*Update: October 17, 2023. The terror suspect was located by police sometime later and shot to death. His name is Abdesalem Lassoued (45), a Tunisian in the country illegally. The Italian daily, Corriere della Sera, is reporting that he arrived at Lampedusa in 2011 and was later expelled from Sweden.

It has happened yet again. In Brussels, three Swedish nationals, apparently attending a soccer match between Belgium and Sweden, have been shot. Two are dead and one is wounded. The suspect is believed to be a Tunisian nation, born in 1978, who claims to be a member of the Islamic State. It is assumed he chose Swedes as his victims due to the ongoing controversy over Koran book burnings in Sweden.

The suspect is still on the loose but is apparently identified.

The below article from the French-language Belgian daily, La Libre, is translated by Fousesquawk.

On Monday, at about 19:30, an individual dressed in a fluorescent vest, fired an assault weapon on Swedish fans present in Brussels for this evening's Euro 24 elimination match between Belgium and Sweden. The assailant, who arrived at Neuvieme de Ligne Blvd. and Sainctelette on a scooter, killed two persons (who are reportedly of Swedish nationality) and wounded others.

Before committing the act, the armed individual posted a video on social media in which he explained his motives. He claims to be a member of the Islamic State and claims to have killed three persons.

According to our information, the suspect is a Tunisian, whose initials are L.A., born 1 September 1978. He requested asylum in 2019.

His motive appears to be revenge, possibly after copies of the Koran that were burned and/or trampled these past weeks in Sweden. The nation notably permitted a demonstration in which the organizers wanted the sacred book of the Muslims to be banned in Sweden, which did not help to improve relations between the European country and the Middle East.

The perpetrator is still on the run at the time of this report.
