Hatem Bazian and friends
UC Berkeley professor Hatem Bazian is back in the news again, and as usual, it all centers around his history of anti-Semitic statements. The Palestinian-born activist masquerading as an academic was scheduled to speak at St Mary's College in Moraga, California. The topic had something to do with how white people in America can fight Islamophobia as we prepared to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9-11. What chutzpah!
Now, St Mary's has decided to "postpone" the event, which was being sponsored by the Center for Women and Gender Equity (no surprise here) and the Muslim Studies Association (no surprise here either). Apparently, neither group was bothered in the least by Bazian's long anti-Semitic history since washing up on our shores as a student at San Francisco State University.
What I find surprising is that a supposedly Christian learning institution would invite a known Islamist and anti-Semite to speak in the first place. They cannot plead ignorance. Do they have to wait until some group publicly points out Bazian's record to them?
Now they have postponed the event as they wring their hands and figure out how to proceed without offending anybody. The quoted statements of the university illustrate how weak-kneed these people are to begin with.
