My friends at the Amcha Initiative, an organization founded to combat campus anti-Semitism, have joined 90 organizations in writing to California Governor Gavin Newsom urging him to veto an assembly bill (AB 1460) that would set guidelines for ethnic studies in the state. Amcha points out that a major aspect of the bill includes teaching students in California that Israel is suppressing Palestinians. Of course, this is a major issue on so many college campuses. Aside from the one-sided advocacy involved, the end result is increased anti-Semitism on campuses. In fact, our universities are the focal point for Jew hatred in America. And from the campuses, it is spreading.
Below I am cross-posting Amcha's latest report. There is also a link to the joint letter to Governor Newsom. Also note that the California State University system has proposed a requirement more favorable to the Amcha Initiative et al. The below link also has a link to a petition letter to the governor in favor of the CSU idea.

It is noteworthy that Newsom already rejected a very similar proposal. He should, therefore, reject AB 1460 as well.
I am a critic of ethnic studies in general because they overwhelmingly tend to be ethnocentric in themselves and are divisive. Certainly, the history of different ethnic groups in America should be taught-including things like slavery, segregation and discrimination. Unfortunately, those are pretty much the themes of these departments. In today's climate, I would also ask why Jews are excluded from the proposal. In addition, I ask-what is the purpose of making a Middle East conflict such an important part of American ethnic studies?
