The above video (in French) depicts a gang of refugees/migrants accosting a group of French men. One of the gang is armed with a baseball bat. However, one of the Frenchmen has a gun. Watch how the armed Frenchman is able to ward off what could have been a deadly attack.

I don't know what French gun laws are like, but I think it is safe to say they are much stricter than ours. This video is highly instructive for the US as well as France. This is a case of ordinary citizens being able to protect themselves from violent criminals.
Had this incident occurred in the US, the citizen would have been justified in drawing that weapon as the thug with the baseball bat came closer. Had he raised the bat and came within striking distance, shooting would have been justified-at least under US laws. States have different laws, but the threat to human life would have been pretty clear.
