Stanford, has an article describing the issue. In September, 100 faculty members signed a letter to the university asking Stanford to re-evaluate its relationship with the Hoover Institution based on their perceived (right-wing) bias.

I am familiar with two of the names on that letter, David Palumbo-Liu, whose signature is at the top, and Joel Beinin. Both are liberal activists chiefly known for their pro-Palestinian activism against the Jewish state of Israel. I myself had the opportunity to see and hear Palumbo-Liu speak at the University of California at Irvine, where I was a part-time teacher, in 2016. Ironically, the topic of the event was freedom of speech in the age of Charlie Hebdo. The event featured several leftist academics who didn’t care much for Charlie Hebdo’s freedom of speech even after several of them had been slaughtered in Paris for publishing Mohammad cartoons. Yet, most of them, including Palumbo-Liu, complained bitterly that they and their fellow-pro-Palestinian student-faculty activists were the victims of a campaign to silence them. (Anybody who visits a college campus will soon see that the pro-Palestinian forces are alive and loud, while it is the pro-Israel activists who have to fear intimidation and disruption of their events, as I can personally attest based on years of first-hand experience.)  Suffice to say that Palumbo-Liu has a rather twisted way of thinking when it comes to the question of who should be allowed to express their views and who should not. In contrast, this is the guy who caused a controversy on the Stanford campus in 2018 when he was reportedly acting as front man to give Antifa access to the campus.

But he doesn’t want the Hoover Institution on campus.

Beinin is a Middle East history professor who is another garden variety academic hater of Israel. In this article from Algemeiner (which describes him as a Maoist), we can perhaps understand why he is  so opposed to the Hoover Institution. After all, it was founded as a voice against Communism. In addition, he is part of the virtual academic army that always leaps to the defense of whoever claims their right to say whatever they want about Israel is being infringed. That includes people like Rutgers professor Jasbir Puar, who, in 2016, told a Vassar audience that Israel was in the organ-harvesting business.

But he doesn’t want the Hoover Institution on campus.

I know nothing about the other 98 learned professors who have added their names to the aforementioned letter. I would bet an in-depth search would find similar traits among many of them as well as with Palumbo-Liu and Beinen. At any rate, based on what I know about the above two professors, I find it ironic that they would object to the Hoover Institution because they are so “one-sidedly conservative” in their views, when they themselves complain that they themselves are victims of being silenced for their own views.

The word I believe is hypocrisy.

Bates College Goes Bates---- Over Profile of College Republican

Bates College in winter-Behold the snowflakes

The little rascals at Bates College in Maine have gone Bates---- over a profile of a College Republican student that was posted on the school's Instagram page. The student was one of several whose profiles were posted.

The College Fix has the story as well as a link to the student newspaper's long-winded article on the issue.

As I often do, I have submitted a comment to the reader thread. Whether it will be published is anybody's guess. Obviously, the whole episode is a joke and another in the never-ending list of examples of just how degenerated our colleges have become. And as is always the case, you have a weak-kneed president who bows and scrapes in apologizing to the snowflakes.
