If you are planning that next African vacation, you'd better read this before you choose your country of preference. Mauritania is the last bastion of slavery. Oh, it's technically true that the country abolished the institution in 1981, but it still exists, and nobody is being punished for its practice.
Not surprisingly, Mauritania is also a Muslim country. In fact, one of its citizens is now facing the death penalty for posting something on Facebook that was critical of the Prophet Mohammad.
