Recently, we posted a report about the construction of a mega-mosque in Strasbourg, France. In addition to funding from Turkey and Qatar, the city of Strasbourg, led by the Green Party, is also providing public funds. Since Strasbourg is the seat of the European Parliament, the symbolism of having this huge mega-mosque could not be greater.
Italian Member of the European Parliament, Silvia Sardone, a member of the center-right Lega Party in Italy (Milan), is a strong critic of this project and has made a video clip in front of the structure under construction.
Any project funded by the governments of Turkey and Qatar must be viewed with suspicion, and this is no exception. Qatar is a supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood while Turkey, under Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has done nothing but stir up a radical form of Islam among the Turkish diaspora in Western Europe. To add insult to injury, the residents of Strasbourg also have to chip in to help build this mosque. Hopefully, it will not turn out to be a center of hate and radicalism, but with Qatar and Turkey behind it, I am skeptical.
